The alarm clock sounds off to the tune of Neil Young’s, There’s a World.
A place that is non-existent in today’s life of a constant upwhirl.
Our dreams and aspirations are put to the side.
To get ready for the day of demands and haste for pride.
We enter our vehicles to begin a long drive, tiredness and red eyed.
To a place called work.
That requires you to do the tasks for that special perk.
No time to think.
No time to blink.
Your life is full of deadlines, distractions, until the pen runs dry, out of ink.
For hours on end, is this constant repetitive action.
You’re told what to say.
You’re told what to do.
Colleges are fighting over who is using the offices favorite glue.
We are all in this mess together.
Bound like pieces of sewn up stitches of leather.
All for the reward.
A paycheck to continue to do it over and over again.
Feeling like a dartboard.
Designed, controlled in the trap.
It is the life of a well paid collapse.

Severing of ties with our allies.
Court orders blatantly defied.
Plans to privatize, those federal
agencies now downsized..
Green card holders traumatized..
A thousand cuts.
A thousand bleeds.
Our wounded democracy falls
to it's knees,,
Lawyers and judges receive death threats.
Freedom of speech being suppressed.
Deportation with out due process.
Defunding colleges and PBS..
A thousand cuts.
A thousand bleeds.
Our democracy hemorrhages.
Our rights recede, as we
sleep walk into Autocracy...

Many believe it’s their time,
to just throw out their chest.
So being anti most things,
they destroy within a protest.
They’re beginning to appear
as in the stupid stage of life.
I wonder, if at some colleges,
they have a major called strife?

April 5—Get a sport into a poem!
Make Baseball Great Again!
It is time
to make American baseball
Great again
starting with creating a worldwide
baseball competition
with each season
with the national champions
competing in a World Cup World Series
with the final round pitting the
North American Champions
against the winners of Africa,
Asian, Europe, and South America
with the final rounds
best of seven
always held in the U.S.
The other things to do
include rapid expansion plans
including the MLB teams
adopting local schools and colleges
fully funding baseball programs
and only hiring college graduates.
as players.
and making tickets affordable
no more than ten dollars per game!
if they do this,
we can make baseball
once again the best sport
in the U.S.
Let’s all join together
to make baseball great again!

Cathedral Mosque
or Synagogue
their masquerade
the same
Preaching what
they don’t believe
the Good Lord
to profane
Christians Jews
and Muslims share
their hate for
other faiths
Self-righteous ire
scriptures burn
as blood flows
through the gate
Colleges and
social networks
homes where they
blaspheme
Younger hearts
and narrow minds
starving
to believe
The clock ticks down
as options die
in zero sum
degrees
The vilest thing
to haunt the earth
breeds death
— with each decree

I didn’t want to write this poem,
But how could I refuse
When every day I read or hear
More horror in the news?
The Mideast situation’s
Always had opposing views
And sadly, when there’s fighting,
Everybody feels the screws.
Yet after World War II, survivors
Thought they’d paid their dues,
But here we are again with hatred
Aiming at the Jews.
At colleges, behavior
That nobody should excuse
Has caused fear among the students
They have chosen to accuse.
Some had relatives the Nazis
Forced in camps to wear tattoos,
So they’re shocked to learn that loathing
Hasn’t managed to defuse.
It’s a horrible reminder
That so many can confuse
Outright evil with the right to have
A homeland one can’t lose.

I find myself looking at a vacant sky.
If he is the one, then God I will pray.
We finished high-school,
We're going to different colleges.
I only wish I've met you in the future
on a warm summer day.
I tell myself "no you cannot fall in love."
I cry to myself that he will leave
in the darkness of a cold winter day.
I've been left before, alone,
to suffer in the storm
just to heal in time for you to come.
I'm your first, which makes it worse.
I'm done exploring, yet I'm afraid you have not.
You're kind,
you're loving,
you're wonderful inside and out.
I only wish I've met you in the future
when my life is more stable than today.
God, I pray that he is the one.
God, I cherish the moments we have.
God, I'm young, naive at best.
God, why now does he come in to torture me?
God, please, I beg that long-distance will last.
Even if he is not the one, the memories will haunt.
No matter how much I beg, I know my fate.
Why so cruel does he have to be the right person?
Why God have you gifted me an angel
when my time hasn't come?

Together, we hope to bring every aspect of Chicano art
to this region as well as the rest of the world.
We have something wonderful to give—Cheech Marin
Arts scene that encourages emerging
Latino artists throughout the Inland Empire
local colleges and universities will research and learn about
the finest private collection of Chicano art in the U.S.

In the Land of Opportunity
Entitlement reared her pretty head
Without a backstop to plain bad luck
Social Security's safety net was spread
Next came the 'War on Poverty'
Food Stamps and ADC
It might have staved off hunger for a bit
But dependency was galvanized, and (yes), obesity
Today there is unprecedented help
for anyone who will only yelp
Free computer classes, GED, ESL too
Guaranteed Job Training programs in high schools
and community colleges, Yahoo!
Yet the percentage of those working has gone down
and dropping most free classes reigns supreme
Seems that 'giving away the farm'
won't bring back the American Dream
It's only one man's unscientific perception ~
but 'teaching a man to fish' still passes inspection

ADC = Aid to Dependent Children
GED = General Education Diploma (Equivalent to High School Diploma)
ESL = English as a Second Language (for immigrants and their children)

Millions of girls wanted to be delicate and pretty.
Mallory was not one of them, she wanted to be herself.
The others flocked to the same places
Wanting identical hairdos, copying another girl’s nail art.
Mallory had no time to worry about nail art.
She was learning bone and muscular structure
Millions of girls wanted to be invited to prom
Mallory was not one of them, she was answering her mail.
Sixteen colleges had told her that she had been admitted.
She was making her choices
Eight of them offered to pay her entire tuition.
One offered to also pay her room and board.
She selected that one.

I have met too many women who trade what they want
To please a man
Either their father or their lover
Sometimes their husband
I ask them “What do you want?”
They have no idea.
They had buried their dreams so deep
They could no longer access them.
I have encouraged these women to try and remember.
I have driven these women to junior colleges.
I have waited for these women outside financial aid offices.
I have encouraged these women to retain their dreams.
There is nothing more delightful or insightful
Than a woman who is fulfilled and enthusiastic about life.
Than a woman who is shining her light for all of the world to see
Let’s band together and encourage and inspire and raise these women.

Thunder Cats roared onto the cartoon scene in the Eighties.
Bringing forth SHE-roes and Heroes which was exciting for many.
My children probably enjoyed them, I do not remember.
This was during the time when TV was guiding them more than I was.
I was attending three colleges simultaneously
Trying to get a degree in something so I could make a living.
I do recognize the music of Thunder Cats
And I recognize the SHE-roe attitude in all three of my daughters.
I have a Thundercat shirt I wear sometimes to school.
As a reminder that my children not only survived
But thrived
Thanks to creative cartoonists
who decided to empower women in the eighties.
I wish they had been around twenty years earlier
When all we saw on TV were happy women wearing
pearls and full dresses, loving their washing machines and dryers.

Please clearly print your name
on the front of your mask. Cupid.
(Cupid is having a heck of a time this year. Not to forget all the other mishaps masks are causing. As a public service, I will just reiterate a few -- and please add some to my list as you become aware: CDC has just determined that Masks cause life threatening flatulence; per Fauci's recommendation, Pfizer is developing a new Posterior-mask – asking for volunteers with IBS to participate – Biden promises 100 billion masks by next Thanksgiving – he has issued an Executive Order banning all Chili-fests (Hear that Texas!) – Also, dental colleges in New York and Los Angeles are running dangerous low on masks with automatic floss attachments, Biden promising to order several Billion from reputable Chinese manufacturer in Wuhan. So, we really need to Brain-storm, here at Soup – it is our Civic Duty! Joe.)
