This June, our national football team
Is going to South Africa, for the World Cup
When we were told not to wear our team colours
I thought, ‘This country has gone bottom up!’
Since when did our nation get twisted
Into a totalitarian state?
Where certain minorities have their say
Fuelling the ‘BNP’s’ fires of hate
They wouldn’t have even dare to constrain
The Welsh, the Irish or Scots
Who if told not to wear their teams colours
Would rather be hung, drawn, quartered or shot
Their sense of pride in their history
And for their Countries, is world renowned,
For England to bow to the vociferous few
Would be letting the team in South Africa down
Not to mention our troops in Afghanistan
Fighting terror so we can live free
Nailing their colours to the mast
Standing proud in the fight for their country
We here in England must echo that pride
As onwards all ‘our boys’ forge
And I for one, will be flying my flag
For Queen, Country, ‘boys’ and Saint George.
In October of 2004,
“The Curse of the Bambino” was no more.
Boston Red Sox fans had never seen
a World Series victory since 1918.
It seemed ever since Babe Ruth was sold,
only Red Sox fans who were very old,
would ever see their team take it all.
Elusive would be the World Series in the fall.
The teams would win pennants for many years.
However, World Series contests would bring tears
to many a Red Sox fans’ eye.
It seems winning always passed them by.
Since the days of Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski,
Red Sox fans would never see
their favorite team achieve victory.
However, in the season of 2004,
the losing ways would continue no more.
They met the National League team from St. Louis.
This team possessed great baseball prowess.
When the Red Sox met the Cardinals at Fenway,
this time, victory would not get away.
Red Sox fans expressed great elation.
They all rejoiced in jubilation.
In the year 1989,
A long time ago!
I heard Sachin smash Qadir,
On the radio!
Test Cricket,
Was the name of the game!
I knew instantly,
Cricket would never be the same!
In complete humility,
He graced the field!
His sound batting prowess,
Made every bowler yield!
He conquered every record,
He’s the only King!
Not just a cricketer,
But a lovely human being!
He is the Master,
Who blasted away to fame!
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar,
Is his famous name!
Today I pray,
That he wins me the Cup!
India wants to see my Idol,
Lift the 2011 World Cup!
Dedicated to: SACHIN RAMESH TENDULKAR....My Icon, my idol, who inspires awe
worldwide, and patriotism in countless number of Indians! May my Country be blessed
enough to see him lift the 2011 Cricket World Cup...:-)

He began his career playing T-ball along about the age of eight,
Never dreaming that becoming a professional was to be his fate!
Right off the bat (so to speak!) he was a natural at the game.
With hard work and support he was bound to gain some fame!
He advanced to the little leagues as he grew in stature,
Playing most every position, but he excelled as the catcher.
At bat he garnered a few home runs along the way.
The young lad's athletic prowess is still talked about today!
He became a pitcher during his high school and college years.
His speed and accuracy amazed coaches, fans and peers!
Upon completion of college he was recruited for the minor leagues,
Where he suffered the usual harassment, letdowns and intrigues!
The moral lessons he learned upon the friendly fields of strife,
Prepared him to better face the challenging vicissitudes of life.
Especially when he was named rookie pitcher for a major club,
Tho' he spent many seasons warming the bench as a sub!
His big chance came in the last inning of the World Series game,
That brought him honors and election to Baseball's Hall of Fame!
The manager signaled the bullpen to send the rookie pitcher in.
He calmly retired the opposing side for the World Series win!
