Meet Me In Naples

We strolled hand in hand
along Naples cobbled streets
beneath nearly blown- off linen sheets
Hanging from old balconies.

Street musicians played their bagpipes
ciaramellas,mandarins
In this southern bustling city
where the crowd will never sleep.

Blessed by silent moments
in Duomo di San Gennaro
I knelt down on my knees
Prayed for health ,and for serenity
For strangers ,and for loved ones
who shared different beliefs.

At Da Michele pizza parlour
We shared pizza bites and laughter
Savoured different flavours, of pepperoni
King prawns and provolone cheese.
Fresh oregano filled the air with its pungent smell
on that once upon a summer breeze.

At Sunset, far from gothic abbeys we wandered
Through alleys walked, our lips touched and kissed
Next to lit antique street lamps
Our vacant eyes met, these hearts have been blissed.

A romantic getaway to Naples
New memories in making
Close to Michelangelo's masterpiece
Unveiling virtues and sins,without verdict
Creating on life's canvas, our oil -painting.

Sitting at the edge of the city
Facing the mediterranean sea
Its there where I see you
 Arms wrapped around me
Gazing in distance
Watching the last boat
set sails to be free.

Tonight, like many other nights
Its there where I hear you
Soft whisper of a thousand melodies
Tonight, It is there where I'll find you
Oncemore in my dreams.

Two Bodies, Two Hearts and Two Lives

Two bodies, two hearts and two lives

A midnight moon glistens softly
upon the Mediterranean sea
as we count stars in the heavens,
twinkling like opals on this
warm Maltese evening

Our island, a tiny gemstone
in an aqua expanse cradles us
within its silken sands,
caressing our skin, soothing our senses
as a cool breeze wafts

The melodic rhythm of the waves,
symphonic whispered echoes serenade
this secluded beach we have embraced
as our own, creating a love song
in nature’s perfect key

As we compose the lyrics, sensual verses
of stardust ecstasy in harmony with
two bodies, two hearts and two lives,
forever entwined in the passion
of this tropical paradise

I feel the water
above me
below me
all around me
intimate
caressing
accepting
loving me

I go further down
to touch the bottom of the pool
and there
on the two painted dolphins
I push my hands down
and my feet break free from the water
shooting up into the air
my handstand
For a moment
I revel the erectness of my form
My legs above the water
the water trickling down them

slowly
I bring them back down
and burst out of the water
head and chest pushing out
Hair...laden with water
swung back
spraying a trajectory of liquid crystals behind me
I take in the air
I smile
I live
I breath
my arms move back and forth
I dip in again
then swim to the far side of the pool
I hold on to the metal hand guards
Put my legs out on the side of the pool
Knees bent
I push myself below the surface
looking around...
my playground
the water, my home

I'm in my element
I'm free
weightless and happy
the muffled sounds
and dancing lights on the surface
flirt with me
I stay for as long as I can
then I break the surface
Floating on my back
I look at the sky
I feel sublime
chest and tummy tasting the air
I'm there
There
where in my mind
I'm beautiful and divine
sultry mistress of the water
he's touching every part of me
I'm free
I'm free

Jade

I am never as happy as when I'm swimming....the pool lets me be more creative, but I also enjoy swimming in the Mediterranean sea. I've been called a dolphin.... I'm more like another aquatic mammal at present, but even those creatures are graceful and beautiful in the water. Summer is coming....

The apple of my eye is a one for
An Amazon of an all in one
Being sourced from the Almighty’s Blessings
A paradox in discovery by Spiritual vision
Unsearchable among the highs and lows
As more precious than earthly
A glorious heritage with more respect for the reward
You are the Apple of my eye
I can never let you go away
Even when you are far away
From my heart you never go away
When our story will be told
Anthony and Cleopatra shall be kindergarten’s tale
My heart billows of love
Continuously being expressed
My deep affection for you
Resounds over a thousand hills
The more at your being I gaze
The more your fondness I develop
My love for you is mountaineering
Above the mountains resonating
You are my apple of ardor
I have crossed the Rubicon to love
Your tenderness as the gentle breeze
Blowing over the Mediterranean Sea
When I remember we are flesh
As a wisp of smoke
As roses wither in the garden
I must seize the precious moments
Of your exquisite love
Pure and so true
Undefiled so Divine
To carry you in my heart.

Premium Member Just I - All Alone

I swam inside the Mediterranean Sea.
In what would be my Glory Days, off Valencia’s coast,
I dipped my foot in freezing water;
withdrew it; then dipped it in again.
(I’d always had my own will even then,
just didn’t realize how strong it was).

Disappointingly, my one day to enjoy the sea was cold.
I still cannot recall if others from my group
ventured out there with me and stayed for long
although I remember a few of them were shivering
riding on the bus to go back home.
Oh, it was so very long ago!

Nor can I recollect the suit I wore
(I do know I was plump then;
"Gordita” the men called out to me).
The season - was it early spring or still the winter?
And what specific color claimed the sea that day
along my beloved Iberia’s splendid shore?

Of that afternoon, I remember only this:
Aimlessly I let my body float first in one direction,
then another; keeping my eyes always on land,
my body numb, accustomed to the freeze.
No one was around me; I drifted, sometimes nearly straying. . .
just I - all alone -
letting my whole self go. . . for maybe 40 minutes.
It was something I felt that I just had to do
so that years later, standing here today
 (“Gordita” frozen deep inside me)
I can say that I swam in that mighty, ancient sea.

Go For It

Life is a dangerous struggle
Full of inconsistencies, challenges and pains
Life is not fair even to the fair skinned
The dark skinned are not faring better either
In everyone's backyard a little rain must drop
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it.

In life, even the rich also cry
The poor in pains and agonies cries ceaselessly
The middle class have no problems 'cause they never existed
The orphans on the street go bare footed and hungry
Everyone is plagued by this turbulent journey called life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it.

Life is an endless and unpleasant adventure
Ending in one phase and continues in another phase
Beggers beg and no one gives to them
Widows cry and no one hears their voice
Everyone is caught up in this crazy web called life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it

In life, the religious are not the righteous
The righteous looks rough and rugged
Unnoticed because they have no class
For long we have been in this turmoil called life
And it has promised to continue unabated, no end at sight
Whatever happens, set your goals and go for it

The smart acts smartly by running away
They cross the sea, the Mediterranean sea
Unfortunately, you can't run away from life
Run away from it here and you will meet it there
Even though we're here, I know we'll soon be there
Only if we can set our goals and go for it

Life is everywhere, has no friends, has no foes
Life rewards, reproved and reprimands
Everyone is lotted opportunities in life
And it's their responsibility to take them
The faithful pray while the unfaithful prey
Whatever you do, set your goals and go for it

Life has no end, life has no beginning
Life is an omen, the omen never lies
Life keeps everyone busy on their own lane
Though some lanes are fast, some are slow
But ultimately every vehicle gets to its destination
Only if we can just set our goals and go for it

Life cares for no one, Life is hostile
Life is an excruciating and toilsome lot
Imperfect Life preaches perfection
Unfortunately, no one needs perfection
We're all trapped in this vicious cycle called Life
Whatever be your lot, set your goals and go for it

Premium Member Mediterranean Undressing

This rock of the brave
In the Mediterranean Sea
There is a Maltese Maiden
A lure for me

We will meet in it's Capital
Steeped in history
Valletta is it's name
But for tonight it's our chemistry

After a three hour flight
In Malta I land
To the hotel I am taken
Corinthia Marina so grand

I am now booked in
On my balcony I await
Looking over St George's Bay
For my Maltese date

I hear a knock at the door
As I open at ease
A beautiful sight I see
Has my blue eyes in please

A dark haired maiden
With skin so tanned
So beautifully dressed
Like a million grand

On the balcony we sit
With a vintage red wine
My heart is pounding
At her beauty so fine

I lay down my glass
In pursuit of a kiss
She responds like a magnet
Our lips now in bliss

I take her by the hand
My Maltese girl
My heart pounding
In an ever-ending twirl

Into my arms I take her
In kissing embrace
Our hands now in wander
In undressing grace

We fall on the bed
Of silken sheets
Where our adventure begins
As our bodies meet

In carnal crave
We join as one
As we are shadow dancing
In the late evening sun

The depths of our love
As we share our potions
In arched sync
Rhythmic explosions

As we sigh and groan
At the moment we have shared
For tonight on this brave island
Our love has been declared

We awake in the morning
Entwined in each others arms
And our sensuous joys
Loving charms

We spend the day
Holding hands and kissing
With my Maltese Maiden
In many years, we'll be reminiscing

For a Lady, whose heart is as big as the island she stays on " Charmaine Chirop "

Nature's Nemesis arrived.

Hubris' aftermath!

*"Zorbas" is the name given to a cyclone that appeared in
the Mediterranean Sea and has afflicted mainly Greece for a week now, causing considerable damages, including loss of life. Usually, we
do not see Cyclones in this part of the world, but we will see them more often with climate change! Man has to learn to respect
Mother Nature and to avoid Hubris!

Premium Member Goosies

Goosies

Jennifer Lopez gets them a lot
when she listens to singers on American Idol.
Perhaps it happened to me a few times, but I can’t recall
the specific time that a song gave me the goosies.
Those crazy little pimples above which the hairs stand erect
most usually on our arms
occur when people are moved by things:
music, dance, emotions.
Also things that creep us out or give us great fear
can give us the chills or goosebumps.
My mother used to say, “When you get a sudden chill
for no specific reason, it means that someone
just walked over your grave.”
That happened for me just a couple of times.
Maybe my future burial spot is a little bit remote!

As I think and think about it, I can recall at least one time
this strange phenomenon known as goosebumps
caused not just my arms, but nearly my entire body,
to resemble that of a plucked bird!
It was back in ‘74 and I was with a small group of students
visiting the coast of the Mediterranean Sea off Spain’s beautiful Valencia.
It was late winter (or perhaps very early spring).
All my life I wanted to say I had swum in a sea far from America!
Though the temperature was extremely cold for swimming,
I dared myself to venture out into the Mediterraean that day.
As the others in my group dared only to poke their toes into the ice-cold water,
I submerged my entire body. What a shock it was!
Nevertheless, for at least twenty minutes, I lay on my back,
letting my body float and float,
drifting with the tide while making sure to keep close by the shore.

When I noticed the group was wanting to leave, I swam back.
As I sat in the bus with a towel wrapped around me, I shivered uncontrollably
and my skin puckered up as the hairs rose up on both my legs and arms.
I had been foolish that day, but I felt proud to say
I had swum in the Mediterranean Sea.

The First Estate of Paris, France

They Riot.
They revel in frank spotlight,
getting drunk in a boozy blitz.
You can find them wrapped in the lush covers of pure linen on Sunday mornings,
their madness of headaches and chills covering their aching bodies as they skip the early mass.
They’re boys that play the cards of life,
gambling away any sane they have left.
If you’re a witness they’ll slip you a hundred,
and tell you to keep your champagne soaked, honey dripping lips shut.
While they sip
and throw away money,
and write what no man could ever imagine.
their celestial smiles draw you in,
and their crumbling hearts refuse to love.
they count their vices before they go to sleep,
hoping with vile smirks for just one more.
Wicked souls and radiant faces,
That’s what everyone says.
their pockets are full of blooming green trees,
That’s what everyone says.
Glass chalices filled to the brim with molten bronze.
That’s what everyone says.
Ten boys who blush at the sight of glimmering gold,
and shiver at the mere thought of dripping crystals wrapped around their necks in the thousands.
Ten boys who Rip Ruins out of each others throats,
Kissing the face of death with blackberry wine stained teeth and magnolia projected breath.
their once simple minds soak up wretched knowledge like sponges in the mediterranean sea, fathers teaching sons to trip the dance that life plays on realing repeat.
He teaches them to love one lady only, her worth is enough to buy them the world itself.
Their silk pants stretch with inherited stacks of green dye stained paper,
rendering their useless hands guilty as they count them,
slip for slip.
Have they let their hands become rough from labor?
What a silly question one might ask, they’ve never worked a sunset in their lives.
They wish on their four lucky stars that daddy won’t go bankrupt,
His money is the only thing keeping them in their right insane minds.
They scratch at their skulls in pandemonium,
searching for an oasis inside their hellish, bourbon soaked tears.
Yet they find nothing.
Screaming nothing,
ripping at their shredded vocal chords.
Wanting out,
But being trained to only go so far.
Yet they can still catch the kite that flows so far,
They are,
 Empty Nothing.

Premium Member Alexandria

Long before Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians and Greeks,
Before Hammurabi, Sargon and Ramses ruled
The world below their feet;
Before biblical scenes and mythological dreams
Of magical carpet rides,
I knew you back then
Where sea breezes begin
And history was a gleam in your eye...
Alexandria, Alexandria, city of pleasure and pain,
They called you Ricotis as I recall
Earth Mother once called you by name.
Nestled on the Mediterranean Sea of monsters,
Pirates and explorers renowned,
You were not much more than desert floor
Until the conqueror came to town.
Alexander, Alexander, God-man, ruler-thought divine,
Sailed by your winds where the world begins
And knowledge was born and thrived.
In the halls of those palaces and places
He built from his own vision quest,
To rule a world of enlightened beings
Where all people could achieve their best.
Though he never quite saw your white marble walls,
With pillars of gold and blue;
Of the Serapeum filled with scholarly souls
Recording their own world view.
He never knew Pythagoras, philosopher, scientist extraordinaire;
Or the historians Philo and Josephus
And the volumes of memories they shared.
The early Christians, Church Fathers and Saints
Origen, Clement and Mark;
Alexander never knew what he finally did
When he gave you that worldly start.
You’ve seen the Pharos come and go,
Dynasties crumble and fall;
Romans and Greeks swept right off their feet
And Cleopatra’s castle walls.
Pagans, Jews and Christians too
All vying for your love;
As whispering winds of Freemason friends
Tell of Hermes below and above.
While Islam and Mohammed rule
In the shadow of the Sphinx,
Pyramids and temples filled with hieroglyphs
And obelisks that make you
Stop and think…
Alexandria, Alexandria, city of pleasure and pain;
So little I’ve spoken about you today
Compared to all I’ve gained.
Since the first day I once met you
In that dream so way back when…
Alexandria, Alexandria, so glad we’re still
Good friends.

Over and Over

Over and Over

Over and over when I am near an ocean
My mind becomes full of love and devotion
For sailors on ships who served and died
Comrades rest on ocean floor and do abide.

What I want to do each and every day
Is on an ocean beach shore begin to pray
About memories that are there for me
Of dead sailors souls which were set free.

Often, several times and again and again
Will think of the women as well as men
Giving lives so that victory may be met
For freedom on ocean as sun doth set.

On vast expanse of ocean new days begin
And many places on it we have all been
Maybe happy or with things hard to bear
Knowing our omnipotent Lord is there.

Iyase, Some great comments and concepts. My father died in an accident while on board the Aircraft Carrier CVA-11 on night of August 6th, 1956. No one ever knew

what happened. He was missing for 23 days in the Mediterranean Sea and his remains were found on the shore of the Island of Sicily. His body was buried at sea off the Island of Sicily in 200 feet of water. Services for him were conducted aboard the ship. His body

was identified by laundry markings. It was determined that both his neck and hip had been broken. He fell 80 feet to his death. He was last seen at 10 PM that night. A Naval Officer came tour door at home and notified us of his death. Another service was performed at the local Navy chapel located on Norfolk Operation Base (NOB), Virginia.

Just wanted to give you an idea of all that had happened. I was 15 on June 26th, 1956

and had three younger sisters and two younger brothers. I was constantly in search of a father figure all of my life. Being that you took the time to appraise my poem, thought that you deserved this explanation. Many poems are related to specific incidents and happenings.

Best Regards,

Travel Lust

I lust to travel, the world, so grand
As I hold, this ball, in my hands

I slide my fingers along the lines
And dream of the place my index finds

I imagine, myself, near and far
The oceanic floor to the northern star

I enjoy my daily, equator stroll
And sliding from the north to South Pole

The black, red and Mediterranean Sea
North America, the land of the free
Anywhere outside or in between
You'll more than likely find me

On a plane, wrapped in clouds
To New York City with crowds and crowds

Icy North Pacific to west Palm Springs
From whales to shells, falls to Streams

A trip to London for a spot of tea
Then off to Madagascar's magnificent trees

An Asian vacation for authentic fried rice
Then across the rio grand for a little spice

At the end of the day, I embrace a hotel
An Irish castle or humble hay bale

It matters not, where I rest my head
The world's a book, it must be read
