The Singer

The Peacock Punks
bide their time
in New York's finery
Their aegis ,Betty Davis eyes
follows them in no uncertain terms
The day is engrossed with snowflakes
There is serenity in the air
as the chanteuse
forgets her words
I sensed the silence
as a solitary butterfly flew past
I longed for my reward

A survey by “Rolling Stone”
Is so inconceivable... Celine Dion
The world renowned Quebec chanteuse
Was not included on the list
Of 200 of the world's greatest singers
Even Miley Cyrus was ranked above Celine
Seems like a major “fault pas” to me
In fact, it's downright absurd

Sex Appeal

How do we know it ends?
Or....did we end it?
We declare ourselves no longer
pretty or handsome!
Think...Edith Piaf.
{ her bio is online}
Edith married a way younger
man.

She was a French chanteuse.
Hardly ugly nor her face the
color of chartreuse.
I think tis we who make our
sex appeal end.
No matter how, what, why.
how or when.
We cast ourselves as "old.
No longer, a sexual being."
And, with that, we ourselves,
Are the creators of our own
sexual attractiveness undoing.

C'Est La Vie

C’est La Vie

I felt a feeling, intense joy
To meet you at our rendezvous
A bistro at our French cafe
We shared when in the midst of love

Prolonging in our ecstacy
You tapped my glass and sipped the wine
I stared into your blue green eyes
A unique color to behold

First saw you in that French cafe
My gallivanting was to cease
I swore my love forever more
To seal it for eternity

You sang on stage with such finesse
Your octaves sweet and yawning trills
A chanteuse with a gift so rare
I sat in awe to hear your voice

As time when on your voice was still
And your demeanor nonchalant
precarious what lay ahead
To acquiesce to your strange mood

Our love was just a fading song
My ego must continue on
Not look behind me as I go
And once again renew the spark

The Little Sparrow

(INSPIRED IN PART BY A SONG BY THE GREAT FRENCH 'SOUL SINGER', EDITH PIAF)

Should we praise the chanteuse
who sang "I regret nothing"?
Was she a saint or a sociopath?
Did she forget the peccadilloes,
the slights, the insults and harsh
words we are so prone to?

I regret so much, so very, very much:
the chanced shaking of another's heart,
the deafness to her tears, the blindness
to her unsung lamentations--
too much a coward to love,
I would run, run away,
even jumping an ocean to flee
what was between her and me....

Now, aging, I regret I cannot make
amends to those lost loves.
I cannot say, "I am sorry, I was weak,
in fear of your love--
forgive me... forgive me."

The Chanteuse and the Macho Honcho

They say he's lord of the drunken banter,
that dame who sings there's whom he's after;
he boasts aloud he can bag any broad
who strays into this smoky pub by the road.

He roars: "Hey, waiter, don't you block my view,
she smiles and sings exclusively for me
same songs of love that always sound so new,
she's really hooked on me as you can see."

"So, waiter, step aside and stay away,
just wish you were that guitar on her lap
or that mike upon her lips, but then, hey,
that's only in your groggiest dream, poor chap."

       "Here she comes, now just watch this macho man;
she'll surely sit here close to me, you'll see.
Hello, sweet babe, you got a sexy plan?
These cool dudes here won't mind, they'll let us be."

She smiles and stands close to the banter lord
and says to clear things up, just for the record:
She wants them all to meet the man of her life,
and he's this waiter here, and she's his wife!
