Each morning I count his breaths,
then the pills, then grocery lists,
then hypotheticals~
mornings brittle as eggshells
in a too-empty carton.
His breath, a slow tidal~
my lighthouse flickers nightly.
What shore waits for me
when the waves recede elsewhere,
barefoot on cold linoleum?
My skin is like tracing paper,
each crease a story no one reads~
who'll turn my frail pages
when my hands forget their alphabet?
Our pills rattle like dice
in the ceramic bowl.
I count his ribs through
the thinning cotton~
his breathing
the only clock I trust.
We planted oaks once~
roots deep, outlasting our bones.
Now their shade stretches,
but who will sit under them
when our names are just leaves?
Wintertime: snow fills the entry way.
Neighbors salt their own first.
I should've had sons~
or daughters who'd remember
how ice clings to old bones longest.
I imagine a future in which
the nurse’s smile stings.
Just ring if you need help, dear~
as if the button’s reach
isn’t the whole aching distance
between pride and the floor.
To condemn the modern conflicts
like Vietnam, Afghanistan
and Iraq where there’s no quick fix;
and countless deaths in no man’s land
are still shamelessly occurring.
If one should speak out against them
those of us are charged as being
leftwing radicals and condemned
strongly as unpatriotic
a catchall word used to censor
opinion against quixotic
military pursuits and measures
that needlessly spill the lifeblood
of a nation based on falsehoods.
Can some-one tell me
Where I can find some
Snail Tail
Something nice
And something plump
No, I don't do Dentures
I just want to suck
We can do it with
Vinegar and rice
We can do it out
Of a cup
I will do it on the fryer
I just want to see what's up
-
Now, I know that you are slow
-
But you really turn me on
And you are my true desire
Bless my soul and cross my toes'
You set my heart on fire
-
But for just one chance
Of some Snail Tail
I know I will never tire
So get your mind out of
The dumpster
And let us keep it at that
And if you don't
Who will take up the slack
When the Snail fight's back

To M.S> Sweetheart P.S. You inspire me!
Most of what I write about
Never even came close to happening
Is this perhaps a failure on my part?
Do you wish to see me beneath all this covering?
Well truth be told I'm kind of a quiet person
One who finds awe in the most random things
Even a minuscule fleck of dust
Can inspire a song from deep within!
I like to ride my bike in the summertime
Beneath shadowed trees - where it feels most sublime
I like to laugh at nonsensical sounds
I don't even care if anyone else is around!
I like to say "Hi there!"
Even if the greeted looks rather glum
Though somewhat selfish
I like to think I'm as open-minded as they come
This is all just the outside,
The well maintained exterior of the inner me
As a machine often leaks oil, as do I bleed ink
Forming a map to guide you through -
The country of Timothy!
I won't lie and say
It's the best place to live and die
(Though it is pretty seeing
The occasional thought breeze by)
You best grab them squirmy things
While they're good and hot
Some are gold and some only copper...
But it's honestly all I got!
The denizens serve me well
In my castle high on the hill
But they don't know the King himself
Has even bigger shoes to fill
His friends and family tug and pull
Wishing me to be like this - to be like that
Well ME is all I will ever be!
Did I not just show you the map?

I speak from my heart and refuse to ever give a censored version
If you're easily offended you shouldn't read a poem with my words in
People fear the truth, so they get mad when you speak it
I'll write every thought, if its good or bad and I'll never delete it
We're all entitled to express how we feel, but some hide it
I won't dress it up or try to disguise it
If you hate me for it, then so be it
I don't live to be liked, I got bullied at school and its no secret
My parents chose alcohol over me so I'm used to not being wanted
Imagine thinking I'd be scared of being hated for being honest
I share my thoughts even in drama and conflict
When you beat your fears is when you become strongest
I don't speak to offend, I speak out of love and passion
Some don't agree with what I say, and try to show it with actions
Call me names, hate me, attack me, I really don't care
I'll speak my mind even if it offend you until I'm no longer here
If you won't speak your mind I don't want to hear it
If you can't say how you feel, I don't care for your words
If it's on my mind or in my heart I'll share it
I want to touch on every thought I have before I'm in a hearse
I speak from my heart and refuse to ever give a censored version
If you're easily offended you shouldn't read a poem with my words in
People fear the truth, so they get mad when you speak it
I'll write every thought, if its good or bad and I'll never delete it
I’ve lived in here for more than a decade
Comfortable walking through life
But never making it my home
I don’t know where the fault lies
But it doesn’t matter when you ain’t living.
