The Aberdare Ranges Kenya

Dawn, when silence falters
And the trees of the range-
Are tucked in a bucket of fog
Marching dawn, whose beauty never alters,
I tuck myself in blankets like a log
At the Treetops Hotel upon the range
Dainty dreams upon dawn’s altar

The dappled peacock dazes the dawn
While the African crowned eagle
Will soar, prowling for prey
And tourists peep and picture the fawn
While their eyes prowl the breakfast tray
Jacaranda festooned fashion regal
Its blue flowers blue snowfall upon dawn

Elephants trudge to the watering hole
Buffalo follow, even the bush buck
The warthog always walks silly,
The big five will steal your soul
At the Ark's perch, you will be stuck
The water adorned by the pond lily
The range's serenity, waters your soul

Pristine streams gush from the moorlands
The Hagenia, decked in velvet green
The sword lily, sheathed in fibrous tunic
And as the Karuru falls hit land
True love will pierce to the gene
For pristine nature, is the true cupid.
Breaths bated as lovers hold hand

Further, nestled nigh in the blue skies
The Kinangop peak, peeking through
The closer I get, the further it hides
A sun bird chatters, along my trail's high
My eyes in tune, such wondrous hillsides
I sweat as I head towards the bamboo
I am among the butterflies

Ringlets in a dance, oh! Surreal world
Monkeys swing, tree to tree, a trail of imagination
A reed buck is openly grazing
A canvas of the grassland in its gold
I spot a Serval cat, in hiding
On a safari truck, the breeze is an inspiration
Beauty flows in the altitudes that I behold

At dusk the steeped villages prepare for sleep
The Nyandarua range, yawns its last
Fabled home of the Kikuyu god
Curtain like shadows befall the steep
And this wonderland begins to nod
As the women fluff off days dust fast
Men’s ears wide open as it darkens deep

Wild animals are known to visit
Roving around, excitement for the young
But the animals are known to visit hungry
The locals know too well, memories vivid
An elephant’s wrath is meted out bluntly
Protection for man and beast not far flung
Conservation and nurture is the spirit

As Mount Satima watches her watered floors,
She knows the heart goes deep

We are off on a long DRIVE to see the famous, re-known big FIVE,
Three hours later at the Kruger National Park we safely arrive,
And cruise among predatory country, beautiful, colorful wildlife,
Full of LIFE the two of us, my husband and his very excited WIFE.

We see a pride of LIONS, and park next to a tour bus of HAWAIIANS,
They seem ecstatic, cameras clicking, among them Uruguayans,
They follow us, as they seem to think we will know where to go,
Continue over a bridge SLOW, see crocodiles drifting with the river FLOW.

Still the tour BUS continues and winds its way whenever they see US,
We see cheetah, leopards, a herd of elephants, an absolute plus,
We stop, the tour bus stops too, at a waterhole, but leave, close by are bees,
We spot rhinos, baboons, eagles perched on TREES, a warthog on its KNEES!

The tourist’s excitement contagious and SPILLS, we come across horn BILLS,
Big birds, the secretary bird, Goliath herons, but the horn bills by the hills,
Excite them the most, we had befriended each other and my husband said,
These birds don't FLY, upon which they flew off towards the SKY, hubby so red!

Gamophobia

I thought it was a bed of roses,
I knew it was a gallery of smiles,
I saw marriage a sweetest thing,
Full of love, trust and well being,
I never imagined otherwise.

All in me changed completely,
When a couple parted ways,
The wife narrated the whole story,
She remembered the torture,pain
And how her husband maimed her daily.

She told me how he was full of infidelity,
She showed me scars all over her body,
She even recalled how she almost lost life,
Marriage to her was just a rite of pain passage,
Her husband was only a warthog in a sheep skin.

Am afraid,am sad,I have lost interest,
If marriage is all about this, let it be,
None will torture my feelings when single,
None will cheat on me and hurt my feelings,
Marriage is harsh,I fear it.

Road Rage

I board my little metal box early in the dawn,
Adjust my seat, fix my mirror, turn the stereo on,
I love the drive, I live for the day,
And I am generally accepting,
Of all those little experiences,
Life shares with me along the way.

Check my mirrors, watch my speed,
Keep that safe distance that all drivers need,
Tense up my neck, stare into the next car,
Give people intense looks from near, and from afar.
All of the sudden, something within me jumps out,
Did I just curse, did I actually shout?

I’m only going from here to there, just a simple commute,
But there is a collective static that I cannot dispute,
As I glance at the other drivers, with that protruding vein,
From all of the anger, stress, and strain.
They all look like the angry guy in my mirror,
That is staring them right back again.

Break checking, tail gating, horns blowing,
And all of those one fingered salutes,
That my fellow drivers are showing.
Have I lost my mind? Is the traffic beginning to slow?,
Did I just call that little old lady,
A bloated warthog for not staying with the flow?

I finally reached my destination and my patience is gone,
My nerves shot, my anger boiling over, as the day wears on.
Why Oh why do I love to drive,
When just getting there wrecks my day?
I cant point the finger and blame others for my anger,
When I reacted in exactly the same way.

There is a solution to this though,
There is more than one way out,
There is a way to have a good day to this you may score,
Have others drive so you can talk,
Leave earlier and walk,
And of course, that is what a bus route is for.

The Dinner Party

The elephants were feeling down
As pachyderms oft do.
The cockatiels were quite depressed
The chimpanzees were too.

The mood among the jungle crowd
Was in short quite low,
When a young Hyena yelled,
“I’ve got guys, I know!”

We should throw a dinner Party
To stop us feeling dismal,
But please don’t ask the vultures round
Their manners are abysmal.

“Splendid!” called the warthog,
Very much excited,
“How will we let the others know
That they’ve been invited?”

“Easy!” cried a young gazelle,
Getting rather heated.
“Tell the parrot who should come,
He’ll find them and repeat it.”

“What shall we eat?” exclaimed giraffe,
“I tell you, that’s the question.
‘Cos if I have the tigers grub
Then I’ll get indigestion!”

“Who’s invited needs more thought.”
The wildebeest all said.
If we ask the lions round
They’ll eat us up instead.”

“What ssshall I wear I asssk you all?”
They heard a grass snake cry.
“The monkeysss might all fit in ssssuits,
But how on earth will I?”

“We’ll never find the table cloth.”
“And who will do the dishes?”
“We’re running short of cutlery.”
“Where will we sit the fishes?”

They argued on all through the night,
But came to no conclusion,
And in the end forgot their plans
Amidst all their confusion.

Lessons of Nature

Yesterday I learnt,
A beautiful something,
I learnt the peace,
That does not cease,
The breeze,
Clothed in nature's green,
The comfort,
Draped in nature's brown,
Through the woods,
Into the caves,
Over the bridges,
The sweet waters flowing,
Whispering gently,
Music,
That soothes the soul,
Impregnates the face,
With a broad twin lipped smile,
Crackling fires,
Rising smoke,
Embracing tightly,
The sun's rays,
Filtering through,
The swinging boughs,
Bathing rocks,
Swimming twigs,
Camera clicks,
Capturing the joys,
Of the moment,
Please fly me back,
I want to learn on,
Learn the love,
That binds the giraffe,
And the warthog,
The canopies,
And the blue skies,
The streams,
And the bamboos,
The monkeys,
And the trees,
The marshes,
And the rocks,
And above all,
The strength of nature,
The impact it imparts,
The bond it creates,
Between the creator,
And His creation,
Fly me back,
And let me learn on..

You're a horse with an idiot paint job,
all zig-zaggy blacketty-white
you stand out when you're in a snowdrift
and can't even hide in the night.
Outrunning a Cheetah you canna
not graceful like any Gazelle
for living out on the Savanna
your life must be probably hell.
I once tried your flesh on Safari
at a camp where we had barbecue
so to add insult to injury
ugly Warthog tastes better than you.

Animal Talk

when I open the eyes, and squint properly
From above the Chetambe, and watch around fairly
I think is a nice , but together spent rarely
I want to chat you Mr Elephant, but then shed the ticks

You say I am giraffe, and claim am tall
When you talk me you say, stretch time not firm
I convince and say come when , you admit and say okay
I want to chat you Mr Elephant, but your ticks stick

You call me Mr Owl, ugly and ugly you say
That my flight of all, can't get near your size
I convince and say favour, you say yes but no we
I want to chat you Mr Elephant, but your ticks tear

You call me warthog, myself you term ugly
My mouth you laugh at, and run over my children
You consider the giraffe, for tallness and size
I want to chat you Mr Elephant, though your ticks no means

Listen for this is golden, the jungle is never
Ever hope that each token, for all and all for
All cannot belong to one, all we join for favour
Time to chat time to chat, every cloud has a silver lining

Hurt My Darling

Tell me if it is true,
She too has a heart that can hurt
Hurt her for me, Hurt that girl
And I will saunter to soothe her
But don’t harm her, it hurts
I need my first words felt in the heat
My fountain spilling ink in her heart
Hurt her heart

My eyes run into hers, I surrender
My courage deems, yet I solder
Stare back and scare
Yet I mean to be man, this girl
I care, I swear, and there
I lose it, hurt; I want her to listen
Our souls echo; hearts beat and eyes mate

Hurt that girl
Tell her the drunken spit
Hair like half a tooth brush
Skin like a porcupine, come on
Hog, bad bacon
A bother, why bother?
Call her hyena’s canine
Kin of the warthog, imbalanced buttock
Go, hurt her ego and go

Yes, I know, I kowtow
Her silk, sweet hair, I blush in layers
Her skin is keen, no pin,
I dare not listen to her, she pinches
She’s baby, that girl is lucky
Sweet goodness, tell her for me I’m on the way
To tell her for you, Sweet girl
You made her for me!

But I have no way
Hurt that girl, I’m on my way
Hurt my darling.

I'D Rather Freeze!

HER:
I'm on this blind date.

HIM:
(Baby, it's cold outside).

HER:
This date AIN'T so great!

HIM:
(Baby, it's cold outside).

HER:
I'd rather be home...
and watch paint dry!

It takes me five hours to get ready!
My Dior dress looks sexy and chic!
This half-wit is dressed in a teddy -
my best friend set me up with a freak!

HER:
We sit down to eat.

HIM:
(Baby, you look so fine).

HER:
His breath smells like feet!

HIM:
(Wishing that you were mine).

HER:
If I pass some gas -
will this jerk leave?

His manners and looks are atrocious -
and broccoli is caught in his tooth!
I'm sorry if I sound precocious:
but he makes a wild warthog seem couth!

HER:
I've got to get home.

HIM:
(Baby, it's cold out there).

HER: (thinking)
You short, KNOCK-KNEED gnome!

HIM:
(Oh, the scent of your hair...).

HER:
I really do think...
this night is done!

You may be a nice beast for someone?
But I'm not the Shrek-ess whom you seek.
My "best friend" will surely adore you -
and entertain you into next week!

HER & HIM:
Baby, it's cold outside!

Sung to the tune of: Baby, it's cold outside!

Tears of the Unborn Child

Incoming to live
I died unborn, and
I don't know if I did
Something wrong.

Don't play on being bemused
Mom,
As I'm gone
Now.

Why the killing of the unknown me
I also did not know you
Nor the world's beauty,
You know I'm true.

I was assured to life by two
Participants, you and dad
I took all the believe I had,
For you mom are to give birth.

I thought I was under warthog
Shadow, therefore not vulnerable,
Not knowing you wanted me gone,
Now I'm not available,
Honestly you're not responsible.

You terminated my life,
Did abortion,
And I'm now abortive,
Failed to cruise to living.
I died unborn.

Africa

The land of Baobab and Acacia sassa trees
The proud land of our forefathers.
The home of the fastest animal on earth - Cheetah
The oldest inhabited territory on Earth,
Who handed treasure of wisdom down to us
The most-populous landmass.

The place of origin of humans and the Hominidae clade.
The land of the the most abundant antelope, the impala
The land of sunshine and bird songs
Cut almost equally in two by the Equator

It straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas
Hosts a large diversity of ethnicities, cultures and languages
Africa's has landscapes of many changes.
With beaches, rain forests, islands and dunes,
its climate keeps you guessing all afternoon
Contains an enormous wealth of mineral resource and
largest numbers of megafauna’s species

From her Warthog to her Giraffe,
from her Impala
to her ground, bound Ostrich,
Africa's home to so, much wonder,
that it's hard to leave this land, down under!

Premium Member My Favourite Animal In the Wild

My favourite animal in the wild?
Brumbies and mustangs when I was a child.

But now as an adult I really can't say,
There's such a magnificent diverse array.

But I suppose upon some introspection,
With my lean towards natural selection...

The dogs I keep are as wolfy as possible;
Faving the wolf seems the most plausible.

But if I have to pick one, pets aside,
There is one particular handsome hide;

Seeing beauty in a mug that's for others a slog,
I positively adore that fang dangled Warthog!

A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Zoo

A funny thing happened on the way to the zoo,
You won’t believe it but I’ll tell it to you,
I was driving there and what did I see?
All the animals were set free!

The eagles were flying thru the air,
What destination? They didn’t care,
The hippos, elephants and rhinos cleared the street,
Camel, antelope and zebra clomping their feet.

Snakes, tarantula and scorpion on the run,
Crocodile, bison and warthog all having fun,
Gorilla, giraffe and the wildebeest,
Having a ball to say the least.

Lions and tigers began to roar,
Like they had never roared before,
Later we found how they were set free,
Somehow the monkeys had gotten the key.
