The kings of backgammon, descendants of
Bulgarian kings and Austro-Hungarian princes
Russian counts and countesses, Czech barons
Your ancestors have seen better days.
They accepted their fate as the natural state of affairs
And when it turned out to be just a fickle fortune
They had the nurture and tact not to show their shock,
Though usually such a ruthless discovery crushes many.
Now, as you spend your days playing backgammon in smoky cafes
You rarely remember the fragments of days gone by.
You've learnt to rejoice in trifling victories, and not to be disheartened by losses.
The descendants of exiled kings and ruined nobles
They organise championships of sad joy
The winner owes a round of beer for everyone.
The new Russian opposition makes the right acquaintances
Just like the old one did a hundred years ago
And in their later years, they all convert to Catholicism
Since Orthodox churches don't have pews
At least with Catholics you can doze off unnoticed
With a sniff of incense through the candle light.

Aging braincells get rewired
And one way I surely know it
Is that I am always tired
And my face and body show it.
Even after hours of sleeping,
If I sit to read a book,
Sometimes drowsiness comes creeping
And it grabs me with a hook.
Or, if slightly after eating,
I relax and watch TV,
I’ll doze off before completing
“Law and Order: SUV.”*
Seems within that tangled webbing
Of our brains, the gears are clicking;
Thus our energy, now ebbing,
Lets us know the clock is ticking.
*It’s really “Law and Order SVU,” but
SUV is how my husband & I refer to it.

Emptiness seems paler,
Within the wind and the movements,
Echoes begin to creep in,
Without a beat, beyond the warnings,
The effervescence that once fueled my tools now sears my lungs,
Collecting old shadows I left to rest from once upon a time,
Colors are only a delicacy for monsters,
And the taints in my spine are drained by dementors,
Fallen for the light that seeps through the wooden blinds,
Convinced, maybe this time!
It’s only right,
The stars can be kind,
At times the sky speaks in tears,
While the storm strikes the pillars of my heart with fears,
Visions creating instruments out of casualties in my storms,
I wonder sometimes, how much combat is left in my bones,
Resist to insist for joy,
Yet every step feels like a bridge I destroy,
I’ve shown my skin and strengthened my pride,
My words have lost their loom through the valley of my tribe,
One day I hope I doze off and find some ease,
For I know, no limbs of mine can do what love can please.

Join me while we doze off in a lavender field
Allow me to indulge in a few splashes of color
Hold these drips of yearned-for times in mind
to enter magical paradises with a simple slide.
and immerse yourself entirely in me
A teardrop slides and drips down your cheek
leaving a dead spot on your lips corner
The intense thrill of being in devotion.
soon we shall be overflowing with feeling
A hypnotic embrace of skin-on-skin
entwining and encircling one another
sharing a night of laughter and affection.

with slender four legs
on the narrow table,
6 whole wheat bread slices
golden knife,
non-rotting wooden food stand
golden bucket
fragrant orange
Beyond, distant mountains shake
golden curtains that are cozier than a duvet
cat sitting down
doze off
a cat front
no tomorrow
someone starving under the table
crumbs
waiting to fall
with the morning sun.

SATURDAY MORNING
The alarm bell has a modified
Saturday tone
And I murmur
give me 5 minutes more.
A good night’s sleep
A peaceful morning
I doze off.
Give me 5 minutes more.
I get up, make a coffee
The good feeling continues
The world is wonderful
Until the phone rings!

Dear Traveler,
Set sail at Sunfall.
Let Nightfall set
You ashore,
Not Sunrise.
For both Dawn and troublous
Storms grow weary
At Nightfall and make it
Their bedding.
Even Pirates, too, do
Doze off as do drunken
Monkeys in this hour.
Dear Traveler,
Sail now!
Let the Moon and Stars
Guide your path,
Not Sunlight.
For I have traveled
By both and would
Be telling this in ages
To come...

When my son was small,
I would place my hands over him
and he would doze off without fear
One day he placed his hands over me.
Tiny, tender hands on my back
soft like a flower
gave much joy.
That moment is etched in my memory
Still gives joy every time I remember it
Most happiest moments of life are small
but give joy endlessly
Collect many such happy memories
Recollect them as often as possible

Riding on the chariot of light
Sun is coming to vanquish night
Warm welcome accorded by moon
It can doze off to sleep soon
Orange clouds, burning sky
Birds cheer watching darkness die
Multifarious chirping sound floats in air
Sun is greeted with rousing fanfare
From top of mountain sun peeks
Night dies giving an inaudible shriek
Tangerine, yellow sky replaced by white ashes
As sun emerges and his bright light flashes
All elements of nature applaud sun
For his victory over darkness easily won
Nightingale sings a mellifluous song
To listen to it, all birds throng
All quite only nightingale sings
Much joy it's song brings

When I'm bored
I doze off and look at small details in the room
A mark on the wall
A stain on the carpet
Or a dent in a table
I don't think they are any different than anything else in the room
Small details aren’t any better or worse
They just are
When I'm bored I don't discriminate

The very thought of you leaves me happy,
Excitement fills my whole being!
You are in my thoughts for past many days,
I can no longer resist, no longer wait,
Today my desire will be fulfilled,
With joy I await...
I unveil you,
Exhilaration fills my whole being!
One look at you,
I am grinning,
I can no more hold back...
I throw away your covering,
And devour you part by part,
Each part more tempting than others...
Satiated I take a deep breath,
Peace fills my whole being,
I doze off to a blissful sleep.
I wake up, thinking of you,
My mind wants more of you...
You are so tasty and tempting,
Oh Pizza! I love you!
Sensuality like any other desire,
leaves you longing for more.
Mind is never satiated!
Thirst forever unquenched!

Thanksgiving Day
There’s something about Thanksgiving Day
That makes living worthwhile
With thankfulness for home and family.
While the children are outside playing,
The adults are bustling and fussing around,
Preparing and cooking food in the kitchen,
Which suckles the palate and warms my heart
And makes me happy to witness.
With the gobbler in the oven
And pumpkin pies chilling,
The aroma is delicious.
“Stay out of the way!” they say.
There are moments in life
When it’s best to become invisible,
And so I join the others in the living room
Who are chatting away and watching television.
To hear the sound of the table setting
As we sit and wait, anticipating, and then,
Heard over the chatter and TV, “Dinner’s ready!”
There’s something about so grand a meal
Of turkey and all of its trimmings shared with family
That makes me grateful and sleepy after eating.
And as I doze off, I contemplate the future:
“Without God in our lives, where would we be?”

Honestly, I am doing fine
I can stop at anytime
Just because I see Mahjongg tiles in my sleep
And I play so much I forget to eat
One little game becomes two
Then playing a hundred before I'm through
It wouldn't be so bad
But hardly winning makes me mad
So I play Mahjongg even more
Wanting to build up my score
Playing until I doze off to sleep
That haunting Chinses melody makes me weep
Mahjongg fever has no cure
Ancient Chinses game of skill for sure

It's that light in your eye.
The little smile on your face.
That keeps me alive,
And it reassures me of a good day.
It's those memories of you and me.
That makes any wrongs turn the sky to blue,
Rain showers into a beautiful rainbow,
And lengthen my happiness one more day.
As I get lost in my dreams.
Your image flashes every time I close my eyes.
Hard to imagine what the future holds.
Wishing for a bright day, one with you.
So, I open my arms as I doze off.
Wishing u grab onto them.
And sail with me, eyes focused and hoping,
For your love just one more day.

I was an artistic genius, don't you see?
I created a brilliant recipe.
I will be remembered beyond death,
for inventing Kidster meth.
I throw in lye and kerosene,
and some pseudoephedrine,
and to make you feel more euphoric,
I mix in some acid, hydrochloric.
It may be toxic and corrosive,
and potentially explosive,
but Kidster meth was the best meth in town,
until the DEA shut me down.
I wouldn't call it a transgression,
Kidster meth would clear up all depression.
Do a lot of it and you would never doze off,
but you would most likely chew some of your toes off,
Yes, Kidster meth was the best meth in town.
Actually, I've never done meth, I'm just Kidding around.
