Hick Poems

Premium MemberYes I am a Hick from a Hick Town

Yes, I am a hick from a hick town
where people look out for each other.

a town where people chip in money
for baby showers, weddings, funerals or a kid who needs shoes

a hick town where everyone knows everybody else’s story
where we are not afraid to eat a stranger’s baked goods
or give a hitchhiker a ride

we still have quilting bees and autumn festivals
I am from a hick town where people raise money to send a teen to England

We gather with our tractors and combines to help a farmer who is laid up
for if he does not get his crop in, he is financially sunk

Yes, I am a hick from a hick town
where people look out for each other
and proud of it

Premium MemberIn a Hick Town

In a hick town
You learn to be nice to everyone
Because most people are your cousins

In a hick town
You stop and help your neighbors
Because it is kind and words travel fast

In a hick town
You share your time, food and money
Because everyone knows you and they talk

Premium Membercall me crazy country hick

Call me hayseed, bumpkin, hillbilly, or crazy hick
Fresh inspiring country air surrounds me thick
I could run outside naked if I wanted
I live where deer and wild turkey are hunted

Wild boars wander up to my yard to root
My garden has veggies, my trees bear fruit
The sun I see is better than most ever find
Taking me away from the country would be unkind

Premium MemberHick town Competition

I come from a hick town
we stare at the woman
competition on

A town of five thousand when I was a child
the shoe factory pulled out
so make that twenty-five hundred.

that’s nothing Gladys says
we kids rode cows to school through the field
no paved roads
everyone had corn fields, my town was twelve hundred.

twelve hundred! That is a metropolitan center!
My town had forty-two houses
We were all related; only two hundred and forty-six of us
in 1971.

How many kids were in your graduating class?
This query is from Lizzie, she is joining the fray.
“Twenty-one,” the woman said proudly.
“That’s huge!” Lizzie informed her.
“There were eight in my class; six boys and two girls.”

rural America
one hick town socialite to another
bragging rights for one
as soon as we crown the winner

Come quick. I’ve a limerick ‘bout a hick
Christened Billy Bop Be-bop; now his dick
     It was sort of gigantic
     Daisy thought it romantic ~
Though one look at it and Daisy got sick

Old Hick Who Would Pick

An Old Hick Who Would Pick

Even though I have been an old hick,
Must be sure music did carefully pick;
Preferred;
Endured;
And to your soul the song would stick.
