The British royal family is front and center this weekend. How unusual is that?
The empire may be gone, but it’s time to recall its ghost, dust it off and invoke the ancient spell of monarchy.
A coronation, The original dog & pony show - God’s kingly sinecure. I can’t even remember the last one.
You have to know who your great, great, great, grandfather was to be nobility-class smug or to don those getups, with medals that would have made Caesar blush and Attila laugh.
The cast is familiar, if somewhat balding, The too-old king, his - whatever -wife.
I can’t help mourning Diana. Accident, treachery or karma, grown men cried at her passing, Shakespeare’s darkened heavens blazed in sorrow and, eventually, even the gray queen bowed her head.
There’s no more honor, in 2023, and if there’s any glory, its light has grown as dim as the glitter of gold.
The fact that the royals are better than us, is axiomatic. Not morally superior, of course. That’s the Pope’s job. The royals are like Britain’s Mickey Mouse, and any civilized man, who’d strike at that, would have to be a fool.

Do you feel it too
You know, the graying of Halloween
For several decades it was all the rage
for Sonny-and-Cher-like adults, whatever their age
Red-light district numbers sold like hotcakes
along with ghoulish getups for opulent jakes
Something happened though, can't put my finger on it
maybe it started with Covid, like EVERYTHING else did
as the government reminds us...
Do you feel it too
Halloween's lost her old zipperoo
Maybe the air is out of the balloon

Halloween means goblins and nightmare dreams
mixed with candies, chuckles, and distant screams.
And costumed kids; chanting 'trick-or-treat,'
working through the neighborhood, street by street.
Besides Christmas, it's the best time of year
a festival of fantasy and fear.
Ghoulish getups attract both young and old:
for a treasure in treats, rewards the bold.
When fairies and witches knock late at night,
offer candy, if they give you a fright.
Teenage tricksters carry a bar of soap
to scribble on windows, acting so dope.
The true monsters emerge after midnight
stalking the shadows while avoiding the light.
Zombies and vampires emerge from their graves:
drawn to the brains and blood of fools and knaves.
Beware of demons the Devil lets loose:
should they approach you, you'd better vamoose.
Halloween lets evil spirits roam free
and they're scarier than they ought to be.

as the kids begin to come out
again
to declare the violation of their innocence to the world
so that finally these pompous pedophiliac pederasts
can be dragged out of their lairs in order to face the world for
what they are
(not what they claim to be)---
the coaches twitch like the catholic clergy,
presently pissing their practice pants &
“holy” getups
in hopes that they will not be the next on the
chopping block---
meanwhile,
another collective gasp is heard by those who never thought for a minute that such
hostile homophobia
which comes hand in hand within the realm of
organized sports & organized religion
could possibly be a cover-up
for what was really brewing
just beneath the surface---
one has to wonder just how many
freudian slips it takes
to get to the center of a
child molester.
