Embers and Snowflakes

The flames had long died down
But embers lingered on
Till persistent snowflakes fell
And the last remnants of hope
Slowly fizzled out.

This is quite lovely, in its unrequited sadness-- the symbolism made me think of long ago loves that were lost (owing to my own failures usually.)

How meaningful in just five lines, it is also beautiful in the literal sense :) I wish this had placed, but it is nice that it is among best new poems :)

Sorry the spark didn't ignite. I too have had a lack of ignition in several contests of late. Either way I personally am a fan of your piece.
