Best Supremes Poems
I sing a song of three.
There’s Larry, Curly, Moe;
the Ego and the Id
and the Super Ego.
Three Kings of the Orient
are known as three wise men.
Showing up at Christmas too
in song are three French hens.
Rock, paper, scissors -
three gestures with the hand;
tricycles; three-legged races -
things of kiddie land.
Three little kittens; three blind mice;
three were the billy goats gruff.
three bags of wool; three little pigs;
three bears for Goldilocks were more than enough.
Being three sheets to the wind
won’t be very good
if a 3-ring circus
becomes your neighborhood.
But three are the Amigos
and three the Muskateers.
Charlie had three Angels -
they were TV dears!
Huey, Dewey, Louie;
Kirk, Spock and McCoy;
Peter, Paul, and Mary
I sure did enjoy!
Three were Cream, ZZ Top,
Rush and Motorhead,
Diana Ross with her Supremes
(but not the Grateful Dead).
Three’s Company, but three’s a crowd!
Three strikes you’re out: a yard’s three feet.
Three-piece suits and Hanson Brothers.
Girls think those are sweet!
Ice cream Neapolitan
comes in flavors three.
So does three-cheese pizza
or a sandwich BLT.
Three-leaf clovers do abound
though luckier are four.
Yellow, red and blue when mixed
make three colors more.
Three things evil not to do
are to hear, to speak and see.
Holy is the number three
when it’s the Trinity.
Splendid are the trilogies
like Lord of the Rings.
Clearly you can see by now,
in threes there come good things.

It began on a high note
Dreams of a New Frontier
Those dreams were shattered in Texas
In the Fall of the same year
Christmas time was solemn
Before the storm there was the calm
We saw them escalate a war
Sending our young to Vietnam
It was a vibrant time to be alive
A good invasion hit our shore
The British sent their music
Our lives would be changed forever more
The times they were “a changing”
Was it better, was it worse
There was no time for apathy
Was it a blessing or a curse
In June came graduation
The fulfillment of our dreams
The Four Seasons sang about a Rag Doll
We were introduced to the Supremes
Now that our senior year was over
And we would go our separate ways
There remained a bond to hold us
Until our dying days
Some went off to college
Not knowing what’s in store
Almost all would serve their country
Some went off to war.

Narrative
The super Supremes, are just one of the groups
Of Motown stars singing their style.
And do not forget the tempting Temptations
Who stayed on the top for awhile.
While The Supremes and Temps had various hits
And fans of intense devotion,
T`was Smokey who performed my favorite Mo-tune;
My pick—Second that Emotion.
We musn`t forget Gladys Knight and the Pips,
Or the grooving of Stevie Wonder.
The dancing and costumes that were The Four Tops—
The crowds applause sounded like thunder.
Time will remember the Bubblegum craze and
The Disco, with the silver ball.
And I know that history will certainly show
Motown`s one of the best of them all.

Most everyone has heard
of the place I come from
They hear mostly bad news, sad news
Tragic Detroit black and blues
The crime,
the murders,
The violent riots
that constantly divides us
But I grew up during a special time,
when Detroit was singing
and making the nation dance
I was born in a generation
that had a beautiful legacy
There was so much royalty all around
I walked among the kings and queens
who created the Motown sound
The list is too long
for me to say
But I'll name a few anyway:
The Temptations,
the Supremes
Stevie Wonder,
and of course the Queen
Aretha Franklin
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles,
Marvin Gaye
The Jackson Five,
there's a lot more names I can say
I grew up Detroit singing,
my town's famous heritage was world renown
We were the ambassadors of soul,
uplifting spirits everywhere with our harmonious sound
I grew up Detroit singing,
soulful songbirds in the heart of the ghetto
I grew up Detroit singing,
where beautiful voices still flourish and grow
I grew up Detroit singing,
that's the Detroit I know and love so

Dramatic Monologue
mr.X may have said,"By any means necessary." In elaborating, I'll say,"By any means necessary which is sensible, logical, rational, ethical, and most of all moral." Lately, all I'm starting to see is a Dead Sea. I'm in no way God. But I hired him. He's doing a terrible job. I should fire him. He justs eats potatoe chips, drinks beer, watches too much t.v, and certainly plays with himself too much. But , I keep him because it is constantly getting harder to find someone willing to work, like me? Well , you know work may be the most obscene four letter word in the English language. Let us pray. oy vey. ( in memory of my maternal 1st cousin Peter. born 1949. died circa 1971. He was the oldest cousin on both sides. I the youngest. born June 30, 1964. The exact same day Ms. Florence Ballard of motown supremes turned 21, the age of Peter, and the age of my maternal 1st cousin Simone. born 1960. died 1981. let us all pray. all the way. thank you. with love.

Acrostic
This year's sound is over
like an echo from the hills.
I'll only pray when the night comes
I'll stay only when you heal my pain.
You just closed the gate
You stole my hope
And for your promises I grope
to fill my hands.
So how can I hold the light?
The sun's risen dreams
I still owe words supremes
My soul hides and redeems.
You know I've lost the way
There are no words enough to say.
Just hold my tear
I'll come back soon, I'll come back soon
I'll come back soon, I'll come back soon.
From the song ''Goodbye'' - Elton John.

Mae Baneda Jackson reigns
from her throne,
a crate on the side
of the crossway
before the feeder at
S610 at S288.
Her kingdom encompasses
a grassy knoll in
the greatest country in the world.
Like Nzinga, with cinders in her eyes,
She rises like the phoenix,
dazed by the sunlight.
She could have been.
Borne and buried
alive in Jasper, Texas.
She vanished from
Jefferson High School
like a phantom.
An invisible woman,
the alcohol dyed her lips
permanently pink,
like a passionflower.
Her smell was musky
like passion fruit.
Hair, curly like lambs wool,
skin like burnished copper,
shoeless, crusty toes,
she embraces her box,
and builds a mansion
(condominium, apartment,)
with dreams of something
lofty, like a full meal
in a restaurant and
a house with a door and a yard,
or maybe just a bed
that didn't have nails in it.
Scraps of discarded aluminum,
shopping carts, rags and pieces of
cardboard are found treasures.
Her breakfast is from the trash of the
convenience store in the gas station
across the way,
but she always says grace.
And when you hand her a dollar
or a quarter or a ten,
she says thank you.
If you pass her by,
or roll your window up,
or speed by,
or never even see her,
she still sings to herself,
some old Supremes song,
"Stop in the name of love,"
that her dear departed mother loved.
Mae Baneda swims
in a sea of gas fumes.
See her at the crossway,
her arms outstretched,
swimming in blood.

Sixties music was so sublime.
It was bell bottomed trousers and Motown time.
The Tracks of My Tears and Ooh Baby, Baby
Our dances to our parents seemed crazy.
We would slow grind to Smokey’s croon
or do the jerk to a Supremes’ tune.
Afro hairdos swung to Temptations’ beat
while America burned with racial heat.
Soon we would form a Soul train line
where you’d see dances of all kind
hustles, shuffles, splits called ‘’james brown’’
“Mustang Sally, slow your Mustang down”
3/15/20

Like a Child from its nightmares,

Do I find Myself, going through

Of holding it All together, then
bursting at the seams
As if I'm on Cloud Nine and the
balancing beams
But, isn't Life full of surprises and
schemes
When I had you, was mine like a
box of Krispy Kremes
Now, it's devastating as Diana being
without the Supremes
Got Me caught between Life and Death,
wanting to referee these teams
Just so I could have you back, If Only

Island girl now of Purley
at youth shielded from Rock N Roll
she remembers the Supremes
Kick start those autumn leaves
You're a pillar of an ancient profession
This is no ruse
just plain thoughtfulness
You've handled my feet with perfection
you've bandaged my shin
always to the best of your ability

Our forever Sky Dancer peace parades his Paradise dance on soaring
silky clouds kissing a milky blue tender sky, sun on high, breezes on low
all giving way to cautioned Winds of a coming Change. That cosmic window closed upon those giving nations of first earthly born supremes on this, their planet Earth of everlasting life; a being of quieting calm, an eternal indebtedness to and within oneself, with all nature in tune and a universality of spiritual life lived--ever consuming, enduring, inhabiting all that is known and will serve to be.

It’s funny how each generation thinks their music is the best
that the songs of their youth are the best songs…
and how each generation knows that they are right…
and every other generations out there must be wrong…
For instance my generation listened to the Beatles, the Jackson 5…
we felt like dancing…we came alive.
We listened to James Taylor and Stevie Wonder too.
Karen Carpenter…what a voice…Simon and Garfunkel was a choice,
we listened to Three Dog Night and a band called the Guess Who.
There was Norman Greenbaum, the Temptations…the tunes of our young generation
with the music playing our heartbeats all increased.
We could have been a little smarter…we did listened to Patches by Clarence Carter
okay, we were eclectic to say the least.
Neil Diamond kept us grooving…The Supremes kept us moving
We listened to 8 track tapes inside our cars.
We sang along with the Kinks and Four Tops…we danced without shoes at sock hops
Credence Clearwater Revival we affectionately called CCR.
In sharing this music with each other…we became our sisters and our brothers.
We liked the way the music moved…we liked its rhyme.
Why…is difficult to say…but music had a way
of linking us all together over time.
And though it’s hard now to behold…how we and our music have grown old
separated by time and often distance
I’m sure my generation would agree…even those who sang off-key
those songs were vital to the heart of our existence.
Which is why we not only have a knack…but we love looking back…
and listening to those wonderful old songs…
I imagine that’s why whenever we hear…a song from our past…we cheer
and why we pump up the volume…and sing along.
So my case…I must now rest…it’s plain the music from my generation is the best…
and why the songs from our youth are the best songs…
And though you might have the temptation…to think the same about your generation..
I’m sorry to say…you would be wrong.

“Your Life will be Filled with Magical Moments”
Now what more can be said except that anything is possible at any given moment. Probably the greatest example of something from nothing comes from the songwriters Galt Mac Dermot, Gerome Ragni and James Rado when they penned this fascinating ditty.
“Gliddy glup gloopy nibby nabby noopy la la la lo lo”
“Sabba sibby sabba nooby abba nabba le le lo lo”
“Tooby ooby walla nooby abba nabba”
“Early morning sing a song”
Yes, ‘Good Morning Starshine’ that light hearted pop song featured in ‘Hair’ (1967) rose to #3 on the US charts in July of 1969 and hit #6 in the United Kingdom in October. Over the decades, it has been covered by 16 different bands, performed live by top artists like Diana Ross and the Supremes, and featured in countless television shows, commercial ads and movies.
Proving that, with the right magical timing, even gibberish can leave the world ‘Feeling Groovy’ man. So, no matter how dumb people think your words are, they might make someone smile and that’s enough for me.
Don’t listen to them
they swore it could not be done
man will never fly
