Mates Just Mates

They grew up side by side two kids in a park
Playing together until the streetlights lightened the dark
Growing as school friends and team mates in football
They had a drink together at the end as their call

They were a bit wild as youngsters will be
Until they joined up wanting the world to see
But war zones aren’t the place to seen
Especially in a dirty war when nothings clean

The IED ruined it all on the spot
And one passed as the explosive ruined the lot
There was colour in the funeral as they laid him to rest
With a white tablet marking his grave at the country’s bequest

But you see they will be mates to the end
And each Friday afternoon he went to drink with a friend
Standing alone with a beer in
the front of the grave
He had the usual drink with a mate toasting the brave.

Premium MemberForget-Me-Not

Riss Rumphius lived by the sea
the Lupine Lady, free as can be
tossing seeds for many hours
pleasing kids-- with her flowers

I think she lived a fulfilling life
even without ever being a wife
look how the children love her
like a flower-fairy god-mother

I do not have to wait till later
to grow lupines above the equator
I grow forget-me-nots already --
they're multiplying -- & spreading!

New project: pressed & dried
flowers between the pages hide
till they create some dainty gift
when the pressing works (well, IF)

Old Missionary Kids Talk About Faith

At Chefoo Reconsidered we did speak
Of faith as something we as children held
To be most precious, with our parents’ fierce
Example holding us to sacred truths
But now as adults with accomplished years
We looked with cool detachment on that fire
And wondered if with tainted motives they
Flew us from homelands to a foreign field
With them to fight for faith against some foe
That now may seem to us imaginary
And in so doing wound our youngling souls
Yet all the same - some fire of faith persists
Be it nostalgia for our Mums and Dads
Or maybe glowing remnant of belief
(Or did the love of Jesus never die?)
Thus in your writings, Andrew, and your poems
A light of kindled faith I feel, and warm
To its blessed incandescent rays as one
Who faith did sometime lose, yet seek again

Premium MemberDeath's Cold Hand

Easter brings back sad memories.
My mother died on Good Friday.
She was a bible scholar and quoted
Jesus's words every day to us kids.
I remember her love for lavender,
Her operatic gentle voice singing to us.
How she loved little children with joy
And what a great grandmother she was.

Subdue: Manchester City

Who will shirk me of this load
The garment so heavy I'm weak
Heaven in cry, world in bleak
Like wet rag, cloth I wear
The sorrow, the pains I bear
Heavy it is to carry, these tears
In fear I saw them cold
Cold, cold, in tons and folds
Glum the faces of elderlies
In cold, in tears, it's over
Subdued is me, Manchester
But strong these kids hola
To terror face they sang
In smiles, in cries, in smiles
Above cowardly acts we are
Thank you kids, thank you, Ariana

Got Not My Just Desserts

It was often said, she was my better angel,
but terminal illness clipped her beautiful wings
As my faithful wife, me she always watched over
I wished my dirty snow life had been more clean

We made snow angels when we were kids,
and I loved how she would look at me
with those innocent doe eyes
She always forgave me for any wrong I did,
even when she had got that dying disease
Smiling, she would wipe my tears away whenever I cried

I always knew I didn’t deserve her love,
her kind-hearted spirit was above my pay grade
At her casket, I held her velvet glove ...
kissed her hand, and thanked God
for letting my dear wife rest pain-free in the shade

In my heart, I know I got not my just desserts,
it should’ve been me
the grave diggers were burying under the earth
I live today
because her forgiveness of me was heard by God
Now my better angel has flown away,
and my soul cries daily aloud

Lament of My Life

Sun shines but there is frail in my room
My whole life is covered by total dimness
Ever since you left, my world changed.
I could not wear the best smile on my cheeks.
You painted love and defined what it is,
But suddenly disappear just like you did.
What would my life be if you were still with me?
Guess I’m not lost amidst of ambiguity.
I could imagine how magical it would be
Clashing our brilliance and odd styles,
Counting twinkled stars untouchable above and
Writing our stories to tell it to our kids.
All of our dreams would plausibly do come true
If you decided not to leave so soon…
Now I’m holding our pictures
Looking back the uncut scenes of past,
Abruptly tears pour on my face and yelp.
What made you decide to give up on us?
What made you choose to give your life up?
Oh why?! Please tell me your answers darling!
Till I realized that I’m still lamenting inside
Longing for love and care at your side.

Vituperations of An Oppressed Man

VITUPERATIONS OF AN OPPRESSED MAN
Heaven will not smile on your home
Neither will the sun rise in your dome
For you have crossed my zone
And indeed crushed my bone
You fed me with doom
Just because my land is rising in boom
For almost two hundred and ninety nine nights
And extended to this night
My sprouts have not seen a bright light
You forced me out of my comfort zone
And make my kids prisoner of conscience
And lynch them with weapon of science
You cart away my wives’ brocade
By using religion as façade
Hence carry out your gruesome carnage
You pounced on villagers with no exemption to town dwellers
My city is not safe
Neither is the dwellers saved
I cannot compete with you
Neither can I combat you
What I’m left with is to beg you
To leave my land now
For the night is near
And the nemesis is close
Because the stage is set
And you shall face the music

Death At Winter

I bares my bosom to
the open wind.

caressing and kissing
enternal peace to
what only heart can
feel.

I have stayed too
long
on this night of dead
winter.

Muttered lips gives
birth to words from
frozen and senile
thoughts.

No farewell,
thankless,i departed
as my heart sleeps
with the ice and
snow
flakes.

what is left of me?
The silver tears of
my
angelic wife,such
golden goddess.

And the wail of
cherubic kids.
With my fore i now lie.

Elegy For a Twinkie

No more Twinkies, no more Yodels;
Say farewell to Sno Balls, too.
Ring Dings soon will be extinct
And Devil Dogs, as well, are through.

Plus you’ll have to wonder where
Your fluffy white bread went because
If Wonder was the brand you bought,
This news I bring will give you pause:

For Hostess brands (and Drakes as well)
Have closed their doors, declared defeat;
But oh, those squiggle cupcakes! They,
In childhood days, were such a treat!

Hostess cakes are front and center
When I’m sweetly reminiscing.
I feel bad for kids today
And all those Twinkies they’ll be missing!

Voices From the Sky

So sad
So very, very sad
Those voices from the sky

So little time
So much to say, In those
Moments before they die

So few
So very, very few
The words that said goodbye

So far away
So very, very far away…
Yet heard…every whisper…every sigh

So many…
I love you’s so many stifled cries
So many pauses…so many tear-filled eyes

So lovely
So very, very lovely
Those precious words from on high

So silent
So very, profoundly silent
After that last goodbye

Those last “I love you’s,
Tell the kids I love them too
We’ll meet again… me and you”

Phones gently
So, so gently
Laid down and moved aside

So hard
So very, very hard to leave
Those voices from the sky

Let's Roll!!

You Should've Stayed

Don’t let guilt
be the thing that drives you
away from sanity.

Eventually, everything
you feel
will be set free.

Honestly, I never thought
I’d care so much
that you’re gone—
but I miss you.
And now I know I was wrong.

Why did God have to take you away?
Couldn’t He see
you were still needed here?

Mom needs you.
So do your kids.
Dad pretends not to care—
but inside,
the feelings still exist.

Why did you leave?
You should’ve fought harder
to stay alive.

We miss you
as the days go by.
I see your face
every time I close my eyes…
but it’s not the same
without you here.

With you gone,
the days
just fade
away.

Death of the Cat

DEATH OF THE CAT

Cats are all the same?
Zimbo was his name
He was an Asian Mackerel,
That’s his colouring term technical.
About nine years old, everyone’s pet
Went missing for days, daughter began to fret

Older brothers found him cold
On road, by a car he’d been rolled
Just one knock clean on his head
And the poor wee thing was dead
Zimbo was laid in garden by the boys
With weeping daughter adding his toys.

I’d been working away for two years
The States, Moscow, Algiers
Missed the kids and their growing lives
Taking them on walks and drives
Missed their exams, prizes, colds and ‘flu s
What birthday dress to choose, what daily news.

It’s I who should have been there at
The final farewell to the family cat
This one event showed clearly to me
How I’d lost my role in the family.
Just a little creature which had to depart ?
I still feel pain from my heart-dart.

Poor Hope

Her husband was a kindly man,
never thought himself too grand,
fought hard and long in World War II,
what he saw there, no one knew.

They raised their kids to be good folk,
and, Lord, that man could tell a joke.

Two years ago, he got real sick,
and wound up in the hospital quick.
Two years of chemo, and radiation,
he fought like he had for his nation.

His sons gave marrow, the pain endured,
and, God be blessed, he was cured!

When he came home, he seemed depressed,
convinced his finances were a mess,
no one could tell him otherwise,
though his bank books were right before his eyes.

Last week, he took his shotgun to the shed,
and that's where poor Hope found him dead.

The Dark Men

THE DARK MEN

Eyes like cynthia's brow
staring beyond the sky
In a ruminative refined temper
In an everlasting trance.
The men of the dark devised it
They devised the devilry journey
Like the rustling of a dry leaf
He has rustled up,
And crossed the rubicon, and ingress to
The world of inexorable tranquility

Man is now terrific
Man is bestial and blustery
Man has turned into a canal beast

O why is it so cruel
Even to the innocent?
Yes! He was not a hood
They take even the innocent away
When ravening who
To take next in this gloomy
World

Like a savage dog in
the mist of vivacious kids,
it has been in my heart,
Since he traveled to the great beyond.
The today of tomorrow have been wracked
