Here lies old Ethel Mae McMurtrey
She fell while trimming a pine tree
The mortician removed the needles

A smile often hides a heart that’s breaking,
It’s as soothing balm when a heart is aching;
A smile often causes another’s heart to race,
Pouring a little joy onto their unsmiling face;
It’s always difficult to experience pain & sadness,
When all around, other’s, are displaying gladness.
A smile can be a cold drink on a sweltering day,
That we’ve freely given, while expecting no pay.
In short, it becomes effortless to not bottle up fear,

Fred never bought a pedestal for Ethel's keep
and he provided her with only things cheap.
Despite being a grouch and miser,
it was oft clear Ethel was Fred's desire.
Ethel loved, fussed at and foiled her man
while giving his happiness all one can.
The more she and Lucy grew trouble,
the more she longed for Fred on the double.

Linnie Mae Ethel you were christened.
I never knew you by that name.
No one ever called you Linnie.
Now that really is a shame.
I surmise you didn't like it,
Ethel is the name you used.
Mother is the name I called you,
And all others I refused.
Even Daddy called you Mother.
Ethel too with love infused.
Total strangers called you Mrs.
Hoping you would like that best.
Each and every name but Mother
Lacked the flavor of our nest.

then there came the fiery one,
red headed rancid Reeta,
she threw hot coals into his bed,
an flew on him the cheater,
they wrestled and they fought like dogs,
but she was fierce with anger,
the smoke n fire did billow, fog,
burning flesh ere the manger,
so they sprang into the icy sea,
made love till they were soggled,
Odin looking down, with a tiny frown,
dubbed em hairy Gog n Magoggle

mama ethel even though you,ve left us
we know where you are
GOD called you up to Heaven
to be one of His shining stars
we know you are reunited with dad
your one and only love
and the family cant wait to see you again
in heaven up above
so dear mama wait by the gate
with your arms open wide
that will keep us all going
till we meet you on the other side
