REFRAINS OF WINTER SONATA

When fallen brown leaves brush a sepia picturesque
and the bubbly breeze blows a heated winter sonata,
the giant roses of clouds are teased, they shed
icy petals tumbling, drifting like little ballerinas

dropping to rest on branches of trees, grasses, houses
and down to window ledges clustering in lily-white hues.
Frosty mornings and nights lure the need for warmth
from brewed coffee, a kiss or just a minute of touch...

Absorbing the air, alone, I wander to the cover-walks,
I see children tramping and playing on hills of frost,
some couples carelessly sliding, they laugh out loud,
yet afar, some robins, deer and beggars frown in despair

as they are homeless. No fire nor a person to cuddle with.
No adequate food to eat nor a flowing water to drink too...
Cold. Wet. All white, frozen snow-tears are in their eyes
and so I am one afternoon, a year and six months ago.

The winter atmosphere can stir love passions within
but how can it all be when the only woman, I love.
I wanted to marry and ready to give my all: refused me?
She, slowly walking away, leaving me crying-- a snow.

'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 3

(a poetry collection)

for The Beloved and in honor of Mevlana Jallaladin Rumi

… illusions don´t matter when you see the best of yourself reflected by the beloved in the
garden pool of your affection…

* * *
… your ocean reverberates in mine, the terror of darkness in its thunder, sunrise-surges in
its motion, and resonating to all, part of me bows like the willow, while another rises toward
the moon as powerful, but taller and straighter than poplars of the mountains…

~~~~~~~
We all are girls and boys in the sandbox… and the ocean beyond is our dream…
~~~~~~~

… like fox kittens tumbling about on the sunlit steps of home in forest glade and field, so
lovers test one another in hope of that childhood enduring like the sun…

'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 6

(a poetry collection)

for The Beloved and in honor of Mevlana Jallaladin Rumi

~~~
Third Leaf: "Mavi" (Turkish for 'blue')
We love dreaming hallucinations
of ivory towers out of fear
of tumbling truly asleep into visions of
doghouses and nightmares of
Tinseltown-Princesses
falling in love with the dog in the backyard…
* * *
Alexander… they called him Great,
loved a beautiful soldier and a beautiful horse,
kissed one
and the riddle is: Did he kiss both?
which one first and with the most ardor?…
___
… pulsing…
… our blood thick
with us together
oceans of each other
in the salted mist,
rapt, I hear your thunder and hiss
am at sea in your siren call
beckoning my shores
cleansed of all else…
… our anchor rocked
in the umbilical rhythm
washing through us
ceasingly pulsing…
* * *
… my vision of you blinded me
when you came to live
in the irises of my eyes…
… the ultimate,
marriage of illumination and lustrous darkness…
… perfection of vision – blind, yet
still seeing irises…
'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 5
(a poetry collection)
for The Beloved and in honor of Mevlana Jallaladin Rumi
… the mind within mutely knows that much of love´s pain is not surrender, but self-infliction,
yet willingly surrenders to a blindfold worn above a knife thrust into the heart…
* * *
… in vain, we hope the wound will heal, though the wind will caress it during the magnificent
and cleansing terror of free-fall...
~~~~~~~

Loving you is my indulgence… please indulge yourself…

* * *

… intimacy flourishes at night because love walks the velvet-deep
of night-sky…… wrap it around you… intimately…

'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 4

(a poetry collection)

for The Beloved and in honor of Mevlana Jallaladin Rumi

… you´ll find yourself through the agony of giving birth to your friend, brother and lover, the
same blood throbbing to the same pulses through the same veins from the same heart
making love to heart… … the unsolvable riddle of essence born and reborn in essence…

* * *

… we waited for centuries to share our toys, and now I always hold you carefully before me
while we are bareback on our horse carrying us back to the chamber of our Eternal Mother,
modest yet resplendent in her robe of the Ageless One…

* * *

… I honor you: You, prince of desert horses, the pristine promise of treasured rainbows in
your arching neck, the wind in your flowing mane, the cadences of your feet, dust rises
around you like a veil… the yawning of god in awakening lies beyond…

* * *

… the stain across the horizon is the birthing-blood of our brotherhood from a time beyond
all horizons, but not beyond our river flowing from heart to heart, where sunsets and
sunrises take their evening and morning baths…

'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 2

(a poetry collection)

for The Beloved and in honor of Mevlana Jalallidin Rumi

… beyond its usual flavor, the lemon is only as bitter as compared to the sweets preceding
it… cleanse your taste buds with it and turn the favor on its head with the caress, again, of
sweets upon your tongue, forgetting the bite so lately of lemon…

* * *

… the long-suffering of love comes at a price more rewarding than the fornication of hatred
in lust…

* * *

… when come the rabbits from their burrows will come the song of day; dance its rhythms,
for living is ceremony, a marriage, even of sorrow to sorrow…

* * *

… perfume isn´t released until flower-petals are crushed by pulses of the heart…

~~~~~~~
You refuse to acknowledge that I love you until you have wounded me, then sit beside the
river of my blood, waiting… for what neither of us know…
* * *
… perhaps it is illusion, for which none can be blamed, in the hope that such rivers will come
together for one heartbeat of forever… before disappearing… forever…
* * *
… illusions don´t matter when you see the best of yourself reflected by the beloved in the
garden pool of your affection…
'no Quatrains, But Refrains' - Part 1
(a poetry collection)
for The Beloved
and
in honor of Mevlana Jallaladin Rumi
_______
First Leaf: "Radiantly Dark"
I have wandered the moon-smitten byways of earth and not seen
a divinity as radiantly dark as your eyes, and knowing this I am
lost, not caring, for my mind is lost just as well…
* * *
… I won´t be found until the eclipse of divinity, and with an ache
marrow-deep of spirit confess that I don´t want to be…
* * *
… intoxication too often leaves one ravished: the bittersweet
aroma of longing ravaging me…
* * *
… dare to drain the wineglass of desire, then fling it and listen to
the piercing tinkle of breaking glass, an ominous sound, but
more pleasant than that of a breaking heart…
~~~~~~~

Whistle away your anger and leave your lungs empty for a new
gulp of air – born of yourself…

Strolling down memory lane as a saxophone plays
 a haunting melody, notes floating like ghostly dreams
 as time meanders like a river through eternity

 Love etches its way into the heart of eternity
 With melodies of a violin, so bittersweet it plays
 For sometimes it ends in broken hearts and dreams

 Musical refrains take me farther into surreal dreams
 As I try to decipher metaphors flowing into eternity
 But the tune still echoes through my memory as it plays

Melodic memories plays into the rhythmic dreams of eternity

I open my book of memories
 As I travel back in time
 I see us embracing 'neath palm trees
 Our hearts as one do chime

 Dulcet refrains of the violin
 The fragrant scent of the rose
 Notes from the piano now join in
 a melody only our hearts know

 We stroll the beach 'neath starlit skies
 and kiss in the glow of the moon
 Our hearts aflutter like butterflies
 Will dance to love's blissful tune

Dawn spills hues of honey-tangerine
  and leaves its sweet dew on the rose,
    Sunbeams sweeten the morning,
  With warm caramel glows
 A dulcet bird song floats
      and sugar coats the breeze
 awakening all the flowers
      Which give nectar to the bees
  I sip a cup of coffee
 As a song my heart retains,
    The morning is a melody,
 That comes with sweet refrains.

 Oh Love! Throb and thrill of my life
  Why you desert me in my strife?
   Why stay far, giving no delight?
    Don't fade like a symphony sweet.

 Won’t you come near and ease my pain
  Can’t you see me in sorrows lain?
   Be with me as my guiding sprite
    Don't fade like a symphony sweet.

 Help me set goals when I am dull
  Hold hand when I'm about to fall
   Infuse strength when I face defeat
    Don't fade like a symphony sweet.

 Make me happy when I’m in gloom
  From silence, what should I assume?
   Please don't be stubbornly quiet.
    Don't fade like a symphony sweet.

            ***************

longing
             goes On
our warm kisses
                      ignited a     f i r e—

f l a m b o y a n t
                     swirl in breeze
concrete guilds
       linger
sharp nail scuffs
&
sinister spikes

clinking cuffs
                         create
captivating cacophony
sharp sting
                stings my wrist~
ritualistic resignation,
                          branded in b l o o d
My heart is
            breaking deep
I cry—peace is so corny...

thoughts can't sleep
always remembering
                            your face
till we meet again—
let me sing
                      this lovely r e f r a i n
Fragments of my soul
                          are broken &
dispersed,
               as fallen leaves
aching within
empty echoes
of
memories

you look at me
&
w h i s p e r
                  maybe a f l a s h b a c k!

coolness waned,
                          leaving cinders...

                      heart hits with hollow hunger

your touch stays on my s k i n

memories say no—
                            to fade into darkness
sing gentle r e f r a i n s

hoping you’ll                          listen
In quiet, I find your voice...
or is it
                      just an e c h o?
