DANCING IN THE BREEZE

DANCING IN THE BREEZE

He knew this was a special day.
Her beauty took his breath away.
His throat went dry as he said hello.
Fearing she would turn and go.

She smiled at him, so he took his chance.
And through bated breath asked her to dance
She clutched his hand; they danced all night.
They laughed and joked; things just felt right.

Decades pass, now both retired
They still share wedded bliss.
Emphasised each morning.
With a gentle loving kiss

Awakened by the dawn chorus.
As distant church bells peel
She looks across and smiles at him.
But his body is cold and still.

Her heart now badly broken
She knew this day would come.
She cannot face the future.
Without her only love

She passed shortly after
They’re now eternally together.
The cherished love they shared.
Shall always last forever

When I scattered both their ashes
Beneath the apple trees
I’m sure I saw them smiling.
Dancing merrily in the breeze.

Fish n Taties

He knew all there was to know
About the frying game
Haddock, cod, skate and ling
All treated just the same.
A deft flick of the wrist to draw
Each piece through the batter
Then the basket lowered into
The hot oil’s spit and splatter.
A basket full chips
Placed alongside
For food of the gods
Quickly deep fried.
Well wrapped in clean paper
When the order was complete
Or the wrapping left open
To be eaten on the street.

Salt pepper vinegar
To add to the flavour
Giving a hot meal for
Any person to savour.
Sits well on top of pints
Calms a stomach down
Known to all and sundry as
The best chippie in town.
The third generation
Carrying on from his dad
A point he emphasised
When he ran his local ad.
Proudly above his shop was
Displayed his family name
And they knew all there was
To know about the frying game.

TO BE OR NOT
Experiences re-lived
culled from images I've seen,
books recalled,places I've seen;
Re-fashioned,enhanced and changed
emphasised and re-arranged,
evoked,re-styled in shaded tones,
uniquely embossed my own;
Written out for you to see
this poem trapped,within me..
Now,you dear reader..set free
This poem trapped within my mind,
To leave it here,is it unkind?
Like a caged bird it flaps around
It sings its song,but makes no sound;
So should it stay or be set free
Or ever stay a mystery ?

In the Studio With Dave

Ten guitars line the wall
A rack of six, a rack of four
Standing sideways to me while
Proudly facing me, two more
Making the point that this was a
Place of music, joy, creative pain
Emphasised by the lyrics of
A broken daisy chain,
Another a song of
A life over too soon
The only expressed regret of
How he would miss the moon.
Music flowing over me
As I sit with half closed eyes
Sinking into the mood
Unaware of time flowing by.
Twelve guitars stand watching
Making me aware
This is a place of music
Of crafting, loving care.
I think they still watched me
As we closed the door
Wishing there had been time
To listen to so much more.
