Premium MemberScared and Alone

"I have been a stranger in a strange land." Bible, Exodus 2:22

Strange and shy
Strange and scared
Scared at home
Scared at school
School is frightening
School is scary
Scary kids
Scary teachers
Teachers might disapprove
Teachers might yell
Yell at a mistake
Yell at a false move
Move apart
Move away
Away from trouble
Away from fear
Fear of boys
Fear of girls
Girls tease
Girls laugh
Laugh at my clothes
Laugh at my red face
Face the music
Face the big boys
Boys who fight
Boys who strike
Strike three
Strike out
Out of range
Out of danger
Danger here
Danger there
There a landmine
There a snare
Snare a rabbit
Snare a kid
Kid at 12 o'clock
Kid on the playground
Playground threats
Playground bullies
Bullies loom
Bullies go away
Away from people
Away and alone
Alone is safe
Alone is lonely
Lonely...
Safe...

Rainy Day Repetition

Rainy Day Repetition
(26-line Blitz, adapted for teaching young poets the structure)

Write fifty things
Write about rain
Rain that falls
Rain that splashes
Splashes my umbrella
Splashes when I stomp
Stomp in any puddle
Stomp in every puddle
Puddle in the gutter
Puddle near the park
Park is nearly empty
Park is fully wet
Wet and damp and slippery
Wet all day it seems
Seems like a perfect day
Seems I’ll have my way
Way to go nature!
Way to cancel school
School can wait for sunshine
School must wait to dry
Dry enough for books
Dry enough for papers
Papers can’t get mushy
Papers must be crisp
Crisp chill in the air
Air smells like spring

Tree Talk

We are taught that
A line of time
Is the dimension which
Orders our lives..
This school lesson
Assumed and forgotten..

Until experience rebels
When we are shown a
Cross-section of a tree..
With radials and circles
Appearing here at Once..
Experience delivers relief...

Hungry In School

Today I am hungry
I can hear noises rumbling
In my tummy
I'm stuck in school.

I am sitting here in class
Not working very fast
Though I must do this task
To earn points for writing class
I'm stuck in school.

Soon I can go to lunch
Then, there will be a crunch
When I eat a bunch
I'm stuck in school.

Our Inadequacies

Beyond the horizons of our doubts, we wandered,
For we were blinded by the obsession that confronts us with the shame of illiteracy,
For this cause, we sailed on the ocean of knowledge,
Not even for the love of it.
Rather, in search for fame, wealth, societal respect and social strata
We were those intoxicated by the slogan “go to school, and get rich”
All we ever wanted was to be successful, the only one desire that besieged our hearts.

Suddenly, we mutated into men.
Men who were forced by their desires to read books,
Books they knew nothing about and had little interest on.
All day long,
The purpose flourished in our memories.
To us, it was an adventure, and we dared it.
Never for once did our hearts tarry.

But long after our educated years,
The path to true success feasted on our inadequacies
For we have become only but uneducated men, dressed in the attires of literates.
Though, we declare we are educated,
Yet our knowledge is bankrupt.
For we were schooled, and not educated.

Perfect Girl

Went to learn
Went to school
Got all A's
Got great things
Found a college
Found some friends
We all applied
We all got in
Continued school
Continued life
Lost a job
Lost control
Grew afraid
Grew anxious
Locked myself away
Locked my hobbies
Up again
Up all day
Plucking hair
Plucking away fear
Applied for a job
Applied again
Didn't get accepted
Didn't get in
Deep breath
Deep moans
Run away
Run on home
Hid for a while
Hid from life
Escaped the truth
Escaped from strife
Suppose I'll come back
Suppose I'll try again
Maybe tomorrow
Maybe give in
Seemingly perfect
Seemingly fair
Life is strict
Life is square.
Try one more time
Try for myself
Urged on by family
Urged on in want of wealth
Completely unchanged
Completely stagnant
Tears leave stains
Tears evaporated
Perfect child
Perfect flaws
Child...
Flaws...

The Social Network Prey

Social network stances a spider’s web today
Once trapped you are slaved for life all the way

Where you see a virtual world of “Likes” to display
Showcasing how life is better in each ones day

Where friends are just numbers and not people in real
Disremembering that life was once, precious as a pearl

Just like days of play where football and pool was so much fun
But pronto amid the “Social Network” all the games are dead and done

As children are glued to tablets and phones
Spoiling their lives before going to school

Coz technology has taken over the veracious of parents to say
The social network today has it’s own gateway

For no longer “I love you” is more then a say
As “Love” on the social network is a fashion to prey

Where friend’s comments can make or break your day
You are slaved to technology and it’s stupid ways

For some rich ass had made this network his own gateway
My friend you are slaved to the social network all the way

Where “Likes” are part of what others say
In the end we all fall to this quadruped and become it’s “Play”
