Fads Poems

Premium MemberConfirmation Bias

They died in silence, but they died
They cried in silence, but they cried
They shrieked they shouted, who knew?
You ask why know, what could you do?

But you focus on some trendy cause
A life under a lamppost, to peer applause
Outside the light, the monsters roam
I don't see you straying out of the dome.

You live in a bubble, a bubble others made
Its a shallow pond in which you wade
confirmation bias, and a wrong path
Few people leave it, few do the math.

One day the fists will rattle your door,
You'll plead for reason, you'll ask "what for?"
So, investigate now, let the circle extend
When the mob refocuses, every man needs a friend.

I wrote this poem, after I read Raymond Ibrahim
He talked of places where some lose, some win
Lots of conflict of which I knew zero
I can't really help, but he's a hero.

Premium MemberDiet Fads

    Bowl of oatmeal
      squirt of honey
      spoon of jelly
         fills the belly

    Nothing fancy
    Just the basics
    Diet fads ~
         It will fix

Fads and Fashions

Fads, fashions’ step brother, an also-ran,
Surviving on: if she can me too can,
Take padded pants that lend manhood a spell,
Lifting of butts to lift sagging morale,
Be it man or woman, panty or pant,
See-through is fine, fine a shrunken garment,
She remains all obsessed with breasts and butts,
As he with body-hugging bravo guts!
If God’s failed to bestow, worry no more,
There are doctors and designers galore,
Fashions’ sole job seems to be to distract
From what lacks, say between the two ears’ tract,
Some may even eat boots were it a fad,
And wear a spade on neck as macho aid!

Premium MemberFads Come and Fads Go

Fads come and fads go
Is this pronoun thing a ho ho ho?
I am sure for some it is important and real.
Others jump on, wanting more zip and zeal.

Tik Tok and U-tube, two of today’s norms
Taking new directions, creating new forms
Will they both be passé’ in the thirties?
Names going back to Homers and Gerties?

Database and web were unknown in the eighties.
Google was not a word known to us natives.
Word processors barely peeking out.
LOL and MMAT make me want to shout!

The first computers took an entire room.
No one fathomed owning one.
Now we all talk away on Zoom.
High tech craziness. Oh what fun!

Things are moving at mega-super-speed.
People like Putin filled with incredible greed.
Sex traffickers are real and true.
I liked the old ways. How about you?

The Fads Will Change Tomorrow

The Fads Will Change Tomorrow

Can’t offer you an open concept floorplan,
Granite counter tops or an island;
My old crown molding is dusty,
And shag carpet smells a bit musty.

You don’t want my popcorn ceilings,
Or one bath with wallpaper fish;
Still, I’d love to make a date with you.
You look like my kind of dish.

Won’t make you clean that open concept,
Or put up with cracked mottled tops,
I’ll hire a prof fixer upper,
If I don’t you can call the cops.

For what will tomorrow bring, huh?
Will sand floors come back in style?
Will they stuff cement between oak beams;
And cook popcorn on the fire for a while?

Poor Little Orphan Kids, With No Moms Or Fads

I like the thought of evolution
That a fish could outsmart god
Show him something new and bold
Like a human is something odd

I guess that’s just how people are
We think we’re all so special
7 billion people, all unique
Well I hate to be your buzz kill

But anarchist are just conformist
With a little dash of black
And an individual is just another punk
Who says rap is dead and the 60’s are back

An emo kid’s just a prep
Who balks at social adaptation
And a gothic kid is just a meat head jock
With less hand-eye coordination

So you’ll all pick: Fad or Fad
And you’ll all be some kind of elitist
Remember however, no one is truly unique
…well…except for all us artists
