Best Recovery From...Women Poems
She had great beauty
Was well educated
She knew her calling early
Prepared herself for the day
she would meet the Prince of Peace.
Had seen it in a dream
Even her mother had known
her daughter was destined
to a will of God's own
She had the stamina to succeed.
But she knew it would be
A difficult road to walk
in a time where women were treated
as servant class folks
and were not allowed to speak in public.
Miriam of Magdala
was her real name
Came from a sea port, Magdala
by the Sea of Galilee, thus her name
She was known as Mary Magdalene.
She was well to do
and helped the less fortunate
She was no prostitute
but she spoke out, thus sealed her reputation
as a women of easy virtue.
She knew what was
the role of women
She devoted herself to Jesus
and the healing of women
She suffered for standing up.

Became a Stribu model barefooted.
One of many but an ordinary person.
Wore a shirt from Walmart.
A denim skorts from Jcp.
My teenage daughter was humiliated.
I felt great, forgot my illness, heartaches.
Stood proud clothe in my brown skin.
Whoever withheld, restricted, am free,
though cancer ravishes, I stripped
for my child who's ashamed,
other who don't know, cannot afford screening, treatment.
For the homeless, those who cannot afford.
I stood shoeless. Am thankful for all I have, am given.
Most importantly for life. My gift to those who are no longer,
at the early stages, the end.
I stood for you shoeless and unrestricted.

The emptied bottle's contents
Are swirling down the drain
But when tomorrow comes
She'll pay with pills and pain
Her meager meal is forgotten
Flushed down the greedy pipes
But when tomorrow comes
She'll just go on to cuts and stripes
The cigarettes are gone now
"Im gonna quit I swear"
But when tomorrow comes
Those words were never there
The drugs are in the trash bin
The needles thrown away
But when tomorrow comes
She'll play a whole new game
The razors in the dumpster
Awaiting tomorrow's hurt
Because when tomorrow comes
The promises are worth as much as dirt
