The President was woke by his generals
a message hard to understand,
their nuclear missiles had all turned to chocolate
in silos all over the land.
The warheads, once fissile uranium
or Hydrogen, ten megatons
now smelt like fresh brownies or steaming Cocoa
and the same thing applied to all guns.
The bullets were all made of candy,
they'd have to be kept in a fridge,
put in a gun belt they would all start to melt
and when fired, just hit with a squidge.
The bombers and tanks now were useless,
the soldiers were all unemployed,
all demobbed, free to roam with their families at home
making up for hours they'd not enjoyed.
You can't win a war with a cutlass,
machete, a hatchet or knife,
so the Nations all paused and agreed to end wars
and then happily got on with life.
Now, okay this tale maybe pure fiction,
could God pull off this stunt? Yes he can,
but to love or to kill he gave us all free will-
he has left the choices down to Man.

Brave Soldiers
We all like soldiers, if not brutal enemy soldiers, only ours,
they defend our country keep it safe even if they fight wars
little to do with defends but more to do with securing oil
fields and other minerals. Everyone in politics like soldiers
even if they don´t know any since soldiers are usually from
poor and deprived background. TV reporters too get misty
eyed when talking about our incredible brave boys.
Some soldiers behave badly, shooting wounded men, as in
Fallujah, and peeing on corpses of people they have shot;
and some leave the camp at night, go out and civilians, for
the pleasure of it. On the whole soldiers are nice people who
believe lies they are told by superiors. Problems start when
soldiers are demobbed-finding a job, and missing the intense
*****erotic camaraderie makes them dysfunctional in normal
family settings. Divorce, and alcohol do the rest, end up sleeping
under bridges. Yes, our soldiers are brave and a bit dense, can´t
hack it in civilian life and some end up shooting themselves.

Defunct Soldier
When I met him he was an homeless old soldier, one who has fought
every war in the last hundred years, cannon, fodder for big business
and those who say that our society needs to be saved from migrants.
The last war he fought was in Fallujah this time he was an American
soldier who believed in the righteousness of his mission, only to find
when he came home and demobbed, he was alone in a world that
took no interest in his war of freedom.
Undeterred he went to Afghanistan and fought there, another war that
had no meaning other than keeping licensed warriors in employment.
The common soldier is forty and never rose above the rank of sergeant,
old soldiers are not officer material, they just go on fighting were they
are sent, and sadly since the world War Two there has not been a honest
war, but that is not the concern of the nameless soldier who every year
in Paris, we put flowers on his grave.

Losing Armies (dignity)
May 1945, the occupying forces in Norway surrenders, a flag
is lowered another one hoisted. The occupiers’ commandant
hand his revolver to the man from the home front, there is
dignity. The enemy now prisoners, go back to their barracks
and wait to be skipped home to their country.
Another war, in the Middle East 70 years later, the occupiers
leave in the night unseen by the masses, they too have lost
but pretend they are victors. No dignity, only an unspoken
sense of dishonor. And the soldiers, of the vanquished army,
will be demobbed, given medals and sacrifices are forgotten.
