Unbearable

A giant panda eats leaves and shoots,
several handlers and keepers
fall to a spray of AK-47 bullets.

"Why?"
moans an elderly Chinese lady,
blood oozing from her torn body -
she had nursed him from a cub.

In a less than perfect Mandarin,
the animal replied:

"Madam, humans do not understand
how to bear an unbearable love.

Being insufferably cute
the matter has always been
a black and white issue for us.

We love to shoots first,
then we leaves."

Premium MemberOne More, One Less

The earth is big and the earth is old.
There are so many things
in vast creation to behold
that time and nature bring.

One more, one less, it matters not,
for those who earth, inhabit -
one less tasty sunburnt apricot,
another tawny rabbit.

Yet, some species are in short supply -
indeed they are at risk.
It would be a tragedy if one should die
beneath our yellow disk.

There's the giant panda and the rhino,
and let's not forget
white polar bears in vanishing snow -
and the Chinese egret.

In the ocean, there's the humongous blue whale,
whose sonic vibrations
go up and down the frequency scale -
remarkable vocalizations.

But there's such an abundance of men,
I think it's safe to say,
my presence makes no difference, then -
today, tomorrow, yesterday.

Premium MemberTrying Not To Eat Bamboo Borers

Anji County of China is the town of bamboo
Visitors arrive in cars, more than a few.
Cooks could add some stems to their tasty stew
But giant panda consumes most shoots and stems of bamboo

Bamboo borers are a delicacy, tasty and sweet
Caterpillar to you, but don’t try to count his feet
We found six in the canebrakes yesterday said the cook.
It is best to consume this dish without a real close look.

Japanese giant timber bamboos grow faster than these
One grew forty-seven inches in twenty-four hours. Oh, please!
Bamboo paintings and woodworking is a pleasure to see.
Please look away from the table for a second; stop looking at me.

Premium MemberRed Panda and Giant Panda

Red Panda aka Foxfire got lost when her plane fell into the China Sea.
She drifted ashore, and was discovered by a giant black and white he.
What are you? The monster asked, fearing she was an alien creature.
A bit afraid of her eighteen inch long tail, her most prominent feature.

I am a panda, she said, but she looked more like a skunk or raccoon.
The giant panda from China began laughing, his chuckles went to the moon.
You certainly are not! He said. You do not look a thing like my wife or me.
He was as amused as a panda whose dinner was interrupted could be.

I am an Eastern Himalayan panda, she told him; but I fell out of that plane.
Do you have some tasty leaves or perhaps a tiny bit of sugar cane?
The fluffy Giant Panda puffed up his black and white fur.
“Come along, you hungry thing,” he told her “I have the cure.”

They ate bamboo for about twelve hours, before she said her name was Niece
Here is a thought, Giant told her “In China, my kind is the symbol of peace
“You are an endangered species,” Niece said, but not in a mean kind of way.
They became the best of friends then, and began to eat together every day.

Premium MemberNarwhal In the Oval Office

A narwhal frolicked in the oval office
and stirred the status quo
they tried to remove his potent tusk
but they wound up eating crow-
Much to their great dismay
babies were a little safer
the economy was aurora hot.
He thickened up the thin blue line
and weaved a welcome mat for God-
He poked the giant panda in the snout
plugged a hole in our leaky bank account.

Come 2020-it'll be tough to ride a braying donkey...
when we've been purring along in a Maserati

Premium MemberGentle Spirit

You came when I needed an etheric friend,
though I never knew you in life.

An angelic guardian I see in dreams.
You died just before I was born yet,
it feels like we've spent a lifetime together.

Protectorate, eternal spirit, arriving when needed;
an infinite connection.

Cartoonist that you are;
in childhood, I knew you as a giant panda bear,
my invisible playmate after grandma died.

You understood just what my
child-mind needed to heal.

Others only labeled me a,
“weird child”.
You inspired me and gave me hope.

To you I attribute my imagination and creativity;
from you I inherited my love of the arts.

Now, astral visits give birth to fresh ideas.
Being an adult should never be boring,
grownup or set stagnant.

If “faith is believing”, then I am rich.
I believe in spirit and soul.

Yes, you came when I needed a friend
and now I believe I can truly be me;
without the condemnation and judgments of others.

You came and you gave me…
back to me.

Premium MemberOut On the Veranda

A lap full of warm animals
Out sitting on the veranda
Relaxing time my rationale
A lap full of warm animals
At least I have their approval
And glad it's not a Giant Panda
A lap full of warm animals
Out sitting on the veranda

One cat clawing and one dog washing
the cat..

Someone has to prepare lunch now...

Giant Pandas

Giant pandas live in China.
They can swim and climb trees, too.
They're black and white and furry
And they love to eat bamboo!

Bonus activity: Print out a giant panda coloring sheet for each child (there are a few
to choose from on animalstown.com) and have him or her color it.

The Giant

They call me a giant I don't know why
In this world I feel so small
For if they keep taking all I have
Then I'm really no giant at all

My home is in China but not for long
For my family will soon disappear
We're only a couple of thousand strong
But we get fewer every year

We eat bamboo, it's what we live for
It's also what makes us live
You're gonna miss us when we're gone
And the joy we could have give

Some people even say that I'm a bear
But I'm a species all my own
With five fingers and even a thumb
Something most has never known

They call me The Giant Panda
Though my black and white is distinct
An endangered species that needs your help
Before I become extinct
