Oh enigma ...
Endless hours of twilight-daubed magic -
Enchanting walks 'side a moon-splattered sea,
Alight with silver doubloon wave-tops that mock the starry vault,
Toes pressed to the cool, pearly-soft hem of sand,
Imparting each other our deepest notions and dearest aims.
Then ... made a joke to your friends,
Grand laughs over drinks.
Oh paradox ...
Countless midday meadows, abounding -
Hazy summer days where tall goldenrod and foxglove
Curtsied the breeze above our bare backsides,
As if in honor of the sublime, tender, soul-sharing love we made
In the sweet, supple grasses that wove our blanket ...
Hot, breathy moans lost to the buzz of honeybees and hoppers.
Then ... made but a farce in passing,
A casual remark twisted for the sake of giggles.
Oh ambiguity ...
All those preciously amazing romantic escapades -
Priceless moments rare and real, that so few ever get to know ...
Made but fodder for your careless ego ... and I your fool.
Worst of all? I would do it ALL ... again.

He's a cool daddy. So Daddy Cool.
Daddy, Daddy, swing Daddy Cool!
Many follow his fashion rule.
Daddy's hip. And nobody's fool.
Dig Daddy. Dig Daddy's shades so dark!
Watch Daddy. Watch Daddy hit the mark!
Cool Daddy Cool with many a casual remark,
Daddy, Daddy is a waning spark.
Daddy dashing, and drop dead fine!
Daddy, Daddy, mellows as wine!
Daddy, cool Daddy, smooth and benign;
Deep and daring Daddy; pale sunshine.
So cool Daddy. Daddy Delight;
A bluebird in casual flight.
Daddy, Daddy--yeah, he's all right.
Daddy, Daddy, go out of sight!
Cool Daddy; cool as a dream;
Daddy, Daddy, a mountain stream.
Hip Daddy Cool, so jazzy he seem;
Daddy Cool Daddy is a silent scream!

I noticed her, she looked well bred
Enthusiastic eyes, sand wiped skin, dark
Trying hard to look casual
Then I saw her, looking thin
Worried eyes, forced smile, walking
Trying to look casual
One day she stopped me, asked me for a light
Flirtatious eyes, looking bright
She passed a casual remark
A year later I saw her, well bred with a black eye
Sitting on a door slab with a cigarette
I passed by, looking casual
I passed her by for days and nights
Until one night, two nights, she was gone

STRANGERS
I often watch as you walk by,
You and many others
Lost within your thoughts and plans
Within a sea of brothers
We are strangers you and I
We have never spoken
We stay locked within ourselves
Our privacy unbroken
Time has become our enemy
We never stop to see
We are surrounded by ourselves
My world is more then me
What if just once we were to stop
And watch for just a while
Those that pass us every day
And risk a simple smile
What if we were to say hello
And if our eyes should meet
Might we find that they respond
And the gesture they repeat
What if we risked a word or two
Or a casual remark
To find they are receptive
In conversation we embark
Might we find that our one smile
And those few words would tend
To cut across the silent void
And the strangers now a friend

Oh, mild flower I chanced to meet,
A ruby red, yet so discreet.
She'd never seen a hue my blue.
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
Her fragrance wafted on the breeze,
And all were drawn to her with ease.
I put down roots near her and grew.
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
Though in her garden all seems well,
there still are things she hates to tell.
Her thorns, a shield, conceal what's true.
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
Beneath her thorns, resentment grows.
Disturb her and her petals close!
I learned too well what could ensue. . .
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
A casual remark was said.
Her ruby rose turned scarlet red. . .
I guiltless pled. Did I misdo?
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
A fury she had kept so deep
had been unleashed; it made me weep.
Retaliation cut me through.
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.
A leaf of peace she offered me:
Be friends, but only partially.
But I refused and shall eschew
Sweet deathly rose that I once knew.

it's a point of interest, at least it is to me,
the power of a mother's utterance
on a child can surely be
my mom, for instance
once told me, when I was but a tot
never eat toadstools, those mushrooms,
cause good for you they're not
so as a result, and up till this very day
the idea of eating mushrooms
and no way will I ever sway
is as close to eating razors
or hornets on the fly
and I wonder how this is
I will wonder till I die
this is but one example
of the power of mom's word
so to mothers out there
I hope you really heard
think out the things you say
measure each with much care
today's casual remark
taken to heart by but a child
can repose for many years
with effects not always mild.
