invincibility had been a difficult pastime
the flak vest of insecurity and coverups
had managed to inflate anxieties and fears
to the bursting point of impromptu explosion
the festering boil had to be lanced at any cost
for resentments anger hurt and self-harm to subside
a bullet proof illusion was no longer an option
to call it friendly fire would be an understatement
what started as a splinter soon became a red-hot cudgel
incising the mind soul body complex of delusions
yet no more fully detached from valid emotions
he decided that having feeling was better than amnesia

How weird it is
All around the planet are pyramids
Yet we don't understand it fully, this makes me curious
The reason for their construction must've been serious
It makes me a bit furious
That I can't figure it out and nearly go delirious
Much of it I've questioned
Not to mention
The concept of dimensions
As well as prior civilizations with more advanced inventions
It's all beyond my own personal comprehension
It brings me some tension
No matter how much I pay attention
I still can't make the connection
In all totality
When you look beyond reality
You may lose some sanity
With the change in mentality
Snaked tongued people that are wicked
Hard to trust what they've depicted
Difficult to say what has existed
Then you got all these cryptids
All over the globe, pictures printed and writings listed
Was there ever such a thing as witches
Or is it all fiction
Like making wishes
Too many burnt bridges
Too many coverups involved with riches
Too many hearts colder than a fridge is

I see the photo and I am there,
taking the picture of my friends at
happy hour on Mabel’s porch,
Penny smiling, bare feet on railing board,
Mabel holding up her cocktail glass,
Jeannie reading a book, and Sue
just grinning for the camera.
Shorts, bathing suits, coverups,
damp sun-bleached hair order of the day.
I smell coconut sunscreen,
join the chatter and laughter,
discussing who was at the beach,
water temperature, jokes
about the wind blowing sand
into the snacks, the seagull
that snatched a ham sandwich
right from Jeannie’s hand.
The nerve of that sly bird!
Friends and neighbors passing,
walking to and from the beach,
waving, stopping to chat,
sometimes joining the fun,
every day after the beach,
before dinner, with maybe crabs
or fish caught earlier in the day,
served from the kettle or grill
onto paper plates, eaten with gusto.
I’ve moved away, to Nebraska,
nearer to our daughter and family.
Someone else lives in my beloved
Victorian with its own wide porch,
across the street from Mabel’s.
Mabel is gone now, the house
sold, different people there -
louder voices, louder music. No more
Danny Boy, Mabel’s favorite.

In need of fresh air, and to clear my mind. I could think of no better place than the beach. So hike I did down to the beach.
Sitting on the beach admiring this ageless ocean whilst the crashing waves hypnotizes me into freeing my soul, and dance to the rhythm of the water.
Freeing my coverups and dance I did towards her body of water. No jumping, just gently laying on top and letting her afloat me away. Calmly and gently hugging me whilst washing away my despairs.
Before long I was back on feet. A gentle wave tickle my feet, letting me know I’ll be just fine. Smiling with gratitude, I softly whispered my thanks, and hike I did back home feeling refreshed.

Like a burst of confetti
They erupt into the corner store.
Tanned, long legged,
Laughing and pushing each other.
They toss their sun-bleached hair
And glance around to see
If people are watching.
Beach outfits – bikinis
Barely hidden under short
Skimpy coverups.
Sandals, high platform heels,
Gold or red or raffia
With sparkly decorations.
They find the cold soda case
And finally each picks out
Some favorite drink.
They giggle. One fixes
The strap on another’s sandal.
They shove each other
And double over into
Gales of laughter
Over some private joke.
Still giggling, they make their way
To the cashier, pay for their drinks,
And explode into the street
The same way they came in.

Debree In His Degree
What would appear was a bunch of debris,
Which did come about in his elegant degree;
Is very rude;
Does delude,
Along with lies and coverups we could see.
