Autumn in New EnglandAutumn
paints New England,
staining hillsides, wrapped
in red,
garnishing the trail
beneath my steps.
The season spills
like cabernet across
a changing landscape;
where the maples
bleed
their aging, amber
leaves.
I stroll
amidst the falling flames,
below the blazing
treetops,
the crisp air thick
with life, that's soon
to rest.
I walk
through spreading fire,
listen to leaves, their stories
rustling underfoot–...

Christmas In New EnglandChristmas In New England
It's Christmas in New England
I can see the Northern star.
My thoughts like dreams of yesterday
I wonder how you are.
Childrens laughter fills the air,
apple cider in a cup.
Eyes like lights on Christmas trees
oh how they all light up.
Presents strewn about the floor
the pleasures...

Winter In New EnglandLong ago, in days of old
I remember winter snow
Fluffy or heavy coming down
in every single New England town.
Seems like it was ten feet deep
Icy fingers and cold feet.
School got further away
dependent on how much snow that day.
Building snowmen in the yard
Hitching rides on passing cars.
Playing...

Autumn In New EnglandThe hurricanes have ceased,
orange and gold leaves fall,
and dusk approaches
while I brush my hair.
In my line of sight
books beckon,
music entices,
prayer tempts. But the one
to whom I belonged
has betrayed me
again
and I have vanquished him.
I am inconsolable
and weeping.
New England is prized
for it's autumnal glory.
How I wish to...

New England WinterI tap my foot restless...
The snow continues to cover.
In a torrent- my torment.
Taking my sweet years with it.
As I age and forget.
With all that remains- I regret.
I retreat in my cave and curse the gray days.
A thief in the night, I...

Just a Day In a New England TownIn this place I passed today
Were the many faces unknown to me
From the corner of my eye I spied
A man of strangest seemingly so out of place
He walked with his head drawn down as though he meagerly disgraced
Out of smiles sternly wearing...

New England MorningIt was a day
as all days should be,
with every tree
impressively arrayed
in lush summer growth.
As if on cue,
the luster of the grass
illuminated you
in bright reflected light -
a sight
to last
for ever in the memory.
Sunlight cascaded...

Watching Amos Plowing With Horses“Howdy Amos”, “Howdy Seth”, without a glance.
Amos t’aint much for words as he stares straight ahead
His gaze as straight as his furrows.
Amos is what you might call a “deep thinker”.
I watch as he bounces up and down on the plow hitch
The bells on his mighty...

November's LamentLast night before I went to bed
I thought I heard “the hawk” a’callin’
Crying out that autumn’s fled
And soon I’d see the snow a’fallin’
All through the night the windows rattling
Proclaiming nature’s forces battling
And when I woke I saw firsthand
Through frosty panes a wonderland
Of snow-draped trees and...

Cemetery GrassA billowing sheet of white geese
Trundle across the street
Onto grass rich and green
From winter melt
Black river rolls like a fat man
Trying to get outta the way
Stumbles and falls
On smooth gray rocks
And tumbles merrily away
Sweet scent of decay passing
Cemetery opposite the river
Headstones flowing...

Elegy to a promised landIn the quiet twilight, we gather here today,
To honor my dad, remember him, and pray.
From the promised land, he flew with no regret,
To the fifties U.S., a different mindset.
In the old world, he wore many hats, even a soldier,...
