Best New Creatures Poems
"In those vernal seasons of the year when the air is calm and pleasant, it were an injury and sullenness against nature not to go out and see her riches, and partake in her rejoicing with heaven and earth." - John Milton
Valleys, fields, meadows and hills take on a sunny glow.
Everything is fresh, and nature’s new creatures flourish and grow.
Rains pour down; mountain streams joined to rivers flow.
Never at least till fall must I worry about streets filled with snow.
Abloom are various flowers and trees; they put on beautiful show.
Life renews and songs fill the air as spring’s birds fly to and fro.
*A small lake named Serenity am I,
well hidden here among the fragrant pines;
reflecting the **cerulean of sky
till Sun behind the distant peak reclines.
***Now humming bugs crepuscular emerge
to greet the twilight’s creeping. Next a fawn
has soundlessly appeared upon my verge.
A lapping in the stillness. . . then she’s gone.
*Dawn arrives. I’m longing to be painted
**once again by sun, the color azure.
Jubilant that I remain untainted,
***I croon to nature, rippling my rapture.
New creatures on two legs disrupt my peace!
Who comes here? Must my serenade now cease?
(For the Designed by Devise Poetry Contest of Debbie Guzzi)

Vernally, I'm reminded of resurrection's redemptive power. Seeds are encapsulated throughout winter's freeze, cradled in their protective hull until conditions are ready. Dying to themselves, the endosperm must sacrifice its contents so that the morphing seed will have substance to feed off of. When sufficient warmth is reached, they instinctively know to rise. Ceasing to be a seed, a plant instead emerges. Roots extend deep as green expands toward celestial cyan. Even so we must die to ourselves to emerge as new creatures.

He thought on all the attributes of Spring
The landscapes deliquescing, day-by-day
On white and gray and drab, so giving way
To all the hue-infusions life could bring
New creatures of all size, some on-the-wing
A bud and blossom dance of shadow-play
The grand and graceful grass and leaf ballet
A breath, alive with things that buzz and sing.
Yet now those wondrous joys of life's debut
Were things that only photos would recall
For Man had turned the living earth into
A dead and frozen planet, thru-and-thru.
Yet there above, the Sea of Suns did call -
A hope for Man's next Spring was there ... he knew.

I swim in your holy water
basic rules for survival
shed the skin
like a baptism
immersed in saltwater
the lower vibration
lifted
removed
from that prehistoric place
the dermabrasian stings,
raw, we walk out together
new creatures
into fresh certainty
soft thuds clawed suckling
on uncertain shores
the feelings
begin
solitary, rapturous
natural selection
resurfacing
singular in plurality

Gone I past the planetary galaxies
Lounging on the back of comfy comet
Whistling: here I go and i will be there, through fearful void
The blackish abyss and eternal nothingness
Slipped to the polish throne, His worshipful highness
Salutation to all rulers, Emperor of the universe
Bowed, I with head touching the feet
Like Arabian knight revealing bronze palms
Brought nothing but peace seeks I
Fountain spring of the beginning and the end
The breathing stones of Diamond and Jasper
What peace! That refuses to manifest amongst the pieces
On the face of the globe
Should I squirt it, break it or relocate it
Or manufacture brand new creatures
That’s more or much realis most beautiful
In all things
With all bundle of brainy
In quantum than Einstein?
Sack shape head making the whole load
Of body, arms and legs will be
Like many ropes with clumsy clutching suckers
And the eyes larger than what they are
More than a dozen probably
So that in haste quickly reaches the end of time
And do what you are suppose to do,
Rather than rambling, knotty rivalry that lead infinite
Murdering the lads with your archaic missiles
Hissing among bodies: I am the powerful
No, I am the most potent
No, destruction I most
And all that; deceiving the deceptives
Haven’t you heard?
Haven’t you seen?
That tap of my fingers like sound of earsplitting
thunder-waves will cause hungred
Earthquake to swallow up the minute world
Spittle, because of bile of rage will outflow the ocean wave
To wash out every nation
Let me not utter the might of the suns
When commanded will shrivel burn out
The whole universe to cinders
I have done it once
With clapping thunderous storm as a memorial
A teardrop for your incorrigibility
Tower of Babel should come in as a remembrance
Beware! Of the gradually broiling boiling anger
Inside of me, beware! Warmongers
Of the sneezing vomiting flu
Stubborn fly that can 't escape the fly trap.
A legend that has been used and abused so much,
Deals with the undead, blood drinkers as such,
Many stories from all over the globe are told.
I have seen every movie, ever made and sold.
Real Vampires exist of this I am so very sure.
An evil form, well maybe, and without a cure.
Legends all begin with some sort of partial truth.
Can anyone definitely be sure there are no such things?
Ages have past and we still find new creatures on earth.
Realistically I cannot believe all the tales that clings.
Dracula the most famous Vampire for all it is worth.
Unites all the lore, that humankind has believed.
Listening and embellishing, has been what perceived.
A soul taken, by another has to be evil, they all sleuthed.
Victims of such a violent death are bound to be evil.
I would expect more from today’s world, less medieval.

In spring time, the birds all do sing,
announcing what nature will bring.
New eggs in a nest,
a robin's love fest
and bunnies just having a fling.
In spring time, there comes a new birth
New creatures appear on the earth.
The birds and the bees
all do as they please
and all are surrounded by mirth.
In spring time, the brooks do run clean
and new life around is all seen.
The tulips pop up
and a buttercup
and daisies are making the scene.
In spring time, the sky is so blue,
sublime and ethereal hue.
The air is so new,
it smells of the dew.
You know you will find your love true.
The world once had so much mystery
So much allure for the unknown
As children we looked up at the stars in wonder
What could be out there? who was watching down on us?
We would explore every street looking for the mad man
Or the Boo Radley of our block
We searched every park for buried treasure and new creatures
The lakes for sea monsters and mermaids
And each other for new ideas and fun times
But eventually the realization set in
That there were no madmen, no magic,
No buried treasure at the end of the secret cave
People hurt more than helped
And not many ideas were shared that went beyond the basics
Mostly just gossip, food, and sex
The realization set in that there is no bigger plan
No one is watching down on us
Or looking up
We are just mildly intelligent primates inhabiting
A nondescript rock
That orbits a giant ball of gas and fire
Amidst billions of similar celestial bodies
In an infinitely large, silent universe that
Doesn't seem to care one way or another
What we do or say
No, there will be no storybook endings
No divine inspiration or love at first sight
Just the deadly, or should I say lively
Monotony of life
Day in
And day out
Until we die
There is just Life
And Death
Nothing else
I sit tonight
And...stare
Out my window
At
The passersby
In their cars
Under the stars
Close to far
Going
About
Their
Way
Though
Day
Has
Passed
This

And
That
Further

The
Last
They go
Past my window
Soon
The flow of cars
Dwindles
And people
Walk
By
In fewer
And fewer
Numbers
The space
Outside
My window
Grows

Of human movements
The night
Becomes
Still
And
Peaceful
And welcomed
In

A ghost
In

A
Movement
Over the ground
Not a sound
To be found
Of a...fox
Soon
Gone
A noise
A light
A car passes
On the
Once
Busy
Street
Now in solitude
Left alone
A house, dark
Windows
Its owners...asleep
Or
Still out
I wouldn't know
A dog barks
And
Breaks
The silence
The still solitude
A streetlight
Stands
Guard
A
Lone
Sentry
In the night
The only light
In my sight
And shows
The
Way
For a lone soul
Walking
Down
The
Street
Nobody

Omniscient creatures.
In the starving dawn.
To native skin reborn.
Run free.
For we exist.
Surrender restraints.
As today lends a gift.
This way.
To unborn love.
Androgynous sonics.
Twice rendered from above.
Have you seen this dream?
No?
Well sink into the night.
Dream in all hues.
Awaken to secret fires.
And the rebirth of you.
The rest remembered.
As the evening sun dipped in the blood-red horizon,
A gust of Silence came, whispered and then hushed
The warm air that was hastily passing the dungeon
Of thick scrub where the quivering grasses blushed.
The last flickering of Sun vanished and it was time.
Darkened, It was time for hunting and to be hunted.
The primordial cycle of hunt began in a raw chime
Of survival for the fittest. All hunt now enchanted.
Night here is so horrifying, even the Breeze dares
To sound its airy hum. Predators roam everywhere.
From the high branches, dark caves, dark soil-crater
And thick bushes, the primordial Eye of Death stares.
The Primordial creatures trample, fly, glide, clutch
With their teeth, claws, peaks soaked in the blood.
Creatures perish, new creatures emerge here in such
A world of Hunters, Hunted. All wander like cloud.
What if…
By Dane Smith-Johnsen
In the Garden of Eden, Adam lived while life was wrought.
He knew God's work was taking place beyond that garden wall.
Together, he and Jehovah walked; everything was taught.
God brought first creatures formed on earth and gave Adam a call.
“Please help me. Name each one,” said God. That was before man's fall.
Adam, in the garden's light said, “Sure, there's so much time.”
I'll help you, Lord; I'll name them all, from over sized to small.
With this new work, his thoughts were full; and naming things was fine.
The eons passed, new creatures formed, all before man's fall.
One by one, he named them all as his light shone straight and tall.
At last our Earth was interlinked, all creatures and the man.
As soon as all that work was done, there was some time for fun.
But idle Adam all alone forgot God's greatest plan.
Although, God came, Adam was sad, creation all but done.
Jehovah did not hesitate. None found? Should He clone one?
God and Adam, best of friends, had both worked tirelessly?
But time had come to be a man; so God made Eve, woman.
We cannot tell how long those two lived romping, happily.
Or when God gave that first command to test immortal man.
But as we know, the story goes; they ate and then were banned.
There are some questions one must ask and answers to invite.
If, Eve perchance had skipped the fruit, then, where would we all be?
Would we be watching earnestly with hopes that Eve would bite?
We unborn spirits that God knew, all waiting patiently?
The winners of all heaven's war who won God's fight for right?
And why did Adam, knowing God, decide to join in sin?
Did he prefer a mortal life in place of lonely days?
And if he chose the other way, then, what would be our end?
Should he have spared another rib and sent Eve on her way?
Can we say, he loved her much. So, he choose to join sin's fray?
Welcome to Itsy Bitsy Pitsy Ritzy Chitzy planet.
Where the west is run by faeries and elves.
The east is run by those-who-shall-not-be-named.
That’s where crocodiles and sharks live, so stay out of that place!
I slather myself most of the time pretty much to middle earth.
The only danger here is the Voracious Victorious Volcano.
Because it dispenses hot pink lava at noon, daily.
No problem to me. That is when I swim with dolphins.
The dolphin swimming is done for free.
No one spots you, but the whales keep you safe.
They are there too. Blue Dad and Red Mom.
They are not bossy, but make sure everyone stays alive.
Welcome to Itsy Bitsy Pitsy Ritzy Chitzy planet,
There are too many new creatures to speak of.
They are being birthed daily, so here are some guide books.
Come back in an hour, and get new ones. That’s how fast we update.
We are not sure why this planet has constant new species.
The faeries and the giants might have something to do with it.
Here is a Wiccan; she could probably enlighten us too.
Except, I am a bit fearful. She transmogrified me into an elf once.
I nod to her, but she does not see me. She is a bit “off”.
Which is saying a lot because we are all “off” – it is how we got here.
Others do not come to visit, even our amusement park.
Flying pigs are in charge of the funnel cakes. They are marvelous.
Welcome to Itsy Bitsy Pitsy Ritzy Chitzy planet,
A place where misfits are welcome.
Watch out! Someone just got thrown from an airplane.
We do not die here; we are immortal. Another perk.
God has revealed His new creatures
those that are in Christ no less
showing His godly character to be
this is required for your heavenly dress
When one looks upon those ones
that professes to be so very holy
so often carnality is all seen
one must judge looking very slowly
Look circumspectively just to see
where's the evidence of Christ's effect
is there humility, grace and meekness
traits of Jesus but so often just defect
In an age of much God rejection
rationalism and apostacy rules the day
where's the change of lives and morals
little evidence too of man's urge to pray
Paul spoke of a real new change
old things to go everything was new
revival is required to save society
God's powerful effect long overdue
("Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.")
