Cowcatcher Poems | Examples

Ride 'Um Cowboy

Cowboy rides horse cowboy boots in stirrups
Cowboy hat waving in hand, yeehaw it’s grand,
Cowgirl is on the range! Lasso by corral
Appaloosa horse hurrah! Glad he’s a cowhand.

Dreaming of equipage horse-drawn
Carriage with attendants at wedding,
Hoedown rootin’ good time with
Root beer float, now kiss bride in west heading.

Galloping palomino golden tan coat
Rapid pace fast on each stride,
Cream-colored mane and tail fly high
Fair beautiful daughter sure and firm in abide.

Stagecoach rolls on by, near town Apache Junction
Locomotive sporting cowcatcher grille,
Black Stallion feisty and alive; husband’s
Love abounding in firm steadiness still.

Texas longhorn cattle cowherd on the range
Equestrian horseback riders like cowhide,
Head ’um out, move ’um out, rawhide! Open land wander and graze
Riding habit outfit, western sunset love now wide.

A political Opinion
(idioms taken from More Texas Sayings)
Composed: by Miracle man
3-26-2020

I believe she’s “so narrow minded
that she could look through a keyhole with both eyes,”
and could “start an argument in an empty house.”
When it comes to objecting, “she’s faster than small town gossip,”
and “so crooked you can’t tell from her tracks if she’s coming or going.”

I’ve always felt it’s better,”to keep your mouth shut and seem a fool,
than to open it and remove all doubt.”
She’s “like a rubber nosed woodpecker in a petrified forest.”

I’ve seen “her eyes stick out like a cowcatcher on a switch engine”
she “looks like death warmed over.”
because “she’s been around since water was wet,”

But,”she can strut sitting down,”
and believes that, “if she crows the sun comes up.”

Most politicians are like hogs, “they can’t pass a mud hole,”
and when they get their way, “they’re as happy as a hog in mud,”
but compromise “is like putting socks on a rooster,”
and “a hit dog always howls”

Premium MemberMy Next Brain

My next brain needs a bigger cow catcher.
The one I have now barely clears wolves and bears.
I want a scoop that will clear a huge swath.
Can push away skyscrapers and fire stairs.
To be able to blade away snowplows too.
Would make my heart leap with sheer crazy joy.
A blade to whisk away all sad, all thoughts of blue.
A fifty-five foot cowcatcher of fun, oh boy!

Premium MemberThe Coming Ending

Greyed cloudscape:
Even the leaves
have, true to their name,
left the Sky.

Readying work is
done.
Flowers, matings, done.

Repairs and preparations,
all made.
The only work remaining
is excuses.
Exculpations of a worn Self.

Rationalizations
follow realizations
which have long
followed idealizations.

Winter is coming
like a 30 ton steaming
locomotive (crazy motive)
let loose, downhill, and
feeling late to station.

I remember, though,
that surely as the cowcatcher
comes, threateningly
racing towards my Now,
it carries with it
an end of itself
a caboose, a Spring.

And so, though Winter
comes, so too does
it's End.
