Crossing the Equator

In snow-swept realms
of yearly melting
soft tips of grass rise
peeking through frost-covered earth

where temperatures rise and fall
inconstant changes
before the celestial heavens
slowly move across the equator
to bring a gift of tender caress
from the rays of the sun
like the warm hands of a lover
in shadowed light

where the breath of a solstice
blows across the Northern Hemisphere
that danced naked in

She steadily marches along the equator of life
Optimism and hope parading along beside her trying to catch up
I sigh, recognizing my youth, but unable to grab it back
There is such contentment and love, I want a piece of it.
Do I have the impetus to snatch it back?
I fear not.
I watch enviously as she strides along

CROSSING OF THE POLLYWOGS HAIKU
Blazing sun above
makes the sky so blue it's white,
burned from so much light;

raising from the sea
waves of heat's pulsating rays
in the distant haze

from a cresting wave
schools of fish take to the wing
make a fluttering;

Crossing of the line
equators not meant to see.
It's a sailor's tale.

Pollywogs prepare
for that moment, harsh and crude
Zero latitude.

Autumn's quite colourful but I'm partial to warm
Like the cockles of my heart, need sweat beads to form
I'm a happy old geezer
Cold temps cause me seizures
Living naked at the equator but watching out for thorns

The best way's to find the North Star.
  Two stars in Big Bear
  Are pointing to where
Polaris in Small Bear shines far.
