NOSTALGIA FOR SCOTLAND.
Scotland - wet summer afternoon:
Marketplace cats hide under wind-whipped stalls.
No weather difference from November to June :
The marketeers pull tight their shawls.
Gritting their teeth against the gale,
German linguistics students are full of praise
For the local Gaelic dialect and its frail
Evolution into some modern Glaswegian phrase.
As the sea breeze lashes the land’s back,
Ohio engineers from the “Local 39” crowd
Clutch their plaid kilt and yellow tour anorak :
Proper uniform for grandpa’s old country proud,
Note Local 39 refers to a tour bus run by
“IBEW Ohio Local 39” a local branch of a US engineering workers union.

Lost in thought between the Scottish mountain
where the cloud impregnates the mist
and sun rests weary hand
and would a Glaswegian superhero
be called Quality Man

Mike is a Glaswegian who trains with the Wildcats,
The wheelchair rugby team who like taking centre,
He was born on the 13th December 1982, the stats,
But had a diving accident in 2000 which did batter.
He was studying at college in health and fitness,
But during his rehab he was introduced to rugby,
The GB Development squad took him on, address,
Until in 2006 he was selected for the elite, as lucky.
The GB team took silver, 2011, at the Europeans,
And in London they came 5th to boast the place,
He became captain of the British team, had ions,
And at the Euros 2015 won gold, Rio to embrace.

JIM
Gigging for free, for fun, our choice -
Fur coat, waistcoat, beads:
He sang of Prince Charlie, glens, hero’s deeds.
Scruffy blue jeans, timbre in his voice.
Fridays at the folkmusic club, jamming.
His place one night funniest thing ever heard -
His and his wife’s Glaswegian accent -
But we sang and played till drink was spent
And I couldn’t understand a word.
I liked his singing, they liked my playing.
Met him in Bishopsgate, London one day, said hi -
Was amazed - he was something in a merchant bank,
With camel-hair topcoat and cigar in hand, real swank,
With other banker types - Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Boy, that Jim could sing.

I see my flag unfurl
In the cold North wind it curls
Against the evening backdrop of the Edinburgh sky
So with the skirl of pipes
And the rhythmic beat of drum
Down the Royal mile the loyal Scotsman come
So now we have independence
At dear long last were free
But that don't wash away centuries of tyranny
So as we march on too the future
Lion rampant flying high
Looking back all i see is the dark glaswegian sky
So now the burden lifted
Alba free at last
Now as proud Scotsmen lets forgive the sins of the past
