An effulgent light dawns
Dispelling all darkness
Shattering veils of doubt
Illuming hidden truths
And bestowing wisdom.
Of all the words in English lore,
That sounds like something from before,
Like “flibbertigibbet” or “brouhaha”,
Or some old, useless, “codswallop”, “tara-da-da,”
There is one that shines with such a wondrous glow,
A luminous and lovely, “lo and behold!”
It is not “glimmering,” nor just merely “bright,”
It speaks of pure, unadulterated light.
“Effulgent”, a word to make the spirits soar,
Describing brilliance from its very core.
It’s the sun at noon, in all its blazing power,
The vibrant, perfect essence of a flower,
A sudden, clear epiphany, a light on a dark way,
The radiant, shining splendor of a brand new day.
A complex, long, and winding word, you see,
A verbal rigmarole, if it needs be,
But once you grasp the luster of its sound,
True, shining, radiant wonder you have found.
So let the other words go lickety-split and fast,
“Effulgent” is a gem built to last!
So brightly lit, my birthday cake.
Such icing-on-dessert uptake.
My Autumn years illumined flight,
October with effulgent light.
Candy corn, shaped like fangs, I eat.
Orange-yellow, Brach’s honey-sweet.
Smiles, blinking pumpkin, in the night.
October with effulgent light.
The crisp and thrash, of pretty leaves.
The grandkids’ beat; my heart receives.
Plenipotent sound of the night -
October with effulgent light.
The cold, fresh air and bonfire smoke;
The colorful lanterns and folk.
Big, bright and red - the Hunter’s moon.
October with effulgent light.
Wherever We Went Face Was Effulgent
Always remember wherever we went,
Face of Jesus shone and was effulgent;
Meet our demand,
And hold His hand,
While our savior has been His intent.
