Like herbicides and pesticides
and other chemical deterrents advertized
to keep certain foods looking perfect
and free of any blemish or defect
will in time (like any other crime)
increase the grower’s wealth
but decrease the consumer’s health.
The result? World-wide suicides offering
the only sane alternative to suffering.

Oh you stalk of corn,
How withered you look now,
Stripped of honour and full of scorn
Oh you stalk!, now you bow,
you have remained standing only
as a provender for stalls and fodder
Once in full bloom, you were the
cynosure of the farmer
Paying homage to you regularly
giving you largesse
of herbicides' and fertilizers'
The delight of greenery, the envy of
weeds, the lusting of goats and sheep.
The stalk of corn of yore days.
Your peak outlast, your decline at last
Your grains harvested, gladdens the heart
of many wearied;
In dough's of pies, in puddings and porridge's.
The pangs of hunger you salvaged for man
and for beasts
Your seeds await your demise oh stalk
of corn,
To take your place in the vicious cycle
of life by the farmer
Oh corn stalk, you are bowed and
withered waiting for the set time.
Corn stalk, I salute you, take a bow
for now.
You have fulfilled purpose and destiny.

I came upon a shimmering pond
And cast my line in deep
Set me down on the dock nearby
And dangled my aching feet
My mind goes back to earlier days
When in smaller ponds this boy did play
Where polliwogs were there to be caught
Before herbicides and pesticides wiped them all away
Now frogs no longer hop about for a determined boy to chase
Times when we strolled down quiet tree lined country lanes
Before streets with traffic lights came and took their place
A time when neighbors helped neighbors and folks had time to chat
Sunday dinner was a family affair with aunts, uncles and cousins there
A time when a gentleman met a lady he always tipped his hat
But that was then and times do change and I guess that’s alright
But one thing has not changed nary a bit
I still have not gotten a single bite.

Pink Slime, Pesticides
And chicken thighs bigger than my thighs
And we wonder why there is an increase
in learning disabilities among children today
I say it’s because the process, that the food is processed and grown and raised, is
compromised by demand, money, greed or fame.
I do understand that demand is high
so we have to do somethin’
So to compete, we inject hormones into the very animal or plant that is sold for consumption
So now we eat these hormones and our bodies are stressed because of the added pesticides and herbicides and other sh#! that’s hard to digest
I mean what’s really the cause?
There’s more kids with disabilities today than there ever was
I say it’s because like the story is told in the verses, that knowledge is increasing in man and the result is not what He purposed.
Pink Slime and Pesticides..We’re eating stuff that’s been chemically grown inside…and chickens bigger than my thighs

Tell them oh! sun
Why your rays fall harsh
Making global warming.
Tell them of desertification
Melting of the arctic
They know not my language.
Ask them why the green gas
Why industrial smoke ?
Speak oh! sun.
Let us all learn
Complain oh! sun
Someone must listen.
Speak oh! rain
Tell them why you flood
And why you loose your pattern.
Tell them why you fail to fall
Making drought, famine
You have your voice.
Shout oh! rivers
Tell them why you dry
Why you change color.
Complain about industrial dumping
About deforestation
Something must change.
Wind speak up
Stand up and be counted.......
Tell them why the hurricanes
Cyclones and tempests
Why you breeze less no more
You have a voice of your own.
Tell them oh! soil
Why you loose fertility
I am sure it is not age.
Complain about the farming methods
The chemicals
Herbicides and pesticides.
Rise oh! waters
The lakes, seas and oceans
Why you anger
Giving us fish no more
Making angry waves and tides
They are responsible.
Stand oh! air
Say why you are so stuffy
Talk about pollution
Speak for the trees
Arise and stand
In the wind talk to them.

I don’t want Swine flu
So no more pork for me
I don’t want Bird flu
So no chicken fricassee
I don’t want mad cow disease
So no more Beef for me
I don’t want Salmonella
So no dippy eggs for tea
With mercury in the water
I will no longer eat fish
There is pollution in the air
So I’ll eat no bird related dish
I cannot eat any type of fruit
Because of insecticides
And all vegetables are out
Because of the herbicides
So I am at a loss now
To know what I can eat
There is of course chocolate
But then what would be my treat?
