Always walk on the sunny side of the street
where the grass is always greener
my advice... give a wide berth to the shady side
(unlike Little Red riding the 'hood)
as over there the streets are meaner
better yet focus on the good
where life is pleasantly serener
maintain a positive outlook
and keep a cheerful demeanour
please don't be annoyed vex or hex yourself
(so as to avoid a scandal)
like the wicked old witch on her broom
who when angry flew off the handle
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK
I chose a book from the library,
the cover so appealing to me,
being a popular author,
on a best-seller's list was he.
The New York Times gave praise,
'A heart gripping thriller' they said,
and also a real page-turner,
I started to read it in bed.
Reading the first two chapters
it was never my kind of book.
So full of filthy language,
I was betrayed by the cover's look.
Don't judge a book by its cover,
this applies to humans as well.
The outside may not be attractive,
it's the contents inside that dwell.
Don't judge a book by its cover,
if only the well groomed to greet.
Whereas the ragged or homeless,
we give a wide berth on the street.
Don't judge a book by its cover
you may be deceived by it's looks.
People have different life stories,
so various, just as the books.
Don't judge a book by its cover
until some chapters you read.
Snap judgements are too hasty,
discernment is what we all need.

To Be Fancy Free
At evening tide I would glance at the moon
And conjure up thoughts quixotic and soon
I’ll strip from my mien and live on the edge
Flee from the world of comittment and pledge
A maiden to find a deluge of sin
My religious bonds I’ll have to rescind
To travel the globe but give a wide berth
and allow myself my short sprint on earth
My fancy free heart I will not accept
To be liable to feel guilt or fault or blame
Until that time comes I’ll be just the same
