Hardheaded Or Headstrong

Mom often said Tommy, “you’re too hardheaded”,
I suppose I wasn’t sure just what those words meant.
From childhood these words were deeply embedded,
but I must have did things with no thought to relent.
Personality changes that came, didn’t take long,
As I grew into my twenties I always had my say.
So I continued being, a young man, headstrong,
many times it became, “my way or the highway”.
I took great pride in saying what others did refuse,
always being truthful and without hurtful intent.
I’ve never been reluctant in expressing personal views,
sometimes I’ve just sought an opportunity to vent.
Then came a day, with much of life being spent,
and I faced issues that I couldn’t handle alone.
Seeing Jesus’ face I knew I needed to repent,
so I made the decision that for my life I’d atone.
Born Again Date
August 27th 1968
You cover me with a cluster of absurd words
that stir and plunder like tornado dust
on an adamant mission of one-eyed destruction.
Even through the pile of vile gust, I must
respect your inherent right to be wrong.
You vomit a comet of obstinate lies,
criticizing all that is wise and good,
all that stood in your raging, profane way.
All the might of right won't fix your folly,
only antagonize, like a flying dart,
an unrepentant, prideful heart.
Fencing replies aside, defenses shoved away,
with a quieted spirit, in merciful song,
for the headstrong and wrong, I pray.

Hearts blindly lead the willing

she gave me her headstrong face
left me feelin outa place
left me feelin like i had lost the space cadet race
then she pulled off her designer wares an i knew it wasn't the case
her mind is a frown
like its pervaded by a sad clown
like she is plundered holy ground
she just sits there open eyed without a sound
she gave me her headstrong face
but i just could not replace the shattered mind
no matter how unkind
fathead weak in her thoughts
ill at ease to where i had been brought
i just stood there mumbling
while her fingers did some bumbling
big wet smile on her face
left me feelin outa place
like i really did loose the space cadet race
kissing her headstrong face
“NO! I WON’T”
“YOU CAN’T MAKE ME!”
Watch as I change your “do” to a “don’t”
How bad can the punishment be?
No video games?
So what!
No treat tonight?
Is that all you got?
You are the worst mom in the world!
The truth hurts, I know.
Just listen as my insults continue to unfurl.
I hate you, from your head to your toes!
I’m not holding back any blows.
I’ll show you that I can get my way.
No matter how much you oppose.
I’m the T-Rex and you’re my prey.
Don’t walk away from this fight.
I’m not done telling you how wrong you are.
And how I am so right.
Don’t try to tell me I’ve gone too far.
This is serious business.
You can’t possibly expect this of me.
My brother is my witness.
Finish all of my peas?
You know, I can’t eat anything green!
Unless, it’s mint chocolate-chip ice cream.
