Winter In New England
Long ago, in days of old
I remember winter snow
Fluffy or heavy coming down
in every single New England town.
Seems like it was ten feet deep
Icy fingers and cold feet.
School got further away
dependent on how much snow that day.
Building snowmen in the yard
Hitching rides on passing cars.
Playing outside till darkness came
arriving earlier every day.
The moonlight brought a colored hue
more fallen snow to shovel through.
Cups of cocoa warming inside
hats and gloves on lines to dry.
Snowball fights in the neighborhood
Sliding down those hills was good.
On your little bright red saucer
before the slush turned it to water.
Waking up each day to the radio,
Schools closing due to snow
Was the news that we longed to hear
Sure made our sadness disappear!
Yes, how we miss those winter days
when our only purpose was to play
But now that I have grown up
About an inch of snow is just enough!
