cascades of color
creates fragrance enigma
bougainvillea
purple sun pastime
and lushness now has a name
sangria dawn fame
peach noon honey glazed
lends sparkle to cherry blooms
like Mars sunset rooms
frozen beauty falls
just past the time of tulips
in gold sun closeups

Bougainvillea can be seen,
Across the island it is quite a scene.
It blooms in many vibrant colors,
With large clusters it empowers.
Making our senses come alive,
Briefly it holds our mind captive.
As it drapes over walls, fences and porches,
And even hung between arches.
It loves the vibrant summer’s hot sun,
Displaying a beauty which can never be outdone.
What I do not understand to this day,
Why was it not our national flower anyway?

Happy birthday, Anne Marinela,
A flower is in white array;
A beautiful bougainvillea
Is arranged in brilliant bouquet.

---varied petal hues
beauteous* with scarlet and pink
displaying God's art...
---white shines with pure tint
midst magenta's dominion
along hedge function...
---welcoming facade
bougainvillea canopy
radiant crimson.

No bougainvillea here,
Wind and wave-tossed shores
Know no such blossom.
What blooms next stormy seas
In western outposts far removed,
Unknown to sun-soft living ?
When silken purple drapes
The open sky, and folds of grey
And pastel blue hang mingled,
Dark-mirrored in the land below,
The daily reckoning may be heard,
Another storm from off the ocean,
Or might the sombre grey dissolve,
Transformed with silvered promise
Of brighter lengthening days ?
For when the earth relents,
As now it surely must,
A universal sigh is breathed
Across the waiting dormant land.
As expectation stirs, the great unveiling.
A curtain raised upon a glorious stage,
As now the islands of the west
With wondrous spectacle are blessed.
To my mind, and for what it's worth,
The flowering of the machair
Is the greatest show on earth.

Sunflowers are black and yellow
You’re a damn cute fellow
Our hands intertwined on the cello
With you, I want to sing the Sh-ha-shallow
Bougainvillea are purple and pink
Let me take you out for a drink
Together our glasses will clink
Oh, you make my heart sink!

Bougainvillea
15 April 2019
I still remember the pink hue of the
bougainvillea flowers just outside my window
greeting me, each morning as I brush aside the curtains
and let the glorious rays of sun paint my room
in a streak of golden yellow.
Like pieces of art, little and precise
simple yet meaningful, I admire those
soft, blushing petals.
These long vines and thorns lining
in natural perfection its leaves and flowers, teach me
that hidden in my failures and obstacles
I may find beauty and glory, and I may start anew
with my new-found inspiration from these
works of untouched and
untouchable art,
for which I find myself
eternally grateful.

Some orange, purple and magenta...
Some crimson, yellow, red...
Cascade walls in soft rainbow shades.
Fountain of colors flow rooftop to balcony,
parapets and gates in gorgeous radiance.
An awestruck seduced bumblebee,
in abundance of pink champagne, cried
"My god, you are so beautiful"....
The bougainvillea vine, a triplet cluster,
unassuming small petals, dull, pale, white.
"With no fragrance in my poor heart within,
only a cosmetic trick of colorful bracts.
Leaves in disguise show off bright camouflage,
beacon butterflies, they come close to me.
Paper glamour withers, brittle, soft, thin,
My beauty is deep, only up to skin !"

One corner house in my street,
Where grows sepal like
Lovely, light, bougainvillea
Spread like a white sheet.
Overflows upon the compound wall
Attracts each and every passersby
Densely, bounty bougainvillea
is like a creamy froth about to fall.
On this brightly white flowers
Insects creep, dew settles, twinkles flash
Adding glow to rich bougainvillea
Like a touch of sea breeze on cold hours.

There beside her in Cornish Wales,
like a fairy in pixie tales,
flew down the water's fall.
A water pall off the granite wall.
A waterfall wreathed in Bougainvillea.
There we sat in the highland haze,
where mists surrounds us like a maze,
for our heads to swell in,
and focused our grins,
while we were around our breezes and showers.
Where the waterfalls turns pinks and greens from Bougainvillea.
The full blossom and the summer breeze
in which that moment haunts my memories.
And there where the mists linger forever,
in the midst of the mists we shared a kiss,
While the late noon moon did bless,
us smelling the fresh leaves and buds of Bougainvillea.
See, she wore the flowers,
which excites and empowers,
and I wrapped some around her head.
She took my head instead
and kissed me the longer.
Her flower's scents empowered me stronger
and my hands next to hers.
In that time we had breathing in the Bougainvillea.

Bold, bright...unmistakable
she dresses in vivid pinks or purples
sometimes splashes of oranges or golds.
Her lavish flashes of flowers shine
and yet...
…brilliant bougainvillea has
her dark secrets.
Devoid of fragrance
this fanfare, flowery mistress
hides her hidden thorns...
…to touch her is
to become entangled
cut to the quick
scraped and bloodied
without warning
though careful one may be.
Beauty prevails over pain
as paper petals flirt and entice
all dressed up in pageantry
a multitude of sins are covered.
Bougainvillea lights up
the heated climate
flinging caution to the wind.

The bride’s inflorescent bouquet, cascading —
a tropical tease of Chamorro charm
in the Marianas Islands.
A circular celebration arch
of bougainvillea and golden wedding bands,
preened and prepared, to love and cherish.
The handsome groom clasps the bride’s hand
as they step into the infinity ring.
Their breathing entwined with sunshine and seashells.
Her dark, Guamanian skin
and sleek ebony hair, surrounded by Red Hot,
California Gold and Sundown Orange blossoms.
The honeysuckle-scent of paper flowers,
intoxicating —
ruminating with romance.
The Pacific Islanders,
bare feet in tan sand,
release the coconut essence of their vows.
The grand reception at the hotel, in moonlight hours,
near the ancient wall, kissing blossoms and bracts.

This Spring I noticed
while looking out into the garden
from my kitchen window
The Bougainvillea tree in a shade of bright beautiful pink
Attracting birds, bees and butterflies
Braving the strong winds of the cloudy sea-sky
Standing so pretty
And I wondered
What if I were a Bougainvillea
So common, so poignant
Yet so attractive to those who understand my worth
Every beautiful creation of nature must come with thorns
Just like a human being must come with imperfections
Am I dreaming of a long life filled with shades of pink?
Am I that Bougainvillea that is sometimes ignored
I am not a Bougainvillea, but,
I want to be.
