Premium Member Her Name Was Regret

Her name was Regret, with a rocket step
She was chestnut flashing, released lightning
In a century past, an age of side saddles and corsets
She was feminism set free, blazing down racetracks

She matched the undefeated wind
Besting the boys, again and again
Her arduous suitors, fools for the chase
Fell, one by one, under her pace
And, left to shade of golden wings flown
Had to settle for escorting her home

She was the first queen to display the red
Of Kentucky Derby roses around her head
Her exploits so adroit, she won her peers
And named American Horse of the Year

Her place in racing legacy, set
Not bad for a filly named Regret.

(in 1915, Regret was the first filly to win the Kentucky Derby)

Premium Member Whose Memories Are These

Whose voices, whose memories are these
That warble in trees, exalting my breeze
Applauding the daybreak's cerulean grin
Where amber ocher designs are floating in

Is that your echo from the cobalt blue sky
Wondering aloud about dawn's tepid sigh
As the morning evoked destiny's knowhow
And birdsongs lauded the blessings of now

When rays of romance in day's golden start
Painted my vistas, charming your heart
A smile you adorned on the saddles of arc
Reminiscent of the past, igniting my spark

I recognize the appeal your passions reveal
In intimate presence that meadows feel--
From way back when in allure of moonlight
Sensuous lips we kissed of an indelible night

Though it was love, it was never expressed
And those feelings afire never got blessed
So they arise to voice what could have been
Augmenting the dialogue of battles within

Visit To Grandma

Have you ever woken up feeling like a kid

With angels dropping cotton candy on your soul

When knocks on doors reveal no steps in snow

And shooting stars have white beards and presents?

I get lost sometimes under goose feathers and it feels good,

Broken speakers squeak Christmas Carols

There are no clocks on walls, only the rhythm of pine logs in the fireplace

It smells of the forest I used to fly with horses,

No saddles, no hats, no shoes, no wolves...

Just practicing tying my shoelaces and sitting up straight for life...

I watch her reflection secretly pray in a room made especially for us...

*

It's warm, pupils - two mirrors of colorful lights on a plastic tree...

I Am From No Set Label

I am from country living and bareback riding
But you wouldn't know that 'cause i keep hiding
I look like I'm gothic but i really don't bite
Trust me I'm not that big of a fright

I am from backyard football and gymnastics
I'm sorry, I'm not really a romantic
Playing videogames and household chores
While findin' time to hang with the boys

I am from western saddles and drag racing
My dad's camaro going through it's fast paces
Wanting my own classic beauty
Just wanna be seen as groovy

I am from dark poetry and hard back books
Not really caring how everyone looks
Never caring how they see me
Because I am who I want to be

I am from darkness and not of the light
Sorry, it may seem a fright
I once had dreams that frightened me so
They wanted me dead, but i said no

I am from children of the dark
And in the night I awake with a start
Feeling unknown forces in my head
Voices that filled my being with dread

I am from misunderstanding and many wrong looks
Many people think I seem like a crook
But I am from no set label
And I don't think I will ever be able

A Cowboy Is

The unsung heroes of the open plains
The outlaw bandits like Jesse James

Cut throat thieves and black jack hustlers
Green horn Cowboys and long horn rustlers

They all stood the Cowboys test
A stetsons man a broncos best

Leather chaps and leather vest
A real man's man a cut above the rest

Blazing saddles and blazing guns
Long trail ride and mountain runs

Chuck wagon chilly and camp fire sites
Hot sweaty days and long cold nights

A Cowboy sits on his faithful steed
Quick draw fingers based on speed

Bandanna mask and whiskey flask
A Cowboys job is'nt an easy task

Tabacco chew and cow beef stew
a Cowboys gang and Cowboys crew

They did work from dusk to dawn
round 'em up and brand 'em all day long

Gee!!! and haw!!! right and left
Yee and haw out of breath

Cowboy slang and Cowboy lingo
even Mexican Cowboys that say Gringo

Greetings y'all and howdy stranger
long lost wranglers and lone rangers

Ruff and rugged with no frills
Ask questions later shoot to kill

Yellow belly buckaroos and snake oil peddlers
wanted dead or alive outlaws and frontier settlers

From the California gold rush of 48
to the 13 colonies of this great state

Cowboys lived and Cowboys died!!!!
Cowboys give for Cowboys pride!!!

Lost Herd

As the sun rises
a young pioneer saddles his ride.
Mounting his horse
his young bride
his love as he rides
Off to find his herd.
 His proud mare
goes through the prairie
next to his barb wire.
He wonders in his mind
how far have they strayed.
How many day
must I ride.
He sings aloud
a song his herd
has heard
as he rode.
On yonder hill he sees
two cows grazing along
next to their side two young calves.
He hears their cries
as he tops the hillside.
In the green valley below
he sees his lost herd.

Premium Member The Yin and Yang of Doubtful Bay

A subtle march hush saddles the valley
whilst dawn’s reveille is the seagulls call
staid water’s brim against ancient galley
once flew the ensign how the mighty fall.
For here she lie ‘o’ top of salty graves
where wretched souls ne’er see another day
their silver horizon the restless waves
that howls the sirens song of doubtful bay.
Long gone the storm the cries of emotion
of those whom hankered for a better life
yet still the tempest doth rule the ocean
to take at will the rights of man and wife.
Gone the prisoners of her majesty
damned to the colonies over the sea
the bay holds no bars grants them amnesty
their spirits to roam the ocean floor free.
There’s no one left to wail or shed a tear
to pen a shanty of that tragic hour
nor weave a poem of hysterical fear
build a monolith a marble tower.

Space Cowboy

I'm a space cowboy
riding imaginary horses
with black light saddles
herding cows in my closet
my six shooter is my finger
making bullet sounds with my lips...

My ten gallon hat
filled with false optimism
borrowed from a circus clown
in a barnyard outhouse...

My posse are ghost riders
in the milky way
we lasso Taurus the bull
and have shoot outs
with villains
shaped as shadows
on the star dust trail....

Fantasy

"Beyond lychgate lies future death" she says,
cucumbered eyes slid back under cauliflower sky,
brimming smithereens of harkening demons.

Been in saddle some time since torchlight began,
a child's silent castle ago. Chaos-times cut alleyways
through rose-lettered circles, reads trashy maid.

The journey fell sword north along shield path.
Peninsula late to temple-crawling fiend
and settle princess patter dust. Like trick glass

the moon palace emanates, a chain works
its crystal door. A shore of bane swims world-sick
with fire-wing ticks abreast, dragon-headed air:

happens to be, as the world burns...

Spring chickens looked at first
grasshopper leaves, blossoms.
Empty saddles of burnt Autumns
sit with moccasin thirst.

One ruby night ago, vampire night,
made movie set by tail light.
Wrench of fog came loose and fell.
Eye of moon too close, well...

Winged skeletal open sheet,
sanguine collar of his neat.
Began by serving up the meat.
Legs he tossed, and arms and feet.

A rise and shine ago, luster of sight,
out of scene the farmer goes.
Steel machine cranks horizon bright.
Scroll up the title i suppose.

Barn stall features dingy leather
where lasting gleam slips by candle.
Recall adventure, mural by weather.
Motion eye attached to handle.

Scoot across encrusted bucket,
folded over the eating depth.
Put filthy Kraken atop it,
swished around the damn mess.

Brave journal follows company
down the water-taped steps
to where there isn't any.
Sealed flame lights diver's quest.

A cave away, keys of hassle,
swim to shore with hopes unravel.
Brute force thunders far within.
Exact the sword to have them send.

Enter bar stool and order takeout.
Hostess charm enhanced the make out.
Her fuel adds flames to very fabric.
Her fists were fiery, action: magic.

Out of dust broom closet knelt good
ole nuke we ended up sneaking places:
peaceful village of the caring hood,
small reaches, to parking spaces.

Twisted hair in castle braids,
scoundrel bristles painting raids.
Countdown pistol official use,
punching bag for ogre face.

Premium Member Queen of the Desert

All bow low unto Pharaoh,
Queen of all upper, and lower Egypt.
Hollowed halls echo thy name,
 Nefertiti.
Cast red sails towards infinity's,
 Swift currents.
 Nile waters part steadily
Anubis guardian of the dead,
 Receive thus living deity.
Let sacred alters burn bright,
Light sacrifices ashen embers,
In thine honers reverence.
Beneath desertions desert ruins,
 Lies etched upon mortar's stone.
A royal tomb bearing her,
 Majesties,
 Unspoken name, Nefertiti.
 Golden saddles press against,
 Mortals realm,
Behold a phantom goddess,
 Brushed ageless,
By times untarnished memory,
The pasted reveals truths,
 Magnificence.
Through redemption's flame,
Two scepters crisis cross,
 Within beauty's touch.
An ancient throne has,
 Been reclaimed.
Raise great sphinx, from
 Your sacred resting place,
Shake free fetters sandy mane,
 Breath once again,
 His might’s roar harold’s,
 Her return.
Soft winds blow against,
 Freedoms breeze,
Exposing a glittering figure,
 Standing tall,
Beside the great monolith.
All bow low unto Pharaoh,
Queen of all upper, and lower
 Egypt.
Hollowed halls echo thy name.
 Nefertiti.

Schooling

Broken tables
And itchy saddles
But still on
Leaving over this worth
Appreciating all as they come

Lost vigor
And fallen figures
Yet still on
Throbbing so long
Seeing it afar
But still holding so far

Dark morrows!
Piercing sorrows!
Almost over I hope
And thinking it’s done
Headed for quittance
With hugs for success

Premium Member Hard Life, Well Spent

Cowboys herdin’ cattle cross dusty trails
Sandy hooves paint ground fog in their wake
Shuffling along swattin’ flies off molty hides
Riders amble aside keeping eye on their stake

Chuck wagon camps, setting up by a creek
Beans and pan bread cookin’ over hot stones
Coffee’s meandering aroma penetrates the air
Greeting men carrying saddles over tired bones

Ranch hands scout the waters nearby
Look to the sky to judge the night
Storms a comin’ as night encroaches
Coyotes restless, cries rent last light

Cattle dogs alert to changes
Nip the heels of stragglin’ calves
Cowhand slaps his rope while coaxing
Blistered hands and lips in need of salves

Cowhands sing to calm their charges
Bedrolls gathered near the fire
Dreaming of a trail once taken
And of their loves as they retire

Premium Member Blue's the Color

The colors of lights are brilliant, intense
There are many pieces around that’s blue
The colorful light brings a loving sense

The blue brings calm and saddles the wire fence
She stands on one side and just looks anew
The colors of lights are brilliant, intense

She showers in the blue and sure does rinse
It’s her pleasure to field what is her due
The colorful light brings a loving sense

The blue is often thick and often dense
Blue’s the real color, it’s surely the hue
The colors of lights are brilliant, intense

She walks the ground of color that’s immense
Her thoughts were spinning as her heart sure grew
The colorful light brings a loving sense

The blue lights sparkled, seemed not to be tense
The lights are pure, special, to list a few
The colors of lights are brilliant, intense
The colorful light brings a loving sense
