The smoldering sun shines incessantly
Until the earth’s humidity hastens
The forming of cinereal clouds calmly covers
The spacious skies above and suddenly
Gentle rain soft but steady
Begins to fall, splattering and wetting the soil.
The pitter-patter pronounces a petrifying tune
Upon the roofs, amorous rondel tunes.
Oh, how I love the fresh feeling of the rain.
I feel like singing in the heavenly showers
I get dishevelled and drenched.
Yet I will sing a symphony of love,
For I am happy even more.
Love is in the air.
Thank God, no lightning spoils the sky.
Yet it rains even more.
The grass is even greener now.
It sparkles with dewy drops,
And sheds its pleasant petrichor,
A harmonious and happy fragrance
In our vast verdurous vale.
Meantime my Mary joined us in the melee`,
We dance a Dougie under the deluge,
Until tired we went in for a warm shower…….

Dougie the dinosaur catcher is a magnet for owls and dolphins too.
He has two dwellings – one in the forest, and one in the ocean blue.
He has caught sixty-eight dinosaurs, who refuse to shoo.
They live in his houses though their dismissal is long overdue.
They love him so much. He is like animal magnet glue.
They have moved in an owl, a cat, and a dolphin named Lou.
He has stopped catching dinosaurs, but now has a cow named Moo.
What do you bet that bovine will refuse to leave too?

He came into the barnyard and looked around
Choosing a mate, who squawked and went underground
Okay, he said. I’ll take that one, her sister.
She screeched and fluttered, not happy with this mister.
It’s a cockatrice, her cousins whispered among themselves.
They had heard of such a creature, dreaded by young elves.
He flew off with his prize, she was struggling against his wing.
Little did they know, she was secretly a willing little thing.
She had been with him before, and she knew he was gallant and brave.
They had a bunch of little Cocktrices – Danny, Dougie and Drave.
They came back to the barnyard to collect their wives among the flock.
A farmer came out to stop them. There was soon a giant deadlock.
With one look from the cocktrices, the farmer fell into a stupor quick.
He was paralyzed instantly as they gave him the eye, so thick.
Why did you paralyze him? Their mama asked, flying in to roost.
Weasel came by, and they scattered, afraid of him, if you want to know the truth.

An old
Black and white dog
Lies on the floor
At my feet,
Content, how soundly he sleeps.

"Dear Jess, when I first met you,
We were halfway through Year Nine,
You had enormous hair and pigtails
And a grin as big as mine,
We were friends from that day onwards,
And had so many good times
That some I can't recall
Or fit them all into a rhyme,
We played pranks on all the teachers;
Crofty trembled at our names,
We tormented Mr Hill
And let Nathan take the blame,
We've made so many crap cakes
And nachos with too much cheese,
Inedible and incredible,
Such is our expertise,
We went skateboarding at night,
Though we never knew quite how,
But we had a great time failing
And we still can't do it now,
Have an awesome 18th birthday,
With too much food and legal drink,
Now's the time you should become mature,
Or so some people will foolishly think!
I know you'll stay this cool forever,
And be a success in many ways,
So have a year sexier than Dougie,
And be happy for all your days!"
And you'll notice in this poem that trying
To be cool, all my effort I've hid,
It's only some rhyme for a friend after all...
...Ah, who am I trying to kid?
