Grow Where You’re Planted
Written: by Tom Wright
February 2015
Leaves displaying the colors,
Of a painter’s palette,
Came gyrating,
Aimlessly toward the ground;
While raking, I mused,
If I lived in the desert,
There’d be no leaves beneath my feet.
Then upon intellection,
Nor trees to provide me shade,
From the desert’s scorching heat;
You’re Laughing Alone
By
Tom Wright
My friends all told me that I was witty,
So from Haskell I headed for the city.
First, a comedy club floor,
Then out the back door,
For my monologue I received only pity.
I enjoyed our moments together, everything about really did matter. You’re not the 1.
The nice walks I had with you was so much fun, even the warm hugs you gave to me when there was no sun. You’re not the 1.
You were always here and there for me through out the bad and stormy weather, you’re kisses felt like I was being tickle with a feather. You’re not the 1.
My times I spent playing cards with you made me feel very good inside, I just kept dreams of becoming your bride. You’re not the 1.
Love was everything I gave to you, my mom found you very interesting which she didn’t care to find even within a few. You’re not the 1.
At first you’re here, now you’re not here.
You’re on a time schedule, I see you every so and so.
Its the same reoccurring, non-assuring facade of
emotion; logic’s evil twin wrapped in sugar whispering sweet
nothings.
All the while stirring up episodic dreams:
When it is good, time is ignored.
When it is bad, time is watched.
Acceptance sets in.
Just as quick as it came, fate claims
its name again. And the good and bad become olden times.
I hit rewind
At first you’re here
I have filled my mind with things unreal
and my heart with affections unsafe.
I can’t help but smile when I see your face.
You’re killing me with each and every embrace.
Well and you are one of a kind
There’s no one in the world like you
I know 'cuz you lift me up so high
When I’m down so low...
That's why you’re My Hero and I
Know I ain't got nothing to fear
When you are around 'cuz
Not even the Lone Ranger has
Nothing on you and not even
Superman can do the things you do,
You've saved me from myself many
Countless times don't you know?
That’s why you’re My Hero!
What in the world would I do?
Without you, you are my saving
Grace quite surely,
God must have known I would come
To need you and sent you to me
Now there's no shadow of a doubt,
No real reason to be afraid with you
In my life everything will always
Work its way out 'cuz
You're My Hero, my friend and
My hero, don't you know...
You have saved me from myself
Many countless times and allowed
Me to live to see another tomorrow
That's why you’re my Hero,
Yes You Are My Hero!
How strange it is to be anything at all
We all hope to grow up,
Big and Tall
But as the bird spreads his wings
And learns to fly
His soul sometimes dies a little inside.
He is growing up and he is scared
He is full, of the fear
But not to worry child
The fear is something most of us have, we learned from it well
Don’t get caught in the place you used to call hell
Make things better; prevail
Show them all what you’re made of
Show them the fire that grows inside your heart
You may not see it but your glowing.
You illuminate the darkness;
You are your own hero
You never gave up the fight
Hold your head high son, you’re doing alright
Don’t let them steal your soul
Your value is worth more than gold.
I Want To Be Youre Girl
Forget all the talking
Look at me and listen to me
Let them talk all they want
I want to be your girl all in all
I understand it all
Let me in, I’m not pushing hard
I just want us, to fall in love
I just feel, that everything, was meant to be
I know what you’re going through
I understand, part of what your going through
(Course)
Oh, I want to be your girl
Hold you tight
I don’t want to let you go
Everyone’s talking, I can see
Of what I have done but, it’s plain to see
If you believe, we can be friends you see
No more, heart ach, No more cry’s
I just want love
(Course)
Oh, I want to be your girl
Hold you tight
I don’t want to let you go
Even if you’re not at my side
I’ll let you go
No tricks or jokes
You have a choice
Love me or leave me
It’s up to you
(Course)
Oh, I want to be your girl
Hold you tight
I don’t want to let you go
Make the choice
I’m waiting
Cant you see, I’m wondering
Please tell me
Show me that you love me
(Course)
Oh, I want to be your girl
Hold you tight
I don’t want to let you go

You’re Secret is Safe
Written: by Tom Wright
February 2015
None know the secrets of our Grandfather clock
It stands mostly quiet, in its niche,
In our great room;
As if camouflaged, it observes all goings on,
While eavesdropping on every conversation;
It never betrays any secrets, and most times,
Won’t give you the time of day,
And be truthful about it.
yall did it for the gram,
and hid it from the fam
jilted on the glam
i filtered out the jam
i see you in a scam
not even with a plan
blowing all your yams
to quicken drowning in a can
sticking in the pan
the plot thicken in a span
i was missing in a scan
now i listen to the sands
pick a part a pattern
of perceiving ill be damned
when i started gathering
the pieces
all the reason helped me stand
poking passed the ceiling
and all the feeling i really had
hate to say it now
but its reminding me of dad
avoid the void your filling
and the milling getting bad
grinding out but stealing
your opportunity is sad
for every step in progress
youre going right into a bag
hamster on a treadmill
to the landfill built with slag
I was always told to claim what you are
And I was always told to not settle for par.
For better or for worse, self is to soul married
Prose or perfect verse, words and actions will be carried.
To follow you, the heart, the piece of all that is, trying to come home,
To be true, from the start to who you are til you return to sea foam.
Be misaligned is an influence malign to keep me from my lines.
But the confines of sidelines keeping me and mines from penning from wines
Surely introduces trying times.
When I’m without rhymes.
When I’m not disloyal to me and my poet
But my heart disagrees, so my hand; it slows it.
The mistake is made when I can’t find my pen
Or when I just don’t feel like I am who I’ve been.
Not disloyal, just not me.
Less than royal, with no crown to see.
Prince in spirit, ordinarily, not a king
But a page clear, it strips me of even a noble’s ring.
I can’t make excuses, it’s not something I’ve been taught.
Because I am made of mistakes and learnings; excuses, I am not.
Well and You're Crazy if you
think I'm gonna let you bring me
down again, if you think you
can just come back into my life
after being gone so long and
expect me to take you back
just like that...You're Crazy
if you think I'm still in love with
you after all the hell you put
me through , You're Crazy
You're Crazy baby if you think
I'm gonna let you bring me
down again and just forgive
and forget and start all over
again...well You're Crazy
you're just freaking crazy
So want you just get out of
my life once and for all...there
ain't nothing left to be said so
stop asking me if you can call
when will you get it through
your hard head there's just
nothing left to be said except
You're Crazy if you think I'm
gonna let you bring me
down again, if you think you
can just come back into my life
after being gone so long and
expect me to take you back
just like that, if you think I'm still
in love with you after all the hell
you put me through You're Crazy
You're just as Crazy as a loon
something of a Bevis and
Butthead cartoon...I don't need
your childish games, I’m no
longer the same innocent victim
you once had on a ball and chain
and I'd be completely insane if
I let you put me through that hell
again so if you think I'm gonna let
you bring me down again, if you
think you can just come back into
my life after being gone so long and
expect me to take you back
just like that...You're Crazy
you're one hell of a crazy ass
froot loop!
March 2nd is the birthday of Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss so,
having grown up with his wonderful works, I've written a little tribute:
Happy Birthday Theodore Geisel,
here’s a meditation mat, made of sisal;
I bought it in Mexico for your last birthday
but, you’re number was up and you went away.
Although it’s belated, it fits your stone well;
though you probably don’t need it, where you now dwell.
You gave us such joy with your, “Cat In The Hat”;
he just charmed everyone, including the bats.
“Green Eggs And Ham”, we ate at our school,
every St. Patty’s day, it was the cook’s rule!
You taught us life lessons with a “Who’s” call;
that "A person's a person, no matter how small."
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better, It's not."
That Lorax was wise as the wisest old owl;
yet he truly was, not a flying fowl!
Without the Grinch, in our lives each Christmas,
generosity never ever, would go the distance.
You made children smile, spread caboodles and oodles;
of happiness, joy and colorful doodles.
So please accept this belated gift;
know through your books we still sift
and revel in the joys and laughter you’ve spread;
as we read children to sleep in their beds.
The pains I feel in my heart
The pains I feel in my bone marrows
strikes me everyday
I spent a lot of time,
energy
money and passion on you
But all you paid me with was regrets, hate and evil
I invested a lot in you
I gave you all I could
You were never grateful
One day I met you on the street
I asked a simple question,
''Why do you reject all my calls''
You looked at me straight in the eyes
You told me ''I worth nothing to you''
You are such an ingrate
I invested a lot in your education
I sacrificed a lot for you
this is what you pay me back with.
Well, in all I forgive you.

Hey Dude,
You’re A Human Lightening Rod
By: Tom Wright
2005
You’ve Studs in your eyebrows, a spike in your hair
Your tongue is pierced causing me to stare.
You resemble a lampshade but give me no fear
At the first sound of thunder, I’m out of here.
