Death's Indiscriminate

Death never favours
Death does not discriminate between
Saints and sinners
losers and winners
Princes and paupers
followers or leaders
Dependents or
breadwinners
The fatter or thinner
Those who over ate of life's banquet
and those who austerely skipped its dinner.
Or the healed and the healers
the kinder or the meaner
The angels of death almost acting
as finders keepers
Today to lie in shrouds and coffins
yesterday's pall bearers
But many sigh with relief
when it kills the killers
It's upto us to part from the world
as loved good doers
Ah death may just knock
at anybody's lock.
Death is indiscriminate
yet curse it not
for it's a mere transition
to another new more perfect world
We didn't enjoy
coming into this world either
judging from all that bawling we did as newborns

When we're born we cry
but our folks happily rejoice
but we don't when we die
when our folks weep in mourning voice.
As human bones upon death gather dust
and are merged and lost in the earth's crust
The souls fly to heaven coz they must.

My own poem is an echo of yours. Well done. ...Oh death why are you painted so black you are white, a relief from hoary age and pain wracked days. you are life. The ego maligns you, calls you down. You are a door another change a movement on, not black. Not black as twisted priests would have. Not dark , not sin, not emptiness. You are the next stage, the new birthday show me, guide me, take me when my time comes but not before, let me have this to the end Let me love all of this as I love thee.

Death, the final frontier. The reason for living, the reason for some not living. You have said it well my friend. Allan

Nice concept of death. If only we could just stop and think for a while...everyone must die some people still live in this wonderful world of illusion. My motto is to treat everyone with love and forgive when we can. Forgive our enemies and those that use and mistreat us. That's the least we can do before we die. Thank you fro this beautiful reminder

Very nicely written! And you struck on the key concept: death ultimately has no power, and this is what renders its indiscriminate nature feasible. Reminds me of Dylan Thomas' "And Death Shall Have No Dominion."

So sorry, but I don't known Indian names by gender. My friend Nainesh's wife from Mumbai is named Vrusshtti, I believe, but I just call her rain.
