"Mine all Mine!"

A thief I long to be
Your eyes original like the moon and sea

A lover in the world............
An Anthology, you walk and talk like the word "AMOR."

The words you send, I nicely tuck under my pillow
Every note every line you left behind
I memorized till they became all mine
Word-for-word,
Unauthorized I scrape the concrete calluses off the tongue
Pirating the perfect dramatic monolog look,
Basking through the passage around your Bio,
Lost in the musky scent -around the sonnet of your aura light
Epic enough, I reach inside to feel every idyllic rhyme
A strong iambic meter curse, conjuring up the perfect verse
In you I lift a copy paste from your lips,
No need to credit the sources in your bliss
The sweetest undamaged sensual memorandum book
A moment I stole and sealed without copyright proof

My dearest Poet,
When you move across the room
I see a thousand arrows that follow from behind,
Indulged when you speak and point out a verse per verse
I am a victim pampered by your words,
Sponging every line, adding them to my crib notes
Improved wordplay that infringed my everyday diary
A haiku so tangible, it sets the perfect images in my dream,
Hypnotize after I read your first love poem
A printed feeling--
Borrowed from the sun

Premium Member To a Lighthouse

Sentinel of water’s beauty and breadth,
grand messenger of danger
so statuesque around an ocean's expanse--
O beaming guardian of light
Moon and waves crest upon dark of eve,
it’s time for you to flame!

Circle on for voyager’s harborage
illuminate this ferocious brine;
In quiet comfort, in nightfall’s embrace
whisper of vigilance... point out the shore
as your noble wardship rules ,
when stardust pales away…
Till boats drift across the horizon
And tower bells hum a soothing lullaby--
Allowing men the cuddle of your grace.

Premium Member Keep Your Hand On My Shoulder

Let me not say hurtful things,
Or shameful actions do.
Let my words not sow deceit,
And thus bring shame to You.

Let my words bring only peace,
And my actions too;
That I may walk with head held high,
And only friends accrue;

For there are those who look for faults,
And point out others sin.
Let me build up my fellows Lord,
And not be one of them.

Cleanse my heart and cleanse my mind.
Let me not cause doubt.
Keep Your right hand on my shoulder Lord,
And Your left hand over my mouth.

Premium Member Conquering Rainbows

With the sun shining on my right side
And the clouds pouring rain on my left
It seemed to me, I didn’t have too far to go
To reach the most brilliant rainbow I had ever seen yet

I ran as fast as my little feet could take me
Before the spectacle could up and disappear
My whole life, I wanted to scale rainbows
I may as well do it right now and here

When I reached the beginning I was almost blinded
The red and orange were hot to my touch
But when I grabbed a hold of the yellow and green
They didn’t hurt so much

I placed one foot on the blue; the other on the indigo
I used the violet underneath me, to point out which way to go

The slope started off steep; it took everything I had to climb
As up and up and up I went, losing all track of time

At the top of the rainbow I could see forever
The earth beneath me and the heavens above
I had never felt this feeling before
I’m pretty sure that they call it “love”

I just sat there in peaceful silence
With the colors wrapped around my limbs
If happiness was a deep blue ocean
I had just jumped in it for a swim

The time had come for me to descend
As the sun was starting to set
I slid down the rainbow like a playground slide
On a ride I will never forget

When I reached the end of the rainbow
I found disappointed people looking for gold
But fortunes aren’t found at the end of the rainbow
It’s in the journey – or so I am told

Premium Member Orange Crush Ii the Adventures of Soda Pop

Before reading this one read part one, the story will make more sense.

I felt safe amongst the colorful pages of the comic books wrapped around me. I could hear the little boy say bye to his grampa Cliff, his Grandpa said goodbye Ricky. There was a wonderful bouncing feeling as Ricky skipped out the door to his father's waiting car. As we started driving away Ricky pulled me out of the bag and I could see his mom, dad, sister and brother. As we drove along I learned the other boy was Roy and the little girl was Teresa. His parents simply were mom and dad.

I quite enjoyed the ride, Ricky's dadio had a need for speed and it was exciting passing the slower cars. In this world it seemed all of the other cars were slower. The first town we came to was Larder lake, if blinking had been possible I would have missed it. As Ricky looked through me I marveled at both the color of his eyes and the rugged landscape. Pine trees, poplar trees and beautiful lakes. I loved how the road was carved through sections of rock. The next small town I noticed was King Kirkland, it seemed rather little to be a King. It wasn't very long and we entered our destination which was Kirkland Lake.

Kirkland Lake was much bigger than where we had come from. I enjoyed watching the people as we traveled down Government Road West. I remember driving past restaurants and stores, Dadio slowed down to point out a diner called the Coffee Cup. He told us he had a Barber Shop at the back of the Diner, I was more interested in the theatre across the street. The theatre was called the Strand and I liked the flashing lights on the billboard. Just then Ricky placed me back in the paper bag with his comics so I slept for a while.

Orange Crush III to follow.

Greed

Author Dana Redricks
July 18, 2019

People don't show their appreciation and quick to point out our flaws. I often think of God and what he must sometimes think of us. We murmur and complain overlooking his many blessings. I know it breaks my heart to hear someone complaining when I ask the simplest things, when I know I've bent over backwards to help the other person the best way I could. What hurts worse is when you need a hand that same hand pushes you away. I know I'm not perfect and never claimed to be. No wonder it displeases God so to see a selfish person who is always unwilling to give instead always wanting just to receive. Nothing good comes from greed it will only eat you alive in the end.

My Little Girl

The best of all of God's creations
Flipping through my radio stations
Kisses when I'm feeling blue
The world revolves around me and you
You point out daily, how much you've grown
I react as though I hadn't known
But you can bet, I didn't fail to notice
Not one moment, have I missed
I study your face, memorizing the details
Capturing photos incase my memory fails
But I assure you, if I'm coherent
I'll remember time, together, spent
Shotgun rider in your car seat
Singing ABC's just a little off beat
Working through tangles, in the shower
Receiving a gift, the perfect flowers
Why do I ache and miss you so
While here I am, watching you grow
I've seen this scenario many times
You'll learn to color inside the lines
Then I'll buy you a car and off you'll go
I'll fake a smile and put on a show
Next will be a man to steal your heart
I already miss you, before we're apart

Premium Member In Case You Missed It - Revisit

My eyes have not grown too weak or dim
to ignore what they've long been seeing
pretenders who wear a mask of disguise
like a skier who's not proficient at skiing

Everyone who labels him/herself a 'poet'
thinks he's composed brilliant words, versed
but lacks ability, and some of us know it,
and receives high praise; payback reimbursed

Is it because some seek insincere empty words
to gain a like response as a misbegotten debt?
Could it be they want undeserved admiration
for posting things a serious poet would regret?

And what of time consuming contest entries
that tower in skilled verse above most of the rest,
only to see everyone received a first place finish
when theirs is ignored but clearly one of the best.

IT'S A SLAP IN THE FACE!!!

Let's not overlook when the final results are in
those who give nods to each other as number one
It's obvious they don't always deserve the win.
Doesn't that spoil both the challenge and the fun?

Go ahead and point out that I shouldn't complain
because I stopped entering contests months ago
and seldom post on a site where some would reign.
but I discover things that make me say, "WHOA!"

Not so many fake names appear by a cheating judge
and I thank all of those who plowed that farrow
There are times when we all need a bit of a nudge
to make sure the path we walk is straight and narrow

Now I've learned that the advertisement displays
are prohibiting Connie Wong from enjoying her part
in reading and commenting in her loveliest of ways.
Connie is a talented poet, with a pure, loving heart.

Premium Member Amid a Few Bad Apples

There are a lot of word Smiths on this site
Who pen good poems that are out of sight

Its likened to attending a beautiful feast
Or eating good bread with just enough yeast

However, I must point out, and it's not a myth
I am in no way, shape, or form a word, Smith

But, I marvel at the talented people here
Viewing their various poems fills me with cheer

I am forever thankful I found Poetry Soup
This community is such a fantastic group

Finding the gift of words saved my life
It rescued me from heartache and strife

So, although I don’t cross every “ T” nor;
Do I dot every “I” writing means much more

I know some could care less about my poetry
It’s ok, well all have different tastes, you see

However, we must respect one another
By not saying nasty things to each other

Isn’t this lovely site about sharing poetry?
The backbiting needs to stop; It’s no mystery

Amid a few bad apples on this amazing site
This will always be a place for me to write

Premium Member Too Many Poppies

Too Many Poppies

I don’t want a poppy
I don’t want a shield
I don’t want to visit
Rows in Flanders Fields

Another young person
Yes a young soldier fell
They laid down their life
What story does it tell

Off to another war
In a far off land
Beaches in Normandy
Blood spilled on the sand

I don’t want a poppy
I don’t want a shield
I don’t want to visit
Rows in Flanders Fields

My heart can’t take it
Fathers, sisters and sons
Why do we choose to sacrifice
Precious innocent ones

Are guns the answer
Where does it all lead
Poppies upon rows
As young soldiers bleed

I don’t want a Poppy
I don’t want a shield
Fighting old men’s battles
Just leads to Flanders Fields

Soldier’s Response

I’ll do my best to defend
this land that I love.
I’ll risk meeting the angels
in heaven above.

Raising our flag of glory
I will gladly do
Even if they take me down
I'll hold it brave and true.

Canada my country
I'll stand by her and fight.
I'll take on its enemies
with all my strength and might.

No matter where I’m sent
I'll proudly make my stand.
To protect my home
Its people and land.

Your picture I hold
Close to my heart
Gives me my strength
When we are apart

Loved ones left at home
Won’t hear our battle cry
Their prayers are the hope
On which our spirits fly

If we don’t make it
Back to our home
Our sacrifice is our gift
In a field marked by a stone

Response to Soldiers

To all of our Soldiers
Who cannot be heard
Your actions and sacrifice
Are the final word

We wear our poppies
Hold our collective breaths
Some questions only answered
By actions and death.

A co-written piece by: Richard Lamoureux and Mark Wayne Shifflet. It was a pleasure to write with Mark.

We wished to point out the absurdity of men resorting to war while still honouring the men and women who so gallantly put their lives on the line to preserve our freedom.

Premium Member O Charming

Theres a saying that says that opposites attract
Well I am so gorgeous it seems it's a fact
I like a plain girl for whom I can care
Cos I like a girl I'll not have to share

To not have to punch other blokes would be great
So I'm really glad you're a bit overweight
I'd like to point out that you've made the right choice
For no other man could put up with your voice

You shouldn't feel bad that you're not that good looking
At least I'm not dead from your ‘inventive’ cooking
And who else could bolster this ego of mine
But a girl just like you who drinks way to much wine

I see guys look at you, I guess that it's pity
They wonder why I'm not with somebody pretty
I love our nights in, we don't go out to dine
You might scare the children my sweet Valentine

Well this is well weird, I'm sat home alone
You had to pop out when you'd answered the phone
I glare at the clock and it's three in the morning
I'm nearly asleep and I cannot stop yawning

At last there you are with that silly false smile
Some shortsighted fella has tried to beguile
A loser in love with no romantic powers
Who lumbered you up with chocolates and flowers

Who's that outside with a rose that is red
Don't get no ideas about three in a bed
You should understand that it's me that you're for
Er... why are my suitcases outside the door?

The White Pumpkin

The White Pumpkin

A farmer tends his field
Vines grow and wrap around each other
Giant white flowers bloom in the heat of summer
Butterflies and bees dance from flower to flower
Spreading the pollen from male to female
Inseminating to create the next generation
Weeks later the children arrive
They laugh and giggle as they run among the orange pumpkins
Each one takes their favorite home for carving or pie
One pumpkin is born small, oddly shaped with a white skin
It sits alone by the wooden fence as the rest are taken
The day before Halloween one child comes for a visit
Out of the dozens of pumpkins still waiting the child chose the small white one
His parents point out all the beauty around him
The child doesn’t change his mind or his heart
He spoke of the one he wanted
“This one is like me,” he said as he lifted it into his wheelchair
That was all that had to be said
The white pumpkin was loved by a little boy
A little boy who knew what it was like to be different
He knew what it was like to be loved
And now, so did that small, oddly shaped pumpkin with a white skin

Premium Member Self help: It's On

Don’t be good just to be good,
Because it makes you seem right,
Do good because you’re better than bad,
Because you’re up for the fight,

And put up your dukes, call the bad out,
Point out where bad words are wrong,
Sing it out loud, for all people to hear,
Sing it loud like it’s a song,

And rejoice this defiant voice in the dark,
Rejoice the voice that you are,
Rejoice the line in the sand where you stand,
Be proud of the good in your heart,

Then stand up tall after defeating the bad,
Defeating bad things that were said,
Because, at the end, it’s you that matters,
Defeating the bad in your head.

Deep and Dark Poets

Let us be; we are fine.
Our hearts are broken,
and we do all cry;
we show our emotions in blood and metaphor;
you sit and smile at my sorrow,
then you ask if you can help me.

The smiles are fake, but the words are real!
I throw my sorrow on a thin, piece of paper and call it poetry,
while dotting my I's with tear drops.
We are all poets, some speak it;
others write it,
but we never forget it.

You call me a cry baby,
saying all I do is complain,
and you point out the flaws instead
of encouraging the good to come out and shine;
"Another teen suicide today"-Oh- I wonder why?
No one cares,
till you are packed in a box and put six feet under.
Break my heart when I'm alive and well,
and stich my heart back together with words of praise
when I'm dead and long gone.
Nothing left to show,
but a stone with a name and date that is covered by fog
and forgetful snow.

We are the modern day Romantics,
so break our hearts for if we cry and wonder,
it means our hearts are still beating.
Don't still my hand or his or hers,
for we all have something to share
that's worth hearing,
... someone just has to listen...
