Proofs!!!
I could never grasp proofs
they were too much for me
How could side-angle-side equal
prove that the hypotenuse squared
plus, the cosine of angle A equal
the square root of Pi?
How could (x+a)^n=?_(k=0)^n¦?(n¦k) x^k a^(n-k) ?
prove to be the same as
f(x)=a_0+?_(n=1)^8¦(a_n cos??npx/L?+b_n sin??npx/L? )
How could a squared plus b squared
equal the sine of angle abc if angle
cba was obtuse?
How could the right leg of an
isosceles triangle be equal
to the sum of two right angles?
If Jimmy had two ducks and I had
four turkeys, how do we get
three and one-half turduckens
between us?
Good thing I can count to ten, otherwise I
would really be lost!

I attended three sermons in a row
In the neighborhood church on Jackson.
Tear dropped there too, on the quran of mine, sky-blue colored
And on the cover of the hymn prayer book, it strangely rhymed.
Sermon,
On Fridays and Sundays
Are they two unknown roads of Robert Frost?
Equally worn out? Equally taken along frequency?
So that strangers are mostly certain about the Tan, Sine and Cosine?
After an incessant rain , we could tell each other a tale , stopping, “Reign!”
Parentheses are like a memorandum of understanding, priorities of your own.
Papyrus,
After 5 pm, if they all there turn color blind to moo moo all the cows!
Cows that can type, and can create superb hypes!
I pressed, paused and neglected my churned up pasteurization
As for now,
Meaningful work-life -balance will do a sieve analysis, as per annum
Soup egg drops in an ocean of lemon grass
To make a way
As the cook was befitting!
Does not matter anyway, better leave her precious to leave or granted to go!
Silence is gold at times, and dollar values are poisons!
In-Activity or Inactivity
A silence knows the fairest reason!

Words would remain caged as her eyes gazed at mine
She resided in my Maths and Science book back in Grade nine
She visited me in my sleep; my dreams were no longer mine
According to my mom, my grades were no longer fine
She solved simultaneous equations for me with her exquisite smile
Took over my Trigonometry, I was Sine while she became Cosine
Theta became love to this heart of mine
Selfishness took over; the strategy was to make her mine
Formed new Laws of Physics, the attraction I could no longer hide
Dark brown watery eyes that made my feet lose a straight line
She remained the X Axis and I the Y Axis that never intersected her line
I could claim that she eventually became mine
but gravity took over as this love intertwined
I fell so hard but I was fortunate to be rescued by this pen of mine
I guess she will never know, Phumlani Mthethwa

The Mathematics Plague
By Elton Camp
It’s a fact of modern life we must face
Mathematics holds an important place
Arithmetic, basic algebra, geometry too
All are important skills for me and you
Of the people, only a tiny percent require
Advanced algebra, trig, calculus or higher
An educational development to abhor
Is to require all to take more and more
So much of it is of virtually no worth
To ninety-nine percent of folks on earth
Quadratic equations I’ve never had to solve
Nothing ever have those inequities involved
So far, I’ve gotten along in life just fine
Without using tangent, secant or cosine
Nor has it, even once, been of value to know
How fast, to overtake a car, I’d have to go
But we are making school increasingly tough
By continuing to teach our kids such stuff
It’s high time somebody cried out, “Enough!”
And childhood slavery to higher math rebuff

Apocalyptic sight
Six pairs of Homeric children’s eyes
Over the tomb of ice gray world
Multiply my infinite sorrow into sins with no eyes or ears
In tangents of nostalgia
I kiss the death there that life suffers lung cancer
Biblical accusation pierces the silence of solitary harp in the Century of Hamlet’s
Four soaked tears eyes
Cannot set in a web of art neither in the depth of tired aquarelle eyes
The old childhood love into triangle breaths depth
Shed tears in salt of survival
In the geometry of continents
Time impasse like me in the Scandinavian saga
Logical mathematics does not capture lines neither feast of hieroglyph tears
The root of injustice divides only parents' pain
Above the European dried moral
Six pairs of eyes and four pairs of eaves accuse
They live autumn of loneliness
Any number does not define emblem of loneliness
Not even a prayer of compassion
Cosine of loneliness interferes in verses and the poetry of human love
And the death doesn’t suffer the reception
because I draw lines while remaining just a number

All I'm asking is that you sign the line that is dotted....
Either that or cosine me a new brain wave

There is one mathematical rule we should know:
Nobody in the world can divide by zero.
Anyone who is a mathematical advisor
says you need something in the divisor.
You can’t have zero in the denominator of a fraction.
Zilch makes it undefined and out of action.
Americans, English, Canadians, and the Japanese,
say zero is at the intersection of the X and Y axes.
Naught for the X-value renders a slope undefined.
You cannot have a quotient when the slope is vertical-lined.
A tangent is a sine over the cosine ratio.
The tangent is undefined when the cosine equals zero.
So that is all I have to tell you today.
Did I make things clearer with what I had to say?
