I never will forget the days of old
when having neighbors meant more to us then.
I think that for technology we’ve sold
the sweetness of the way things were back when.
I used to read the tales of Nancy Drew
but couldn’t buy the books since we were poor,
but nearby was a rich girl that we knew.
To borrow books from her, I’d run next door!
We’d borrow other things like sugar and
the butter for the cookies Mom would make.
At Christmas, having neighbors was so grand,
for treats to one another we would take.
We’d talk outside on porches, so laid back,
and I would play with neighbor kids all day.
Conveniences today we do not lack;
Dang cell phones rule, and that’s the modern way.

Another day was spent,
Another day was earned.
Another day was lent,
Another day was burned.
Moments that were crossed,
Moments that were paved.
Moments that were tossed,
Moments that were saved.
Loss of my step,
Loss of my stride.
Loss of my pep,
Loss of my pride.
Closer to the ground,
Closer to the wind.
Closer to the mound,
Closer to the end.
there once was a time
humans walked for a life time…
in their heads still do

I remember a time when,
Things were simple
When kids were kids and technology,
Had not diseased their young minds.
The future of America looked bright,
Then those traitors on bended knee,
Turned their back on old glory.
Shredding the image that we once,
Held dear in our hearts.
Destroying a nation that we can,
Never come back from.
How can we police the world when,
We can not police ourselves at home??
Those olden days those Celtic lands
Now I ponder my ancient kin
Who kept awake while listening
During the stormy nights of rain and winds
Cold wet nights those achy joints brought and bring
And now as then there were books paper and pens
For storms now halt electricity and computers
They lay still and quiet all the day
While back then women tended those in need
And monks made honey mead and prayed
Large dogs sat quietly near the door
Keeping watch for the mistress and meat
That fell from her cooking chores
Pieces thrown to good dogs treats that fell upon the floor
For now pens, books and papers return
As we wait for a heavy storm
Home sounds are softer our minds are quiet
Listening for winds and thunder our new norm
Returned are the memories harsh and sweet of the olden days of yore
Days Of Old
Morning breeze, the summer skies
Starry nights and county fairs
Birds in trees and on the lines
Coins we’ve tossed and running scared
The child within I cannot find
If love’s not here then I am lost
The wayward winds I’ve left behind
The end is near, the paths we’ve crossed
From beneath my cave I’ve seen the light
Outside the heart where life begins
The words I’ve saved to win the fight
A spark that starts the fire within
A breath that breathes the gift of life
The clouds that shade the feelings blue
A death that bleeds the sacrifice
The colors fade, that once were you
An offering that life no longer shares
The days of old and festive times
A style of peace the season wears
The memories wrinkled in paper rhymes
In winter frost I was the snow
That you have made into a man
Come new spring the seed would grow
And bloom like warmth of summer wind
They were the days of old and true
They are the ways we learn to live
They drift like waves from oceans blue
Then pass like memories, through a sieve

There is no sign of an Esky
Nor sight of a barbecue
Not even one pesky fly
In this picture that I view
No sign of children playing
With bat and ball
No sign of guns and rifles
Not much to see at all
Just peace
People sitting on long grass
No sign of people drinking
Beer or spirits from a glass
The only thing I spy
Are adults and different cars
I know they can't be out in space
It was too early to fly to Mars
The only thing I can think of
That used to give some motorists pleasure
Back when people met in their cars
To find some hidden treasure
In those olden days
People was happier you’d say
For times for us were tough
And living life was rough
But we did not need that much
Not the latest thing and such
We would go out and leave the locks off
And gave each other a wave and not a scoff
It was best said by the four Yorkshire men
Who said “times were tough back then”
“And you know we were poor”
“But we were happy then because we were poor”
Just sitting around “drinking Chateau du Chasseur”
“On the Costa du Sol”
“And you try to tell the kids of today that and they don’t believe you.”
