Breadwinners Poems | Examples

Covid-19

You
Sat wherever you were
Spotted me breathing
Saw how happy I was
Scowled with jealousy
Slipped sputum with furry
Sed with an evil plan
Slithered all over surfaces
Scattered yourself everywhere
Spanned from arid to airborne

You
Set up an ambush
Sauntered into my body
Swam through my blood
Strolled in my bronchi
Slid into my cosy lungs
Slit my innocent throat
Slept conjugally inside
Started bearing children
Strangling was their game

You
Scrambled science facts
Suffocated the whole world
Squandered innocent lives
Snatched people's breaths
Separated friends from family fondness
Sabotaged their every touch
Some were fathers and mothers
Sons, daughters and breadwinners
Some were just about to
Spin things right for good

Since you are too blind
Seeing blindness is for your eyes
Sinning is your righteous act
Submerged in meanness
Sundays are the days you get
Sunday punches from you
Spray right in our faces
Spreading conspicuously
Soon you'll sing the nursery rhyme
'SEVEN DAYS MAKE A WEEK'

The Door Slams On Our Faces

The door slams on our faces
And shuts out our beauties, boasts and brains
Out there are bubbly buds tended with keen hands
That knew not any of our lures and lores
The wells of hope we thought of drawing from
Suddenly shut up its springs from us
The smiling cabin crew in line of duty
Ever playing hosts and toasts to welcomes
Now their dreadest fears embrace

Our buddies that planned to beat time
Suddenly had time outrun them to the finishing line
The pulpit man takes his turn to meet with his sermon
The shopper picks up an unbargained item in her cart
The family that had thought of a quick reunion
Suddenly had it postponed till afterlife
The goodbyes of breadwinners at the tarmac
Turns out as the last and final one
None death dared to rever
Not even for the love we shared

Warm Heart of Africa

The emptiness and unhappiness so closely related
Left her with a hole bigger than Kimberley.
No man dug fortune, only misconception and silence.
Her predecessors left her no gold to kick the dust off.
They only left deprivation and separation

she had children who truly loved her they all have abandoned her.
They all scattered in homes of different notions.
Some lost the native tongue
Some sought for knowledge a cure for the depression
The rest seek and extol gold day and night.

The breadwinners are ineffectual and fragile.
The ground has dried like the corn they desperately after.
Some harvest in ties while others eat with scavengers.
vultures camouflage themselves, the sun is bright outside.
Sheep's have hidden fangs that appear sometimes.

She was once a pillar of nations
A driving force, with a tale that was longer than Danyang–Kunshan Grand.
Tale became shorter due to sickness.

Death's Indiscriminate

Death never favours
Death does not discriminate between
Saints and sinners
losers and winners
Princes and paupers
followers or leaders
Dependents or
breadwinners
The fatter or thinner
Those who over ate of life's banquet
and those who austerely skipped its dinner.
Or the healed and the healers
the kinder or the meaner
The angels of death almost acting
as finders keepers
Today to lie in shrouds and coffins
yesterday's pall bearers
But many sigh with relief
when it kills the killers
It's upto us to part from the world
as loved good doers
Ah death may just knock
at anybody's lock.
Death is indiscriminate
yet curse it not
for it's a mere transition
to another new more perfect world
We didn't enjoy
coming into this world either
judging from all that bawling we did as newborns

When we're born we cry
but our folks happily rejoice
but we don't when we die
when our folks weep in mourning voice.
As human bones upon death gather dust
and are merged and lost in the earth's crust
The souls fly to heaven coz they must.

I Mourn For the Beginner 2

Who loves a beginner?
I DO
What counts except experience?
PASSION
In every aspect and field:
Of romance, writing and working
But where do you gain experience
Without a first chance?
YOU LEARN AND LEARN

Young novel writers
Can only reap in old age
If only they are lucky
To live long like crows
SOME DO NOT

What was that?
INDEED, IT WAS SOMETHING WORTH NOTING
Common comments
Of publishers, critics and guides
Indeed, a wise query
To awaken and fortify the beginners!
AND THEY SHOULD

Critics have muddied my land of birth
With contemptuous phrases
Is it really a literary desert?
GUILT?

What with this poor reading culture,
EXCUSE, EXCUSES!

But where are the books
From novel upcoming writers?
UNDER THEIR BEDS

Publishers exude words of hope
To beginners
In interviews and forums

Later?

What happened to yester day’s promises?
THEY ARE BUSY; IT IS HUMAN NATURE, YOU KNOW

Who adores beginners?
Will they survive to be breadwinners?
IT DEPENDS
