Warriors

Mothers don't let your children
grow up to be soldiers
and march off to battle
without remorse or of course
a thought of regret
to get in the way
boys playing follow the leader
'We're only following orders'
the young may say
yet greed and stupidity
is the name of the game
either for land or in God's name
history has taught nothing
on judging it seems
and trudging behind the herd
in a word
it's 'insane'
but what if the Generals held a war
and on the day
nobody came

Forced Retirement of Some African Military Generals After the Coup of Gabon Yesterday

some African presidents forced the retirement
of some military generals and others removed them
 from some key posts  yesterday
After the coup d'état of Gabon.
Some African presidents
who think to own their countries
and stayed on power for decades
now they have much fear to lose powers
 like Ali Bongo and others.
This strategy  won't help them as the young leaders
who are majority in the army many African counties
 need change of some regimes.
It is difficult to stop those coup d'états
As the African youths
understand what they are doing.
It is called "no retreat, no surrender operation."

The Warring Generals of Sudan

The warring Generals of Sudan

Yesterday, they were friends,
Sharing the cake of power together.
“This kind of friendship never ends”
One corpse did whisper.
Today they fight over the cake of power.
Where has their love gone this hour?
Two guns lock horns,
And civilians suffer.
Our piece of peace has torn.
Guns ring the bell
Of peace. We march to hell.
Generals,
Of wars.
Their murals,
Peacefully painted on the walls
Of wars.

Collateral Damage Is Not Only For Generals To Have Sleepless Nights Over

I used to think collateral damage was something,
Only Generals and politicians had to worry about.
How wrong I was.
No matter whether the decisions we all take are good or bad,
Others mostly bare the consequences.
And there is no use denying that fact.

Parents will have sleepless nights over the decisions they make,
Concerning their children.
Doctors will have sleepless nights over the decisions they make,
Concerning their patients.
Lawyers will have sleepless nights over the decisions they make,
Concerning their patients.
Friends will have sleepless nights over the decisions they make,
Concerning each other.

There seems to be nowhere to hide when it comes to the use,
Of collateral damage and sleepless nights.
So, maybe we should not hide from it,
Opting instead, to take those hard decisions,
Without fear or favor,
Because not taking them will not help us sleep any better,
And leaving them up to the generals and politicians,
May only up the consequences for us all.

The Silver-Haired Generals

Silver-haired generals
gather to tell us why;
yet they skip questions – salute
into the TV camera.

Mother askes:
“Who are these silver-haired gentlemen
wearing a uniform similar to your brothers?

“They are the Country Mom”, I say,
they are the men that appropriate
the exact number of body bags
so that there is never any waste,
for that would be a waste wouldn’t it mom”?

Mother nods then shakes her head,
as if trying to understand.

The Generals

The Generals

You have seen them
nodding benevolently like
plump German butchers in small
shoppes, carelessly stripping pink
flesh from the bones of sheep.

They smile, a polite bow,
courteous generals in a civilized
war of rules, displaying their
purple hearts, adorned with the parsley
slogans of God and country.

Have you noticed that they
keep the faces of the butchered
ones covered up with star spangled
sheets, while mad bands play their
songs of brave innocence?

Perhaps so we will not see their
eyes staring back at us, or hear
their cries in the chill dawn, or
worse still, that we know
whose children they are.

Mountains and Generals

Mountains and Generals

What scared me most as a child were tall mountains dark silent sometimes
white topped and often wearing a crown of a murderous miasma of gloom.
Once my ship docked in a constricted fjord, a smelting plant, a few houses
and a restaurant surrounded by Somme like nakedness. I tried to close
the curtains but they wouldn’t let me insisted on keeping what
they called summer evening light as long as possible. I had reindeer steak
down in the cellar served with moss and boiled potatoes and brown gravy –
in Norway you get thick dark gravy with everything- Going back onboard
I felt the mountains naked, life hating presence like crazy generals ordering
men to attack over open terrain killing a million young men in the process.
Fortified with aquavit I just made it back onboard, the sea was flat and calm.
And I heard General Haig’s raised, voice “let us do this once more this time
it may just work “Should I ever come across his statue, I’m sure there is one
in a town, the great man sitting on a horse looking heroic, I will without delay
piss on his statue. and get free from my fear of tall mountains.

Five Star Generals

I done went Rawr
inside of my car
possesing the skills
that could make me a star

as soon as I be
get down on one knee
tebowing forgive my sins
and let me walk free

chained to this place
like I have no choice
I still sing, inside of me
like I have no voice

just want to be heard
hang on to my word
as if wise, under disguise
as a mocking bird
mocking my moves
whatever I do
victims of hate, can you relate
like I do to you

Given to temptation
all my lost relations
brother, be warned
see hate and feel scorned
and when its all over
look over your shoulder
just as I was reborn
to sit in the rhyme of a nursery
on this anniversary
of an important biological event
Mastery.

i grab my sword and i start walking, the war is now so lets stop talking. with the
bible as our sword a spirit as our shield my friends and i fight for the field.we push
them back to the forest, a sneak attack comes and takes a big portion.we fall back
to the field to get more ground, then call the calvary and tare them down.

The Third World War: My Generals

My soldiers and
Worse!
My Generals
Failed to understand the kind of battlefield
They are dealing with.
They failed to understand
The difference between
Your skin,
Your Lips,
And
Your eyelashes.
