Speak of the devil incarnate
to give the devil his due
not to play devil's advocate
tho' devil-may-care
the devil is in the details
and while we're there
to state so now would be opportune
he who sups devil's food cake
or devilled eggs with the devil
should have a very long spoon
but if we don't the devil you say
better the silver-tongued devil you know
or there'll be the devil to pay
and we may go to the devil and be
between the devil and the deep blue sea
but it's the devil in me
as for the devil I have no sympathy
'It takes one to know one', so they do state,
but that won't take you far,
as we're never told exactly who these 'they' are.
'It's not what you know, it's who you know',
so the saying goes,
but the devil is in the details,
and I say, 'It's what you know about whom you know,'
which really goes to show,
whomsoever holds the power prevails.
'You have to give them what they want', so it is said,
but that only adds to my pique,
as I know not those 'them' of whom they speak.
Some may say 'I have an axe to grind',
but that's neither here nor there,
as I take issue with; 'they', 'who' and 'them' unknown,
yes it's my cross to bear.
It is in the details.
Between the things that seemed to matter but never really did,
and the things that you overlooked,
that crawled quietly into your head and found a home in you.
It is in the details.
The shadows cast on the ruins of love as the sun goes down.
It is the way that her eyes seemed to change colour
when she needed you the most,
the way you stacked the spare change from your pocket,
one coin carefully on top of another,
on your bedside table at the end of the day.
Yes, the devil is in the details.
Don’t forget who it is that you love when everything has been stripped bare....
Release the world from your faulty perceptions,
And all the threatening things you believe it to be.
We see the world through our own tinted lenses.
Only the things we look for, are the things that we see.
When we question the origin of misguided beliefs,
They cannot hold up to scrutiny’s piercing gaze.
When exposed, they cauterize our gaping wounds by
Forgiving the sins, releasing the pain in a glorifying blaze.
The devil is in the details.
It's a house of cards built on shifting sand.
Release one false belief and let
The rest collapse in your trembling hand.

With every little smile
Hides a spectacular ploy
How this manipulative grown man
Turns into an angelic little boy
Every word carefully sourced
Constructed to bring him treasure
He will stick the knife in
Pretending to love in equal measure
Its hard to tell the mask
Even when it slips he never fails
Always something much darker going on
The devil is in the details
You have to know he is near, you have to know he is around
Perhaps sensing it in your fear or a feeling of being bound
You never know what he will do or what other things he'll try
But he's out to destroy you because he wants your soul to die
Again and again he'll attack seeking the easiest point of entry
Knowing all you lack helps in the defeating of one that's free
You walk around unprotected and don't even seem to care
The King of Kings you neglected and of this, he is aware
You he just wants to finish while you wander aimlessly astray
So the attacks diminish in just letting you have your say
Things go pretty well, theres no need to call for God's Hand
Soon you can't even tell what you can't even begin to understand
The one who seeks to destroy you is finally on your side
And on you he sort of grew in along with your pride
Yet you should know he is so near and quietly sneaking around
But you don't have any fear, for you haven't heard a sound
1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour
