It’s hard to tell if they’re playing tag,
or thrusting nectar-drunk love at each other—
mid-June attempts at getting it.
Maybe they’re fighting over first flowers—
legs twitching in hypoglycemic half-paralysis,
like the buzz of waking mid-vacation,
still dazed, muscles aching, but that stinger,
coiled stiff for the week.
Their terror-tails would end me,
or at least suspend me, breath held between
here and wherever histamine takes it.
I appreciate the bees, I really do,
their work, their faith in growing things.
But the anaphylactic risk of their existence
in relation to mine turns close proximity
into a kill-or-die situation:
all stabs and fury, and neither of us
wanting it to end that way.

Folks of the suburbs sting thy heart
Tongues of mosquitos suck thy soul
Stories leak no finish nor start
The histamine I can’t control
Spreads out from cranium to my toe.
All lips kiss thy cheek for one goal.
Pictures they sow just come and go
If I did not give two sharp pins
Yet, I do. Must go with the flow
Threw all their sins into the bins
Kicked a sly snitch right in the ditch
Yet he’s still a flashback that spins
Hence, whether I’d think of the pitch
Would always be an unscratched itch.

There was a German Shepherd named George
Who - on only the best would gorge
If you offered him ground beef or fish
He would growl and cover his dish
He’d howl with a histamine headache
If fed anything less than steak.

>center>NO HARMFUL WILDLIFE
A spell in the country would do you good,
Said Doctor Rogers MB sternly,
Wagging a finger to emphasise the point.
Get away from the diesel fumes
And millions spreading germs.
Trust me, I’m a doctor.
I trusted him, poor fool,
Packed a bag and booked on-line
At a farmhouse advertising,
“Peaceful weekend breaks”
On Saturday, with sturdy boots and a picnic
And my guide to flora a fauna,
(No harmful wildlife in the area)
I roamed the tranquil countryside.
In the midst of a field of sweet clover,
A bee, taking exception to my sturdy boots,
Deposited its sting.
First aid kit devoid of anti-histamine.
I sat on a hillock to partake of lunch.
The ants in the hill were red ones
No harmful wildlife in the area?
Tell that to the bull in the next field.
Who also took exception
And to the rabbits whose burrow I tripped in
While trying to escape.
Tell it to the mosquitoes,
Who seemed to like me.
On Sunday I limped home a day early.
Thank you Doctor Rogers MB.

Allergy Poem
Pollen, dog hair, mold and dust.
Make my sinus raise a fuss.
Headaches, itchy eyes, histamine.
Many a season I have seen.
Cough drops, tissues, little red pills;
Drug store prescriptions, druggist fills.
Hot tea, lemon juice, local honey;
I have spent a lot of money.
Allergies can drive you wild.
I've had them since I was a child.
Someday I'll walk through Heavens door.
Then I won't have allergies anymore.

The first among to wake up in the Spring
The award winner, comes with a sting
Stinging Nettle pubescent and green
Cannot touch the super herbal queen
Urtica dioica is the botanic name
Dioica is the one with European fame
Tropical cousins are all not the same
Strong and sharp, they can make you lame
Each sting is a delicate hollow hair
Stiffened with a tip of silica ware
Swollen base that stores the venom with care
Shoots its payload, touch, if you dare
Transmitters are same as yours and mine
Acytylcholine , serotonin and histamine
If stung by nettles, remedy is close at hand
Do not go far, Dock is where you stand
