Sir Snooze a Lot, a dragon knight,
slept 'neath a mushroom one moonlit night;
it sheltered him from the meteor showers
safely he slept for unending hours.
This 'Shroom, ever so enchanted,
by a wizard it was planted;
in high-pitched hums, ethereal tunes
it sang morning, night and noon.
As he slept, this dragon dreamed,
of someday becoming a dragon king;
so realistic his dream became,
that he did awake to his fame.
Sir Snooze a Lot, Your Majesty,
it's time to awaken from your sleep.
I've granted your desired wish,
upon you powers I now lavish.
Awaken king of Dragon land and
give your serfs their new commands;
I find you are ever so worthy,
so now a mighty king, ye be!
You possess a heart of gold,
your own kingdom it shall enfold;
Take thy scepter and thy crown,
for your rule, you'll gain renown.
The King awoke as 'Shroom sang this song,
he yawned and tried to sing along;
he saw the scepter and the crown,
with sapphires, and diamonds all around.
Thanking 'Shroom he flew up the hill,
he was informed that old King Bill
had died that night, now he was king;
the dragons cheered and bells did ring.
Sir Snooze a Lot did snooze no more,
for he was never, ever bored;
and he went down in history,
for his successful ministry.
For two weeks my wife has nagged
at me to mow the grass.
“Two weeks!” I said, “That can’t be right,”
but time does quickly pass.
So to get back in her good books,
I had to make a solemn vow,
that I will mow the grass tomorrow,
because I’m watching telly now.
She mumbled something ‘neath her breath
like I’ve often heard her do,
and I gather that she called me lazy
between the odd choice word or two.
But a bloke is entitled to unwind
by relaxing with the TV.
I just wish she’d get up off her backside
and start preparing me tea.
To drop a hint I pushed on the remote,
flicked the telly on to S-B-S,
because I know the programs on there
to the wife don’t really impress.
But the program that’s currently aired,
is deemed as a medical show
where the patients are on life support …
kept alive and don’t even know.
I said to me dear darling wife
indicating on to the screen,
“I don’t want to live in a vegetable state,
dependent upon a machine.”
So without one word she stood up.
I thought she was gunna get tea,
but she walked the opposite way,
and unplugged the bloody TV.
After many hiccups along the way,
My faith in flying cars has been rewarded,
The promises given in the sixties,
That got buried alive in the seventies,
That almost ran out of air in the eighties,
That got dug up in the nineties,
That got left behind at the dawn of the twenty first century,
That were rediscovered a decade ago,
Have now been given the green light.
Now all we need to do is embrace them,
As a means to save the planet,
And kiss goodbye to the need for even more roads to nowhere,
At a cost to economies everywhere.
slow slide into love
loneliness is forgotten
happiness now rules
melancholy abandoned
patience fully rewarded
