Ambitious treasure seekers on a pirate ship
They bob up and down as the waves give a dip.
We see them coming, and we give a loud shout.
Giving them a hooray and hoorah from our homes no doubt.
We know they have money in the forms of silver and gold.
They came to the coast to gamble – both young and old.
We open our blackjack stations and light our casino sign.
If there is any real big spender, I hope she comes to mine.

The setting sun of Sitka cut through the sky
like a dull knife
to reveal a watercolor wash of bright colors
that lay upon a backdrop of blue canvas
where my eyes of wondrous wonder
sweeps across the sky
like a summer breeze bends meadow grass
to and fro
I see ships in the harbor bob up and down
in rhythmic motion, as they bounce against the dock
like two cymbals coming together
before the night crushes the sky's colored ash
in a display of darkness
that drapes the harbor in silence
as the sun disappears with the red-threaded horizon

one more revolution completed
another birthday
an ongoing process of ageing
sometimes with grace
at others with weight on my shoulders
minding the gap
between emotions and reason
tearing at what needs to be
occasionally becoming one with myself
a milestone although I prefer
to think metric
simply because shorter steps
are easier to take to reach
one target or so at the time
many of them unplanned
but the intention keeps me at bay
where the ship can anchor
sails can be set
the rudder is mobile
flares shoot up and down
maps are charted and lost
the compass magnetic whatever it takes
graphs and outlines drawn in pencil
because charcoal resists the rain
although smudges are beautiful
and it takes an eraser
to change course
and master the waves
whose tides are present eve
when the surface feels flat
like a cork from a bottle
I bob up and down
float swallow and drift
as a small fleck in the Universe
what matters is the path
from sadness to joy
sorrow to contentment
grief to elation
around in circles of impermanence
perspective growth and
my lover’s gentle caress

hop on board my carousel of thoughts
where wild ideas bob up and down
theories hang on tight for dear life
some die on the vine; others run rife
tabulate all data collected
frame it in pie-chart form
make sure it fits my narrative
truth today, whatever conforms

Ducks line up behind Mommy
swimming all in a perfect row
Kids build sand castles
precariously balanced, just so
Red-and-white bobbers bob up and down
to the rhythm of fishermen's strings
Bronzed bodies gaze upwards, supine
sun-worshiping, midst other things...
Another endless, lazy summer's day
for a privileged nation, whose idle play
While in distant lands, far away
ghastly towers of war and famine sway...

We are a plethora of flavors,
Bubbling in a silver crockpot
Seductively salty, carrot friendly,
Our potatoes cut in squarest chunks.
We bob up, and see our reflection in an oval lid.
Huge woman plops a spoon in our swirling liquid.
She takes a slurp of us. Stirs in an extra bunch
Of cut tomatoes. Our carrots back off,
Allowing the red chunks the necessary space to sink.
Happily steaming, simmering, we are soon poured into bowls
Our peas and broth wink when we see our friend,
Cornbread, oozing with melted honey butter on a blue plate
Next to our matching blue resting bowl.
Being consumed with cornbread is preferable
To being swallowed with those salty pointed crackers.
The whole family feels appreciated and loved. Cornbread winks.
Giants will be sleeping soon. Feeling the gentle rise and fall
of their warm tummies we will laugh, and dance and sing,
Proud that we are responsible for their satisfactory sleep.

You bob up and down
In the vast blue sea
Standard and alone
Chilled to the bone
Can’t feel your legs
Finger all numb
As you pray to god for someone to come
Too painful to cry
No energy to shout
Pretty clear time is running out
Thinking of your family
All of your friends
life slowly coming to a bitter end
with no fight left and nowhere to go
stuck in the tide tossing to and throw
the mistress has been kind to you this day
pushing you close to a sandy bay
a fishing man spots you pulls you to the Shaw
holds you in his arms wipes the sand from your face
you truly won’t forget this wonderful place

Gentle ripples on the water
Set in motion by a slight breeze
Move quietly on the pond's surface
With gracefulness and effortless ease
A fishing bird flies in suddenly
Skimming the pond's surface with its feet
Then dives headfirst into the water
In its search of a meal to eat
Something just broke the water's surface
Forcing me to full attention
I can see now an eye and the nose
Of a fledgling baby caiman
A bird's neck appears from the water
In its beak, there's a struggling fish
One gulp and the fish disappears
That was indeed a tasty dish
Water lily pads bob up and down
In harmony with the rippling water
Their crimson blooms standing upright
Sprinkled among the lilies cluster
Feeding close to the water's edge
There's a roving group of small fishes
They nibble on the morsels they find
Among roots of water grasses
I treasure sitting here in silence
Observing the pond in its glory
It fills me with such peacefulness
And deep feelings of tranquillity

I am the sun burning bright
I give your planet heat and light
In the morning, when I rise
Throughout the day, across the sky
I’m made of plasma, super heated
Hydrogen and helium fused, repeated
My core is white hot, from this nuclear fusion
Mass energy stored for my distribution
I travel so fast I bob up and down
My solar wind spreads like fire around
Light travels to you, at a great speed
Making the plants grow, replenishing the trees
I’m good for your bones, but tough on your skin
So try to remember, don’t where your cream thin
Get the right factor for your special needs
As I don’t want to burn you
I’m begging you please!
My time has come, and I must go down
To shine my rays on some other town
I’ll be back tomorrow at the same time
For I am the sun, I forever shine

Lazy spring day
Sitting on the lake bank
Watching the cork bob up and down
Hoping to catch a fish
thinking about lifes what ifs
Smack!--Killed that biting bug
No more movement
Reel 'er in and check the bait
No bait, ouch!! stuck my finger with the hook
Enjoying fishing today
