Best Listless Poems
I’m listless as a lazy river
barely lapping at the shore.
I wanted once to find the ocean,
but I don’t care any more.
Would I even make a ripple
if a stone were tossed my way?
Even with the frogs and fishies
I no longer wish to play.
I’ve lost my course and lie inert
inside my riverbed.
Had I legs to help me run,
I think they’d be as lead.
So spiritless and dull am I.
I’m like the kite I see
motionless each breeze-less day,
stuck and hanging from a tree.
Languor sure did overtake me,
for this humid, hot July
sucked out all my energy.
I think perhaps I’ll simply die.

Israeli hostages and Gazans hollowed,
the dark cold cruelty of some in humankind.
Gray circles under frightened eyes,
bones protruding from fading frames.
Listless song of the starving,
grieving God. ~

A cold lion roams, doctrinaire and sterile,
The expanse of Africa offers him no sanctuary, the Saringehti no salvation,
He can only smell the scent of his pride now, his cubs shun him,
Repelled by needless roars, the revolting rants,
Tail tattered, biten by jackels at will,
His nose bit and beaten from battles better avoided,
Soul tethered to a label, only a title, "King of the Jungle" ,
Fleas and insects of all sorts find haven in his muddy mane
once so puffed and wide like a thunderhead trampling over Tanzania,
I hear him in the twilight, lonely, unsated and undesired,
Paranoid about a life that does not seem to love him,
His heart became a desserted Athens, a broken, rigid column slumped on the earth,
He wanders near the Nile, nearsighted and nervous
As an Egyptian boy of ancient lineage stalks him sensitively
Putting the speartip to own temple saying,
I see your ribs, your broken paws, your futility,
I will now deliver your soul unto the cool night,
The spear is launched with a certain bloodlust
piercing behind the shoulder blade, his heart hollers
with the cry of scarred suprise, the lion stumbles and pants
vanity not allowing blame for lack of vigilance,
the boy trots to the spot, kneels in token reverence
telling him, sip the black puddle of your error, as eyes fold ever shallow,
let me feed you these apples of arrogance
so to quiet your grievence, to sooth your ego before final sight,
there is no shame in being slain by a Pharoah King, old lion,
I shall wear your teeth as a timeless trophy of tragedy,
Emblematical of Pride gone on too long,
may the spirit of Herodetous teach this lesson to a new breed -

Epic
transfixed
I stumble down
shifting halls of
my angst my
distress
a cold stale breath
stagnates and permeates
its doom
onto my essence.
beguiled
I entomb myself
in the moment
asphyxiating
flailing
clawing
grasping for
desperately
disintegrating walls.
abdicated
I capitulate to
the lair
that cold cavity
pit of dread
that
pool of tears
where my devotion
thrashes plangently.
interred
in the filth
of want
of need
of putrefying wonder
entombed within
every pore
every inch
of my desolation.
moribund
I turn to stone
my listless gaze
fixated ruefully
on the luminance
the far distant
light
where steadfast
dim hope resides.

Soft rain
Leaves shake
Worry fades
but sleep escapes
thoughts prowl
Dream awake
her face only
my mind quakes
close my eyes
Toss and sigh
What night
reveals
the sun will hide

LISTLESS
Sitting at my faithful desk
Listless
Lifeless work sits incomplete
Listless
Watching icy raindrops fall
Listless
View outside affirming gloom
Listless
Perchance another poem to pen...

The haunt of an hour
has found my depth
In silent awe.
Every corner lost,
Every raiment fallen--
the history of a snowy mulch.
Every eye flowers
in regal pause,
Softened in this groundless
light.
What words could ever render
to another such delight,
Far from every written home
so forgotten?

Bird song perks in the mind
as the gray haze drenches the horizon.
It becomes harder and hard to think.
The monochromatic hours pass
from felt gray, slate gray, to black
And repeat.
The furnace hums.
It is the only thing with heart.
Hope of spring does not rise eternal.
It corrodes with the incessant rainfall.
Raw, wet, green,
will the vivid dreams of lilac
ever stir to overwhelm the muffling
need for down.
Plucked feathers poke through
cotton sheeting, injecting
the cracked skin of age with longing.
Longing …
for the heat of sunlight
and the return of lemon yellow.

For manic, listless, bipolar, mad souls,
the rate of solitude increases fast,
like the second derivative; to last,
velocity accelerates near black holes,
which tug light into singularity's sinkhole.
If isolation never speeds up past,
if desolation, forever steadfast,
must for eternity blast, then controls
despair all? Not so! Space-time's curvature
let's us all firmly stand on Earth's hard ground
of hope: shielded by her vaulted feature
of pure blue sky, and atmosphere all-round
this sun-bathed orb (free from mankind's nature,
this life's dismay, and gamma-ray background)!

Italian Sonnet
Listless on a rainy day,
I had meant to work in the yard;
The best laid plans, well okay;
Now what to do I'm thinking hard.
Well, write a poem, I mean why not!
Like every other bloody day;
So listless here I give it a shot
But really I have little to say.
So watch the rain as I will
Where outside my window is a pail
And sitting here to see it fill,
It feels to me a bit like jail.
Until I see it's now half full,
That pail of mine where I dwell;
Yet, in this rain on a day so dull,
I think half empty I must tell.

apathy grows, dread heavy in the heart
laziness lingers on the spirit’s light
sluggishness gestures - cloudy, dimming hope
idleness, lethargy, dark shadow’s plight

Carol Brown..."Listless"
"the heart forgives...the mind will not forget"
but when the mind forgives,
it is the healing part of Karma, yet?
is this it's tune...of sour grapes regret...
