To hide yourself in public,
and turn your back on fame
Choosing thence to be alone
—the fire without the flame
(Dreamsleep: January, 2020)
soft
warm
loving
Katy Cat
such pure loyalty
I had never known from humans
as years pass, I see I may never find it again
unless I overcome the emptiness I felt when I lost her and adopt once more
life
ends
sometimes
far too soon
grief can overwhelm
paralyzing abandoned souls
preventing us from moving on and taking a chance
we may discover love’s embers can reignite if we just learn to open our hearts

A spectacular burst
Smoldering embers
Become ash and earth
We did not spontaneously combust
We burned beautifully, heating, lighting, energizing
We could feel wind picking up
It just happened so fast
Was it me or someone else
That threw on gas
January 29, 2018
The flames had long died down
But embers lingered on
Till persistent snowflakes fell
And the last remnants of hope
Slowly fizzled out.
