Premium Member Johnny Had a Girl

Johnny was my best friend through our early teenage years;
Wherever one of us went the other could always be found near;
Until he found a girlfriend who soon supplanted me,
But because he was my best friend, for Johnny I was happy;
Johnny had a girl
He had a girl
Johnny had a girl
She rocked his world
Johnny had a girl.

Throughout four years of high school I was always the third wheel;
Going off often by myself, leaving Johnny with his girl;
They learned about biology outside the class room walls;
Johnny always had plans with her every time I would call;
Johnny had a girl
He had a girl
Johnny had a girl
Oh, what a thrill
Johnny had a girl.

One week before graduation, coming home from a date,
Johnny never saw the drunk driver until it was too late.
For three months in a coma, I sat by Johnny’s side;
I knew that when he woke up, someone had to tell him she’s not alive;
Johnny had a girl
He had a girl.

I took him to the gravesite so he could see it with his own eyes;
We stayed there for hours so Johnny could say his goodbyes.

Johnny got in his car that day and started heading west;
Nobody has seen Johnny since, I wish him the very best.
I’ve taken care of her graveside for thirty years and more;
If Johnny ever comes home again, we’ll be friends just like before;
Johnny had a girl
He had a girl
Johnny had a girl.

Young Fool -To My Father

YOUNG FOOL.

Weren’t you the silly and stubborn young man who came to the land of the Free
and home of the Brave to work for free, starve and get no sleep? How dare you change
paradise for this?

Once the night fell you got on a tiny boat with a thousand others breaking your mother’s
heart and making the toughest man on earth cry, your father.

Oh you silly young man... smart, handsome, talented, and humble of only 23 decided to
risk it all. You had it better than most back home, yet you needed more. You needed to
set foot on the land of “Once upon a time.”

Days went by, weeks and maybe months, desperation came closer and the toughest
broke down, the braves returned back home to make it there as if it was meant to be like
that and the fool like you continued. Even though everything seemed to be endless, you,
I guess, you trusted God or were too blind folded by your desires that you didn’t back up.

Tierra! (Land!) Was screamed in desperation as a sign of relieve. Tierra! Columbus and his
men would’ve been ashamed of their cry announcing that they had reached land if they
would’ve heard you and your companions.

OH, you silly old man, still don’t own a home. Yet, feel that you have accomplished all.
Like a sleepy baby you got through the days. You made it through with hands that had a
mind of their own, fixing things, painting, and doing things that still amaze us all.

But you, you didn’t come here for the home, the car of the year, or the Bling Bling but for
the future of two little girls. Foolishness, ignorance and desire taught you to be the best
man to walk the surface of the earth, to be tough, to be brave like a soldier and to stay
humble all the way!

I love you Dad.

Solitude

Moonlight kisses the calm, balmy sea,
the cool night is calling me
as I sit by the lonely shore
so far away from our home.

Silence lingers, the wind gently blows
while my thoughts fly back to you,
wait for me, wait for me,
I’ll come home across the sea.

From a distance I hear a sad guitar,
my mind goes to where you are,
your loving face is all I see
with a voice that beckons to me.

By the light of a yellow, pale moon
I’m dreaming to see you soon,
wait for me, wait for me,
I’ll come home across the sea.

Going Home - the Bravest and the Best

Johnny’s going home today
His glory days are past
His buddies stand at attention
Eyes tearful and downcast
The sound of taps is softly heard
The mournful tune rings true
And all rise to salute him
As his cortege comes in view

Another soldier laid to rest
A warrior going home
Taps are played
Honor paid
To the bravest and the best

Billy’s going home today
Church Bells toll the news
His family softly weeping
As they line up in the pews
They reverently laid his coffin
Gently on the bier
As his mother reached out to touch him
Just wanting to be near

Another soldier laid to rest
A warrior going home
Taps are played
Honor paid
To the bravest and the best

A car bomb placed in Israel
Claims children passing by
Mothers are left helpless
Crying to God and asking why
Soldiers in Afghanistan
Patrol the land night and day
While the natives only wonder
When they will go away!

Ellen’s going home today
Her children still too young
Restless in their seats
As familiar hymns are sung
Her husband in his uniform
Stands stiffly as she goes by
They had met when they were rookies
And he tries hard not to cry

Another soldier laid to rest
A warrior going home
Taps are played…honor paid
To the bravest and the best
Lord when will we have peace
This peace for which we yearn
And the Lord answered ‘It’s up to you
When will MANKIND ever learn?”

Broken At Points

He was sitting on the roof
She was standing on the edge
He said, I can’t take it, no more
I was singing in her room
She was sitting on okay

I’ve been at home love
All day
On your mind
I’m always

Don’t you appreciate the truth
I’ve been on the road the least
Singing on the loose
Leaving at your peace
What to do with you
Speak and I can’t move

Nothings on your mind
Stop wasting our time
I’ve been at home love
All day
On your mind
I’m always

She was sitting on the roof
He was standing on the edge
She said, I can’t take it, no more
I was sitting on good bye
She couldn’t afford to tell a lie

I’ve been at home love
All day
On your mind
I’m always
