Rebirth

Vernally, I'm reminded of resurrection's redemptive power. Seeds are encapsulated throughout winter's freeze, cradled in their protective hull until conditions are ready. Dying to themselves, the endosperm must sacrifice its contents so that the morphing seed will have substance to feed off of. When sufficient warmth is reached, they instinctively know to rise. Ceasing to be a seed, a plant instead emerges. Roots extend deep as green expands toward celestial cyan. Even so we must die to ourselves to emerge as new creatures. arise anew burst forth buds creation continues its course 3-31-2021 Springtime Haibun Contest Poetry Contest Sponsor: M. L. Kiser

“Even so we must die to ourselves to emerge as new creatures.” ... what a powerful line, and reminds one of Jesus’ parable about the seed. You’ve tied the botanical details into a story that is applicable to the human condition. Nature is a great teacher ... even more so, to those who take the time to listen. Thanks for your recent visit to my page.

I'm glad you made the connection with Jesus' parable because that's exactly where the inspiration came from, though I forgot to site the passage.

Juliet, Always so much more to learn in life it seems. What better way than through a poem? Such a sacred beginning and end in the telling of nature's rebirth. -Richard
